The Lace Market in old photos

Recommended Posts

I worked in the lace market from 1963 at Simon,May & co Ltd on Weekday Cross and met @GrannyPie  who worked in a different department there. Some great memories there of the wonderful old buildings and not just the pubs.

I wished Nottingham continued to produce high quality lace, as the city was famous for it and, as things have shown, people would pay for the quality if it was marketed right. I still like net curtains in my windows - the quality is nowhere near as good as ours was. I know there are less purposes these days, yet wedding dresses, fine dinning etc - all are areas that could've supported a single company leading Nottingham's lace production.

Much like how Sheffield are proud to prove their steelworks, with one company fighting to keep itself alive.
