What Do You Hate About Modern Football?

What do you hate about modern football? The lack of respect throughout the game - fans/clubs/players etc and the cost of games is concerning giving the little in return to those loyal supporters. At Notts it isn't all that bad, there's a good day out and the Meadow Lane Sports Bar is a great place to visit prior to games but it doesn't feel the same as it used to be. I also dislike Sky Sports with a passion, too much money and the control they have now is worrying.

I have to say I think things change for the good, some for the worse. I would love to be able to go back in time and watch a match from each period starting from the 50's but it's not possible, we only have the legacy. I dislike Sky too, I think they ruin football by dictating when games should take place and the football league themselves have so much to answer. I dislike the abuse people shout at players, yet I've gotten used to it and I try to choose where I sit at games wisely. The passion is concerning because with it things can be so much more. I'm not really sure how to answer myself but I hope to see others joining in, it's a good idea! Thanks for sharing upthepies!

One thing I hate with a passion is play acting players, who roll over and over as if they have a terrible injury and as soon as they get a free kick and the opposing player has been booked/sent off they are up like a spring chicken as if nothing has happened.

I also don't like how aggressive fans can be towards each other, the players, the referee, chairman etc. and the awful abuse that can be directed towards them.

Hate play acting and and amount of foreign players in our leagues which as caused the play acting also were the games all about money now.

Yes ,I agree with above comments.Regarding the con artists/divers and exagerated way players go to ground, I have to criticise the referees. Then there is the pushing /shirt pulling etc when a corner or free kick close to goal is taken. It is very difficult for referees to spot everythig but they have their assistants(linesmen)to help them.If refererees took action(fairly)it would soon be greatly reduced. Then again there is too much inconsistency with referees.Leed United in the late 60's and early 70's were very good at conning refs and turnig things to their advantage. It's called gamesmanship-I call it cheating!

Too much play acting. Poor quality of officials outside of the Premier League and Championship. A lot of them not fit enough to keep up with play.

Lately, fans reactions. Especially at Notts. I don't know what some people expect. We are better off than we have been for years. We have one of the best squads that we have had for years. But the minute the ball gets passed back, or sideways, the fans start getting on the players backs. Which is counter productive I wonder how some of them would feel if someone came into their workplace, or place of study, and did the same sort of thing.

I think a lot of peoples expectations this season, including my own, may have been set a little too high. I know its easy to say, we should have, or if only, but we are where we are unfortunately. I am sure it will get sorted one day. Hopefully soon.

See you all at the next game and the one after ........... :D

I think for me its the prices paid for players nowadays is way too high. I know they give up alot of time but still not worth a price as high as alot of those in the higher leagues. All the diving and fouls during games along with the attitudes some of the players have, they are payed to play football not argue and cheat.

I dont think the refs help at sometimes, they obviously can't see everything but they do seem to be biased at times.

Substitutes! I'd love to go back to the mid 60's when just ONE substitute was permitted-and then only for an injured played. This 5 allowed in league games and 7 in certain cup comps is pure farce imo. Causes so much timewasting and time added on. I would like to go back to the days when goalkeeprs had to take a goal kick from the side of the goal box to the side the ball went out. It drives me nuts to see the keeper collect the ball from the ball boy then gently amble over to the opposite end of the goal box. Abolish this theatre of a board going up to indicate the minimum amount of time to be added on. Let's all go back to the old days when this nonsense was non-existent. The ref should simply be allowed to add time on-without informing anyone. Let's revert to stoppage time NOT time added on. Let's go back to calling the assistant referee linesman. Let's go back to having FA Cup replays a couple of days after the original game. Not this stupid 10 day delay. Let's start producing simple programmes like we used to have. Why do today's have to be like holiday brochures? I could go on and on...

You're a man on a mission,Sadlad, but I must admit I agree with what you say, well mostly.I think 2 substitutes should be allowed.I remember the time before substitutes when if a player was injured he would be consigned to the wing(unless the injury was so serious i.e broken bones that he could not possibly continue)where he would hobble up and down the touchline just being of nuisance value.Clubs would only abuse the system if it was to be only used for injuries.

I agree about the goal kicks, leads to time wasting.

I still call a linesman a linesman!(they don't do much to help the ref sometimes)

Not too worried about other comments but see where you're coming from.(did wonder yesterday, Rams v Leics ,where 6 minutes 'stoppage' time came from.

One thing I would like to see change is the footballs in use.I don't mean go back to the old lace ups,but the way the balls swerve around these days and it's not usually due to the skill of players.

Some chants nowadays are quite odd and out of line. I know fans like to chant their teams on and moan at when they aren't doing too well, but moaning and complaining about individual players isn't exactly going to get them to play better.

At Walsall, we do like to poke fun at our West Mids rivals in a variety of chants. Mainly Wolves!
