I recently had a message through facebook from an old friend from 50 years ago!

He contacted me wanting to know if I was the same person he remembered from Junior School which was on London Road near the Notts ground. I confirmed I was that person and we continued a dialogue and exchanged old photos etc.,

We then decided to meet to catch up, bearing in mind I hadn't seen this person for 50 years I was a little apprehensive as I went to the pub but straight away recognised my old friend and I could still see the boy I had known all those years ago in the grown man. We ordered our drinks and started chatting, we covered a range of subjects and found that we have very similar likes and dislikes in music, politics etc., it was all going so well until........................................he announced he was a Fword fan.doh.gif

What a shame he had obviously been led astray at sometime in his youth, he went on to tell me he is going to take his grandchildren to see the "dark side" play, isn't that child abuse? Should I contact social services and tell them what is going to happen to these poor innocent children? rollonfloorlaughing.gif

It's a pity you  lost contact so many years ago, you could have kept him on the straight and narrow and pointed him in the right direction.

I met him at a pub near Alfreton as he lives in Chesterfield and it was half way. I was looking for someone in a Rams shirt in case it was your local.

Which pub was it Tony? I think I must have been in most of the pubs within a 10 mile radius of Alfreton at some time. In our late teens and early twenties my mates and i would often go exploring on Saturday nights, especially in summer. Sadly a lot of those pubs are gone now.

I think it's safe to say he would have covered the WHOLE of the midlands, think if he had became a pub or beer reviewer it might have been far less due to work commitments.:thumbsup::rolleyes::angel:

It was on the main road in Shirland, can't remember the name now, might have been Red Lion.

He certainly does like pubs, a pub is included in most of his trips out   (sorry i'm giving all your secrets away @super_ram )

He does tend to talk alot about going out to the pubs in his early 20s around alfreton.

Nah not really, talk about things in general... we all ramble on in discussions at times but its just as easy to go abit too far off topic.
