Posted September 24, 20168 yr #1 As the wgs survey brought up the choice or having or not having midweek fixtures i just wondered what people thoughts are on these? For me there a staple of what football is all about, especially midweek winter games, you can't feel your feet or hands by the time the game kicks off, shivering you sit there waiting with more than normal expectation of watching your team put on a display that will go down in time as "one of those you needed to be at", maybe its the lights, maybe its the temperature or maybe the half time food and drink that when you take your first mouthfull burns but you persist as you desperatly want the warmth, who knows? For me they epitomise what supporting football is all about
September 24, 20168 yr #2 Have to say I'm not personally in favour of midweek league fixtures. It's decent if you have a home fixture because getting to Meadow Lane is not particularly taxing, but having Hartlepool away on a Tuesday night in January is just horrendous. At least on a weekend you can pile the drinks, get a beer jacket and sleep it off in the evening, but it just doesn't benefit working people to have such fixtures in midweek. Leave the midweek to the cup competitions as a sort of overspill but I think Saturday should be the day devoted to football.
September 24, 20168 yr #3 i dont go to away games but home mid week games is fine. if i did go to games like exeter, hartlepool, portsmouth midweek i would probably say different.
September 25, 20168 yr #4 I love mid week games and if we had someone close like a Luton or Donny as a midweek match it would be perfect! But sadly we always end up with teams like Exeter or Hartlepool away, i think it would be wrong to remove them all together though
September 26, 20168 yr #5 Midweek matches can go for me. I've never been able to attend many, and when I do the crowd is smaller and more lethargic. And they must be an absolute pain for those who always travel away. But I do admit there's something special about walking to the ground and seeing the floodlights already on ... but you can have the same effect on a Friday night too, and that isn't (quite) as inconvenient for travelling fans as most people have Saturday off. Useless fact: in Germany, weeks in which football is played both during midweek and at the weekend are known as "English weeks".
September 29, 20168 yr #6 Depends how your team is doing and the weather.I loved midweek games when the Rams were in the European cup and doing well playing Real Madrid,Benfica etc. Didn't enjoy much on freezing cold midwinter nights and losing on our way down the leagues.(I still went though)
