Ivory Coast, Cameroon and Nigeria booked their place in Brazil.

Portugal hold a slender 1-0 nil lead. The second leg in Stockholm should be fascinating.

Ukraine go to Paris with a 2-0 lead. The French didn't like Ukraine's robust approach. The French surrendering.....where have I heard that before!

Croatia head back to Zagreb with a 0-0 draw. Iceland were down to 10 men for 40 mins but the Croats didn't take advantage.

Greece go to Bucharest with a 3-1 lead.

The France score surprised me, I felt they'd either draw or thrash Ukraine. I wouldn't miss France in the World Cup though, they've been pretty poor previous years and I'd rather see an unknown side do well.

I have big hopes for Nigeria.

Nigeria are unpredictable. I watched them in the Confederations Cup and I wasn't that impressed. They do have some talented players though. They will be difficult group opponents.

I felt they did well against Italy yesterday, unlucky that they couldn't hold out to their powerhouses. Going 2-1 up was a great achievement for them, it shows that they're able to compete and I know what you mean. Being unpredictable isn't always a bad thing, it leads to surprises sometimes. :)

Ghana and Algeria book their place in Brazil.

Portugal are through after a fantastic win in Sweden. Ronaldo with a hat trick. 4-2 on agg.

Croatia beat Iceland to qualify. They managed to win 2-0 despite being down to 10 men from the 38th min onwards.

Greece strolled through by beating Romania.

France completed a comeback that was never done before. They overturned a 2-0 first leg deficit and won 3-0 in Paris.

Mexico and Uruguay will complete the 32 today, unless there are miracle comebacks in both games.

The countries have been divided into 4 pots. England are in pot 4. IMO, the best group for them is:

Switzerland

Algeria

Costa Rica

The worst would be:

Brazil

Chile

USA

USA? I wouldn't see them as a threat personally. I know they have some very decent players, along with some who'd be able to make top teams but I wouldn't be scared of them if I were Hodgson or even an England player. Chile on the other hand okay, though a full strength side should be capable of beating them. Brazil would be the only team we would have to be 'really' concerned about imo.

Chile are as good as at home so it would be best to avoid them IMO. The US would be well motivated playing against England. The same goes for Australia.

England should be in the last 16 and barring a disaster, I think they will be.

Thanks for the update Dripsey.I will comment further after the draw has been made.

Uruguay, Italy & Costa Rica for England. Sorry to bring everyone down but I can't see us getting past the group stages!!

Lowest expectation for donkeys years, a manager taking knocks in the press, a difficult group, a squad mixed with youngsters and old heads. Italia 90 anyone?

Don't see what difference a tough group makes really. We had the easiest draw possible in 2010 and were awful!

This isn't on folks!

We can make it past with 4 points but I have faith we could achieve more ;)

We have to play the better teams at some stage of the competition. Both England and Italy will want to avoid defeat in their opening game as will Chile and Uruguay. The second set of games should be interesting.

This group is tough, playing Italy in that humidity straight off is going to sap the stamina. Even coming back to Sao Paulo for Uruguay is very difficult atmosphere for us. I cannot see us getting anything from those two games, sadly.

Roy will be slaughtered, when quite frankly, the results would be the same no matter who was in charge.

Am I alone, in thinking that, Platini must have some how fixed it so the Frogs have a p**s easy group?

It's always fun to fill out the wall chart before the tournament and see how you did when it ends. Maybe we can have a prediction competition for the WC?

I'm actually hoping to hold something along this line, perhaps making it a bit more fun by backing a team for £1. I'm speaking to a dev friend about this possibility, although there's always the alternative of it being friendly.

Would anyone contribute £1 for a team or a few teams depending on the interest?

32 teams - might end up 2-3 each (of course I wouldn't take part).

can I put a quid on a yellow card in the first half of the first game?

FIFA run a prediction competition. A bit of fun. Nothing too serious.

A bit of fun could be on the cards, I thought it might be interesting and something that might help us if we made cash prizes. I do this with my family for the Grand National and other things, done it at work a few times.

Either way, I am sure it would help.

Go ahead and laugh all you want. I think we have more of a chance to move through to the latter stages, i honestly believe the youths of today have been quite exciting.

Like i said 'the latter stages' . Then in perhaps 4 years ....who knows.
