Maurice Ross..... GONE.... No explanation....... My thought is the wrong 1 as gone!!!!!

Posted

Usually you expect an anodyne statement thanking him for his efforts etc. Not this time. Here it is. I wonder what's gone off?

"Assistant head coach Maurice Ross has this afternoon left the club with immediate effect.

We will be making no further comment."

I noticed that as well. It would normally end with "We thank Mo for all his hard work and wish him well for the future". Instead, I think saying "We will be making no further comment" only pours fuel onto the social media fire.

Ah it wouldn't be a Notts County season without complete meltdown drama.

I'm disappointed because I liked the things Maurice was saying - character, passion, energy.... exactly what is needed in the NL and something the current squad isn't capable of.

I'm not going to speculate what was said, obviously it was serious.

Thanks for sharing that @Piethagoram. From the timing and the statement it was fairly clear that it was a training ground incident of some kind.

It won't make the manager's job any easier. He's under pressure, we can't buy a win and now his assistant has departed under a cloud.

@DangerousSausage It may have been a comment made to a player during Saturday's game... a comment so serious that it leads to a sacking

Yep, I think it was obviously something said at Altrincham rather than anything that's happened since.  I wouldn't want to speculate on here, but I think I can guess the nature of the comment and the reason for departure.

Just so disappointed. He seemed genuinely passionate I thought he made some good points in that interview from Friday (that'll be swiftly removed now I assume).

Clearly whatever he said was completely out of order and he gave the club little option but to sack him. It'll be interesting hear IB's reaction, if we ever get it.

Some bus journey home that must have been...

Bunch of amateur clowns employed in place of a respected professional !! We deserve all we get!! Taxi for Burchnall!!

its about time the club joined in with some of the fans. 🙃😂

notts wont sack burchnall just yet, i suspect this is to try to give him some better experience. watch the person who replaces ross have more experience and could probably manage the club itself.

i would go as far as suggesting when the door is shown to burchnall, notts might have a ready made replacement.

no idea about the rumours of doyle but its laughable.

The picture of Roberts exiting the field after his recent issue, Moss looked like he was quite hands on with the player management/mentoring, whereas Burchnall looked like he was clueless and ****ing himself.

That said, both look quite out of their depth.

The thing about Ian Burchnall for me, is he talks football but doesn't apply anything. He's quite emotionless, seems quite clueless and just not someone ready for this type of appointment. The pressure is really on to achieve and do better, which so far he's failing to do.

I always hope for the best, but I don't see him improving without an experience assistant manager.

@liampie has hit my thoughts, I can easily see someone good enough to manage us coming in as the assistant and taking over when the times right. I would feel underwhelmed if someone of a less standard comes in because it's clear for Burchnall to improve he needs more help. Moss I don't think could offer that, I've watched videos of him training with the players, I wasn't impressed.

The only deeming quality for me is his hands on approach to man managing the players.

Complete nonsense.

Why? What's he done?

I'm surprised you haven't called for it, since you did a few times with Ardley. Now, that's nonsense Ben.

You're right, that is nonsense, because it's not true.

You might be able to grab an out of context quote typed out in the heat of the moment after a game, but for the most part I repeated the same thing; Ardley to be judged at the end of the season based on promotion or not.

Don't get me wrong - I don't think Ardley would have achieved it, nor do I think Burchnall will achieve it (at least this season) and it is for exactly the same reason: the squad isn't up to it. Burchnall wouldn't have been my choice but it's an interesting appointment nonetheless. He's had to go through the same things Arldey went through to probably come to similar conclusions; there are serious deficiencies within this squad.  However, I won't judge a manager by drawing wild conclusions based on one picture.

Valid point, amongst some nonsensical assumptions.

I don't think the clubs in any sort of chaos, I think people just aren't giving their all for whatever reason. Whatever the former assistant head coach said, it must be bad but I think the matter needs to remain private.

The clubs dismissed him, he's acknowledged it was wrong.

Move on.

I like to read a variety of views. There's no need to fall out! ;)

I'm disappointed, I was hoping IB and MR would form a good partnership, maybe with a good cop / bad cop type dynamic behind the scenes, and a relatively inexperienced manager definitely needs someone more experienced he can trust to support him. Most of the time, fans have little idea how well an assistant really does this, or how he gets on with the players. That said, the fact that MR said something so indefensible to a player that he was sacked isn't exactly an endorsement of his self-control.

The demeanour of coaching staff is always dwelled on when we're not doing well and I've never quite understood why. Neal Ardley had the look of someone who thought it was just wind, but it turned out to be something more. But who'd have cared if we'd won at Wembley? The jury is still very much out on IB, the squad he's been left with has big gaps, but he has to show he can get the best out of it.

@DangerousSausage I've not taken anything personal, but I have found some comments hypocritical.

many have ranted about us having the best squad and depth, its only until we struggled and nobody knows how much covid impacted this. not forgetting other things outside of a managers control. still i agree there are gaps but we still have a good squad.

It turns out, comments directed by Ross to Enzio about his movement and a false passport was the reason he resigned. It's unclear if Notts sacked him or if he resigned, I'd assume he resigned as this is what he says and allegedly it was instantly after the comments.

Right decision and totally unacceptable.

But was he totally incorrect with his observations.... Enzio has been struggling with his form for quite some time... Guessing he be gone at the end of the season!!???
