Ok here's a question but please be honest in your answers, I won't judge I'm just curious.

Do you bother with recycling? Do you make sure that cardboard, glass etc., gets put in the right bin or do you just dump it in the nearest bin.

I noticed on a recent camping trip that the owners of the campsite had carefully labelled bins with what should be put in each one, a bin for glass, a bin for paper and cardboard and a bin for general waste etc. Sadly lots of people took no notice whatsoever and put everything in one bin.

Is recycling important to you or do you think its a waste of time?

Yep. Ashfield has had a major push on recycling under the local Labour Ashfield District Council in the past few years. Although slightly unpopular at first, the vast majority now recycle alot more than they used to. We have a smaller general waste bin, two 'green' bins for paper and plastics, a glass blue bin and a garden bin. 

We have a recycle kitchen bin and the normal one in the kitchen at home and all of us, kids included, sue them both correctly. 

When you ignore all the rubbish peddled by the opposition around here, recycling has been a great success and now sits near the top of most recycling charts.

we have bins for garden waste, recycling and general waste. i always make sure to separate things before i bin them and i do go out of my way to make sure nothing ends up in the wrong bin.

Like @liampie I have three bins and I have a bin inside my kitchen that lets me separate what waste goes where.

I do recycle and Nottingham County Council have made it very simple.

Always try to recycle but living in a road with communal bins, gets frustrating when neighbours dont take as much care, like putting the polythene food wrapping in plastic recycling...and used Pizza boxes in cardboard recycling, which in my area is not allowed.

Blue planet has heightened awareness and would welcome the glass returnable bottle for pence, to eliminate the plastic bottles.

Local authorities have differing rules for say UHT milk cartons, orange juice cartons....why? There should be a national recycling standard across the UK

We do we have two bins in our house which I always get wrong but yeah we do if we don’t the bin men don’t empty it if we don’t

Yes I agree @Piethagoram it should be standard across the uk, we travel all over in our campervan and everywhere we go the rules are different as to what you can and can’t recycle, the bins are different colours for different areas adding to the confusion.

Even neighbouring authorities are different @hissingdwarf Says Ashfield glass bins are blue, ours in Broxtowe are red! It’s about time we had some consistency.

Same in my household.

We separate everything but it's annoying when people place rubbish in your bin that is incorrect and the bin men refuse to empty it.

I don’t think our bin men even check the bins so some people round here just chuck anything in.

I generally recycle anything that can be recycled, putting it in the right bin in my garden. If the recycle bin is completly full i will occasionally puf something in the general waste. On holiday we tend to have to put everything in general waste because not many caravan sites actually have recycle bins, just general waste ones and it seems odd after we spend all year separating it.

We were on one campsite this year and we asked about recycling and were told to throw everything in the same skip because they sort through it at the depot, never heard of that before but I wouldn’t like that job, soiled nappies, dog poo bags Ugh!

We used to have those blue plastic carry boxes to put at the end of the drive, but fortunately they’ve been done away with for a slim wheelie bin. Much easier for all involved.

Ours is a choice of a green bag or a red slim bin for glass, we had the bin because of all our empty wine and beer bottles.

I'm always on the road so there's little I can do other than dispose what trash I have wisely.

Over here it's a bit mismatched as to if you recycle or not, I think most people are idle when it comes to doing but the urban family style tends to be more product from what I have seen. Businesses do it a lot though.

We are very proactive with separating waste, it's only the odd time things go in the general waste and usually it's for a perfectly good reason.

Kitchen bin is for general waste.

Side area for plastics and recyclables.

Garden waste when we cut the grass or do other gardening.

My family recycles waste and I do help to make sure that what is thrown away goes into the right bin.

I thought most people did this now?
