Graham Taylor RIP

Featured Replies

Indeed, he was a pretty awful England manager, but excellent at club levelΒ especially with Watford. I alway enjoyed listening to him during commentaries. Sad loss.

He did fantastic work at Watford. Still fondly remembered there. Did well at Villa as well. The Sun persecuted him when he became England manager. Some of their stuff was very personal. A nice man by all accounts. R.I.P.Β

I feel Taylor's career is unfairly overshadowed by his failure with England. At Watford he won promotion FIVE times (surely that's a record with one club?), reached the FA Cup final and finished second in the league only to a legendary Liverpool team. That's incredible! Plus two promotions at Villa and one at Lincoln too. That's what I call a CV. And in spite of his success he was one of the most down-to-earth men in football.

I stumbled onto videos about Graham Taylor yesterday on YouTube, I didn't know he was one of the first managers to introduce the fitness side of things and making sure diets was correct. I recall watching a football programme which suggested this was a continental approach to the game, so I found it quite fascinating that Taylor was one of the first to really push it. Another video, I think it was 'Football Focus' said that he used to watch hours of highlights and at the end of each month he would present his findings to the players of Watford.

Once the media target you, I think some forget about how good a manager was with certain clubs.

Rest in Peace Graham Taylor.
