Alex Kirk .....RCB?
I know someone might say that they hate seeing videos as it hypes up the potential of a player. Yet, Alex Kirk does look like he has a good level of awareness to cut out dangerous attacks. It's a good insight into his ability, getting that on a consistent basis away from where he's familiar can always be a challenge. I have heard nothing but praise for his performance against Alfreton. We have a few more friendlies where we should be able to judge him a little further, yet I can see the potential.

Will Randall departs
When he signed I thought we had a promising signing, but he never fitted in, and I don't think he really pushed himself enough. As I said before, he always seemed to be isolated and stuck up. Had he integrated himself better, he might have been able to produce better performances because when he did get chances those games mostly passed him by. I don't wish to be harsh on him, but it was often like going down to 10 men. There's a player in there, I just don't believe he wants to work for it. He's probably better suited to teams where he's one of the better players in the squad and therefore doesn't require the effort to break into a team like ours. He really should have featured more as a player for us, but it wasn't to be. I'm glad he's agreed a release with Notts, I didn't see anyone coming in for him. Now, I imagine a club will pick him up because his wages will be more negotiable.

Was it a Penalty?
If it had happened outside the box, a free kick would have been given. This would have been a much easier decision, as it is incredibly harsh to give a penalty, but it's unlike England to get the benefit of decisions which helps. I believe that the referee's performance was acceptable overall, although there were instances where he failed to issue cards to several Netherlands players who had made reckless and dirty challenges. At the time, I said it was a foul on Harry Kane even if he had got the shot away. I don't know why the referee didn't give an indirect free kick; the rules and decisions these days seem to be stricter. An indirect free kick would have been fairer. I do believe it was a foul, I don't believe the player deserved a yellow card. He was going for the ball, the timing was just late but again, if this happened outside the box I believe the officials would have flagged instantly. VAR made a decision which benefitted us, however, in the grand scheme of things I believe we would have been fine without it. England performed a lot better, chances were falling and those who think the Netherlands were unlucky. That might be the case, but really they didn't do enough. Their goal was an incredible strike which Pickford unfortunately couldn't get more of his hand onto - even if he did I doubt it would have made much difference. It was a good game, but the Netherlands didn't really trouble us on goal. Yes, there were several exhilarating moments with shots on goal and near misses. England hit the post twice, had a goal disallowed and forced some good saves from the Netherlands keeper.

Where are they now : Kevin Wilson
I have a very bad memory, as I watched the video @super_ram recommended and I do now recall Kevin Wilson. It sounds like Neil Warnock didn't want him at the club going off the interview. Warnock originally wasn't my cup of tea either, but he grew on me over time. Kevin Wilson, from my memory, wasn't a player afraid to get stuck in or take the brunt of challenges. I really needed to see a picture of him, which the tash he had at the time instantly reminded me.

Sorba Thomas, Huddersfield Town to Nantes?
It is a very big move, if he puts his all into it - it could change his life for the better. The French league is very different from the English, but from Non-League to this sort of thing. Well it's a dream move for any aspiring player.

Where are they now : Kevin Wilson
I read it as "Kelvin Wilson". ???? I don't recall Kevin, I looked at Wiki and I should. He was around when I first went to watch Notts, maybe it's because I was young but from the players I remember from the 90-94 squads I could probably name 90% of the players. Was he a regular starter in 94? Good luck to him with the move.

Footballers with holey socks
It's all the rage, Jake was telling me about it - supposedly it reduces injuries, but you are not supposed to do it (he says). I used to get told by my old duty head of year (managed my school's team) that socks help avoid injuries. I know if I were to ever knock a muscle or something like that, I'd rather it is tight and supported. God knows if it's just an excuse or an actual thing.

Who Will Take Penalties For Notts?
Provided we don't give it to David McGoldrick, I will be happy. I'm not trying to be negative towards McGoldrick, it's just of my view that someone else would be better. He's somewhat predictable, so I don't think he would make a good choice. Cedwyn Scott has taken them before and done well. Jodi Jones could be a good option, then we have Jata who could smash them into the back of the net. Yet, it wouldn't surprise me if Dan Crowley doesn't step up to take them.

Pre Alfreton: Stuart Maynard Interview
It's a good interview. I got the impression he wasn't supposed to mention 'niggles' because he goes on to explain more that seemed unnatural. I think this is possibly down to further negativity from those who can't see we have to sell players in order to build further. When the Reedtz came in they said this would be our business model, over time we have moved away from it and the 'money ball' term looked like it wouldn't be needed. However, it really is for a club of our size. Brentford have done wonders reinvesting in their transfers, it's what we need to be like. Yet, back to Stuart Maynard, naturally he would need to address the Macaulay Langstaff departure, I feel he shares our disappointment because I bet Maynard knew he could rely on Langstaff for goals. We have other players who will thrive in the striker role, given the minutes and time.

Matt Palmer as Captain, A Good Move by Notts?
It's a sensible decision. I see some fans on social media think we should have given it to someone like Jacob Bedeau or Matty Platt. I don't think we should consider them as vice captains yet, allow them to focus on their role in the squad before giving them any sort of leadership role. Any player would prove their worth in one of these roles when it becomes vacant, but I do believe Matt Palmer is a good choice. As I have said in other discussions, he does communicate with the players during games. He's not silent, but he doesn't lose his head. He's focused and articulate about what he does; this should transfer over to his captaincy role. I don't think the arm band will make him any less of a reliable midfielder, he's the type of player who might get overlooked, but I feel he will show he's no shadow.

Macca gone
I felt extremely disappointed when we allowed Kyle Wooton to run down his contract; I believe we should have got a fee for him. He found what works at Notts, before that I am not quite sure if he would be the same player as he is now. I am pretty sure he would be a good player, but his eye for goal really came from having joined us. We knew he was going to leave, but this makes me less disappointed about Macaulay Langstaff. Langstaff has worked hard for us, putting in impressive feats and really shinning in the process. He deserves the chance to play in the Championship, at first I thought Millwall would be a bit of an odd fit but having done a bit of research, I think their fans will make him feel welcome. That will make a difference, so I hope he does well for them. I feel far happier knowing we got a fee, then to lose out completely.

Who Will Get The Notts Number 9 Shirt?
Unless we are looking to bring someone else in, I would give it to Cedwyn Scott. The club might have a striker line-up and with the squad numbers yet to be announced, we could see some changes.

Faroe Islands
A few years back, I asked @cheeky~k8 if we could try to have a holiday/family break away at one of the island parts of the United Kingdom. It just seems a different type of break, more relaxing and less like you have to be aware of the time just to make the most of it. The Faroe Islands looks amazing, it ticks the boxes as somewhere I would love to visit one day.

Where are they now : Andy Hughes
I hope Steve Cooper does well at Leicester City, or it could be a bit of a merry-go-round with the staff that are being appointed. I hope Andy Hughes can establish himself and demonstrate his value to the coaching team. I like Leicester, I have a soft spot towards them after being present and interviewing/talking to their fans as part of PON's old sister site Football Manics.
-
Where are they now : Richard Brindley
I think he's far better than Eastleigh, but I am pleased he's made a move and found a new club. It's a good signing for them, that I believe, but I think Richard Brindley could be playing League Two football at right-back, and I just don't see them being a strong competition to get out of the National League.

Match Discussion: PSF - The Reds (A)
I had planned to go, but I still don't feel 100%. I'd rather sit back and see what fans have to say about the friendly. Alfreton makes for a good friendly game. They are a physical side, but one we should see plenty of the ball against. It'll be interesting to see if Cedwyn Scott plays as a striker. Stuart Maynard has mentioned in his pre-match interview that the game will be two mixed teams, which we are used to, but it sounds like some of the youngsters will be getting more game time. Which would allow those with slight niggles more time to recover.

Matt Palmer for Club Captain? ...edit (Now confirmed)
Matt Palmer isn't as quiet as some fans think: he's always communicating with those around him and suggesting runs to them when he has the ball. He's the obvious choice, there are other influencial players but we need someone who can remain calm, Palmer is ideal for that reason.

Alex Kirk .....RCB?
He may be a trialist since we haven't heard of any news of his arrival, which will give fans a glimpse into considering potential signings - if there are any more trialists we'll have to see. I wouldn't mind a signing of this nature, as he could be one for the future and happy to be part of a squad where he rotates/is backup. It obviously all depends on how things work out.

If Macaulay Langstaff leaves
I think a lot of fans are just disappointed and may also have worries that we won't have a 20+ a season goalscorer. When they both signed, I spoke to @ARLukomski, and he told me that he was more excited about the arrival of Cedwyn Scott. Scott is relentless with pressuring the opposition and often wins the ball back from doing this, he's a good finisher who I feel would do well in the striker role. I am seeing why ARLukomski felt this way, Macaulay Langstaff is a great striker but we have something a bit different, that should work out well. Give Scott the time to shine.

End of an Era: Macaulay Langstaff's Unforgettable Journey at Notts County
It feels like the end of an era with the departure of Macaulay Langstaff. When he arrived, many fans were unsure of what to expect - myself included. Bringing in two players from Gateshead who had scored over 40 goals between them, it seemed like a dream come true. Eagerly awaiting a glimpse of the new duo, I remember feeling impressed by them in the friendly against Alfreton Town. Who would have known that Langstaff would go on to score over 42 goals, grabbing headlines alongside Erling Haaland and winning the hearts of Notts fans in the process? While we never truly forged the partnership between him and Scott, whenever the two did play together, you could see they had a perfectly good understanding of each other. Their first season with us in the National League played a significant part in Notts' bid to return to the Football League. Among all the league goals he scored, none was more important than the calm penalty he converted in front of thousands of fans at Wembley Stadium. The National League 2022-23 season is one I will remember until my final breath. The squad excelled and provided us fans with memories worth cherishing. Before the takeover brought the Reedtz brothers to our club, I thought the National League would have a severely negative impact on us. However, I couldn't have been more mistaken. In such a short time, it's amazing to see just how different the club feels and how match days at Meadow Lane now brim with pride within our fan base. Our return to the Football League was one hell of a rollercoaster. Going top of the league was a surreal moment, and while we couldn't maintain that position, it wasn't the worst season Notts could have had. In the early part, we genuinely looked like a team going places. It took Macaulay Langstaff some time to get going, but his goal away to Doncaster Rovers was one of the loudest eruptions of cheers I've heard for a while. Everything within the squad seemed promising. With Jodi Jones able to produce magic and Aaron Nemane with his direct trickery, the squad was always going to provide Langstaff with enough chances to continue his success. I was delighted when Langstaff was named the club's captain ahead of the 2024-25 League Two season, although I felt sorry for Kyle Cameron as I believe he led the club with pride during his captaincy. It was a positive step forward, giving such a fan favourite the captaincy - signalling the club's desire to hold onto him. While I am disappointed not to see Langstaff lead Notts out regularly, and saddened by his departure to Millwall, I am left with immense thankfulness and debt to one of the nicest players you could ever meet. Players like Langstaff are irreplaceable, but we trust that the club's recruitment will identify someone who can contribute effectively. If the transfer fee helps Notts return to League One, I will be more than content, even though I wish we could have secured another promotion with Macca leading our front line. I am encouraged by the fact we didn't lose out on a fee entirely. Millwall have secured a very good striker, and at 27-years-old, he deserves a chance in the second division of English football. During his short time at Notts, have we ever had someone who so perfectly embodied the striker we've always wanted? Langstaff will leave a legacy as a real goal machine, but on the other side of the coin, he leaves behind a genuine opportunity for his best friend, Cedwyn Scott, to pick up where he left off. I don't take things for granted at Notts. Many fans have shared this sentiment with me, and I trust that the club has considered the impact of Langstaff's departure. We are building a good squad, founded on the best talent the club has seen in years. Let's set aside the disappointment and focus on our bid for promotion to League One. Balancing Excitement and Disappointment
The press and media have a way of reporting things and in some cases, they load their articles with dynamite knowing at some point it will explode. Notts are fortunate that with time, most people will overcome all this luck. It would have always been a disappointment to see Macaulay Langstaff move on, but we all knew one day it would happen. What we didn't expect was the club to appoint him as captain, then leave him void of the marketing with the kid/training wear. Combined with all the messages and content put out, it does seem likely that they knew something would happen. If it was a case of hoping they could retain him or just a mishap between communication. I fully understand why fans are more downhearted, it's like having your hopes and feelings played with. Personally, I am thinking past all this. However, I have shared my thoughts above because it is an important subject. My focus is on giving my fullest support to the players who are here, whilst hoping that Langstaff does well for Millwall. I really hope he goes on to prove himself. We'll sign more players, some of them will be favourites with the fans. I hope Cedwyn Scott receives the opportunity to prove himself as our main striker.

Kyle Cameron. Should he have stayed?
I understand his decision to move, I'm not all that disappointed. I had made comments that I felt he would be moving on after the captaincy change. I am saddened to be right. Kyle Cameron has been a good player for us. He featured heavily in the team which gained us promotion. His leadership skills extended beyond the pitch, by having all the players backs and giving them someone who they could communicate with when needed. I personally believe some fans who can't behave have played a part in unsettling him. He's a nice guy and never deserved much of the abuse I personally witnessed last season. He is a player we can replace, but his personality and passion might be harder than his ability on the pitch.

Mahovo joins Norwich
It's harsh to write this, but I never rated him. He always looked uncomfortable when coping with having the ball, the times his passing sounded like someone blasting a ball - he just seemed underwhelming. I always hoped he would improve, as I am passionate about seeing youngsters do well. I think he showed signs of improving but his move, I never saw coming. It makes you wonder what Norwich sees in him, which we didn't. I do feel somewhat disappointed that bigger clubs see our youngsters in a better light, whereas we're afraid to play them. Some might disagree with me, but the only way you can improve and become ready for the first-team is to firstly gain match minutes and experience. Loaning young players is only a small part of this, for them to reach their potential they have to be in your own squad and around the first team more.
-
Pre season friendly
He might very well be there, it's if he plays that is the question. Usually when you have a medical, the announcement of a player signing follows. It's very quiet, so I don't know what to make of it all. It does seem likely that he might be moving on but until we have concrete proof, we just have to wait for it to be announced or for things to return to normal.

Lewis Hamilton
I personally don't like Lewis Hamilton, I once did, but his complaining of how difficult he had things made it harder to support him. I am pleased to see him win, as it's something the UK can and should be proud of, but Hamilton as a person makes me disappointed. We have some great drivers coming through, which is also a nice thing to see.
