  1. Yes I think promoting Palmer to the role of captain seems the sensible choice. There's probably only a couple of players for vice-captain I can see Didzy taking the role although I think he'll set the standards and be a leader regardless. Maybe giving it to one of the new boys after pre-season would be an option?
  2. I know the club spoke about finding a USP for our academy as we have to compete with the likes of Derby, Leicester and Forest, but producing players for other teams seems a tad counter-productive! Again, I don't think I've ever seen him play so I can't comment but I know the club had high hopes for him. Hopefully not a case of one that got away but I wish him all the best. Curtis Thompson was the last academy player to actually progress and play over 50 games for us and that was over 10 years ago now. I know it's not easy, as we get raided by the big boys whenever we produce anyone of potential stand out quality, but we do need to see some players progress soon otherwise it's a waste of time and money...
  3. I find it weird no other media outlet picked up on the move, "football insider" that did actually get it right posts tons of stuff about potential moves and not all of it is accurate. Anyway, good luck to him, genuinely deserves a chance to play at a higher level and when a club comes calling that can likely triple your wages you'd be daft to turn it down. He only scored 71 goals in 97 games for us, his replacement will get 80 in 97 won't he...
  4. I agree with @KB1862 I think because we have Jatta and Scott (I'll even throw in Morias cos I like him!) we're in a relatively good place in terms of strikers even if Macca was to move. That's not to say it wouldn't be a massive loss because it would be. I've always said I was quietly confident about him staying and giving him the captaincy just confirmed that to me, I don't know whether to believe the rumours but part of me thinks something is going on with Millwall... It might seem it and it's not always an easy task to find replacements but so far the recruitment team have done a pretty good job whenever we've lost one of our key players. You could say Wootton was replacement was Langstaff, Reeves was replaced by Palmer, Roberts by Jones and Rodrigues by Crowley... So no-one is irreplaceable but I'll still be gutted if he does move.
  5. I don’t think it was about him not being good enough, although some fans might say he wasn’t. He made it known that he wanted to leave after the changes to the captaincy. Maybe the board and coaches could’ve sat down with Kyle and cleared the air so to speak to get him back on board, but then again maybe they saw his reaction as someone who wasn’t committed to the team next season and agreed moving him on was for the best. I was happy enough with him as part of our squad for next season, he was desperately crying out for some competition in his position and he was going to get that next season. It’s a shame but given his statement I feel like Notts did the right thing. If he doesn’t want to be here it’s for the best he’s playing elsewhere. Oh and Derek Adams will want a word with you about Scottish Football being a better standard, this was his post-match interview last season???????? https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/67667758
  6. No idea how they’ve been able to report a fee, I can’t imagine anyone official has actually told this guy. Zero chance it’s come from Notts and even from Millwall, that would just be incredibly unprofessional. Got to be guess work surely!? I hope the whole potential transfer isn’t true and no-one else is reporting anything yet, so that gives me a bit more hope. Pete O’Rouke has posted a few things now, so if he is well wrong people will start to pay less attention to what he posts. I did see in the article it said; “Notts County had been keen to keep Langstaff at the club, but they have been under pressure to sell him for a while as his performances have gained many admirers”. We know we're under no pressure to sell so that’s just a load of rubbish.
  7. It's spot the trialist time again! ???? I'm intrigued to see if we've had a few training with us since the team started back, I'm sure they'll be one or two. Not sure the game itself will be the most enthralling given it's the first game back. No-one will really be playing at 100%, and I think it'll be more geared to trying a few things out too so it could potentially be quite a low-scoring. As long as their are no injuries in these early friendlies, especially concerning Scott and Palmer it'll have been a success!
  8. I didn't think there was much between Spain and Germany either. Spain looked really dangerous going forward with the pace and skill of Williams, Yamal and Olmo. But the sitting back and taking off all their attackers at the end of the game cost them, that German goal felt inevitable towards the end. I thought they'd go on and win it after that, so credit to Spain for battling back and getting that late winner in extra-time. Portugal v France has not been as entertaining that's for sure, feels like I’m just watching patterns of play with a defensive mentality from both teams. This game needs a spark… And I can't see either Mbappe or Ronaldo providing it!
  9. I agree with @ARLukomski I don’t think Cameron was a nailed-on starter next season so I can understand why he wouldn’t be the captain going forward. Macca and Palmer when fit are guaranteed starters. But I’m surprised by his reaction to be honest, I’m not aware of how exactly the change was made, but I’m going to assume it was done as professionally as possible. So there are two paths you can take after; moan and be bitter or see it as a challenge a kind of “I’ll show you’ve made a mistake here gaffer”. You don't need to wear an armband to still be vocal and lead on the pitch anyway – Jim O’Brien and John Bostock being the most recent example of this. He’s picked the easy option in my opinion. We need everyone to be on the same side and if he’s not 100% committed it’s best he’s moved on. We could’ve already seen his last appearance as his contract is up at the end of the season. Shame it’s come to this, but hey-ho that’s football I guess.
  10. It’s very hard balance, I think everyone wants to see more academy players in the first team but I don’t think fans would want it at the expense of a competitive team. This is where you have to trust the coaches who see these players every day, if they feel they are ready then they have to be brave and give them a chance. I don’t think Tiernan was the answer, right now, to our goal keeping issues. He was also injured a bit last season and in his short spell with Rochdale it’s hard to find many comments about his time there. But if their fans had desperately wanted him to go back, we would have known about it. He’s still young though and needs the game time, maybe another season out on loan just didn’t enthuse him - we can’t send him out on loan forever! It’s a shame, I hope he does well at Gateshead, he could well return one day in the future…
  11. Another potential outgoing? This time it's Kyle Cameron heading north of the border... https://www.thecourier.co.uk/fp/sport/football/st-johnstone/5031118/kyle-cameron-st-johnstone-notts-county/
  12. Clubs were always going to be want to sign Macca, but actually being able to do it is another thing. We are in a very strong position and clubs that seriously want him will have to pay a high price. I don't think the figure is right either, they'll only be a handful of people at Millwall with this sort of info so it's incredibly unlikely a random twitter account has access to it!
  13. I don’t think the scheme is a bad thing as it does at least offer fans who go regularly a chance to save a bit, I agree it’s pretty pointless for the casual fans though not only will they lose money but these are ones who’ll take more a financial hit now. It could potentially deter last minute purchases, I guess the attendances over the season will show us if it's been a success or not. I get that the club can justify the price hike, by saying it brings us in-line with the other clubs. But just because everyone does something, it doesn’t mean it’s always right… We could’ve gone the other way and been a tad cheaper. Create a big marketing campaign about Notts being one of the cheapest places to watch league football. It would’ve been an easy sell, you can just brag and even have a little dig at Forest, especially given what’s going on with their prices hikes. It’s mad they have to pay £99 for a membership to get guaranteed access for a home ticket and you don’t even get a discount on that!
  14. We've been surprisingly quiet in terms of posting bits and pieces about the players returning for pre-season... Last season we had lots of videos and pics but it's been very quiet so far this time round. Anyway I noticed a pic from the club website and couldn't quite tell who this was... Is this someone new? It’s not Alex Bass, it’s not Nick Tsaroulla and I don’t think it’s Matty Platt. The last person with the No.12 squad number was Tiernan, but I don’t think it’s him either… Am I wrong though? He looks familiar so have I missed someone completely obvious?
  15. He was great for us in those early seasons in the National League, but once we gradually transitioned to a back 3 I don’t think playing as the RCB played to his strengths. Especially the way we play now and how high our wingbacks play you have to do the job of a full back at times too, it’s not easy. Hopefully he’ll have another club lined up and will be joining them soon, I’ll be interested to see where he goes.
  16. Yes, I too have cleared my schedule for Sunday evening and planned to do a veggie curry in the slow cooker so I can just watch the England game - hopefully I won't regret it, I think we'll get through but I'm not sure it'll be convincing! A pretty quiet weekend for me though, I'm meeting a friend for lunch on Saturday and then if the weather is good I'll get out in the garden and tidy up a few bits and pieces. I'm growing some chillies and peppers this year, they've done quite well up until now but in the last few days they've looked a bit drab and some of the leaves are falling off so I'll be investigating that ????
  17. Just kind of following on from this, it’s funny when I hear a few opinions about Macca and they almost down play how good he is because he scores so many from close range and because we create good chances. I guess it generates a sort of illusion that anyone could do what he does. But he’s always in the right place, his ability to create half a yard and anticipate where the ball will land is no fluke. He’s just got it, it’s natural for him. We’ve had countless strikers over the years who you could spend ages and ages coaching and they still wouldn’t get the goals Macca can. I've seen a few more stories today, one saying Macca is "expected to leave before the window closes". Maybe he will but I wouldn't be as confident as some of these journalists are. No mention of Macca being asked of course, in the last actual interview with him he said how proud he was to be named captain and how he's looking forward to leading the team next season...
  18. Minority spoil it for the majority, but sadly that’s the case for everything these days. I don’t think anyone would dispute that a small number of the fans from all nations who have gone are d’heads who will cause trouble and get into fights but the majority will just be there to support their team. I guess writing a piece about 90% of the fans just going to watch the football and behaving is what you’d expect so it's kind of pointless to do. But I get that it would be nice for these papers to report the good things about the fan experience too.
  19. I don’t think we can really judge Richardson from his time with us! One game just isn’t enough to get a fair reflection of his ability. I don’t think we’ve signed any of the players we’ve been linked with so far, but if you throw enough names out there someone will get one right at some point! I can’t say I’ve seen much of him but he’s featured regularly for Gateshead and the fact he's linked with a host of clubs higher up is reassuring (assuming a few are true). But then all our defenders struggled with the step up from the NL, this would be my concern with Richardson too.
  20. A chance of redemption, and hopefully not a repeat of the last match! Not exactly an exciting draw but it's a decent chance to get through, Shrewsbury were pretty poor against us, we basically gave them that FA Cup win.
  21. I had a look on my phone earlier and a few bits and pieces were overlapping so you couldn't actually read them properly, but in terms of menu and overall layout I think it'll be easier to navigate round. I'm on the laptop now and the site looks absolutely fine for me, I'm sure they'll sort out these little issues in the coming weeks.
  22. Even if they’ve made a bid (quite possible as Pete is a proper sports journalist, I think all these sports sites have just pinched his info) we’ve no idea on the amount. Are they going to come in with a massive bid first time? I doubt it. It could just be a bit cheeky bid in the vein of if you don’t ask you don’t get… Macauley is quite happy here, he's been interviewed plenty of times and wants to take this club into L1. Every player will have his price and if a club comes in with a huge offer and Macca is tempted to move up then it would be daft to turn it down. I’m pretty sure the club have said they have contingency plans if a key player is to move on. I'm not too worried about losing him right now, if I start to see reports on BBC, Sky Sports, The Athletic etc then I'll be worried...
  23. @Chris sometimes I do have some topics for the forum but they can end up being a bit long winded and I think, who’s going to want to read all that! So I usually end changing quite a bit and cutting a lot of thoughts out just to make them snappy and more as a discussion starter! I’m probably suited to churning out a couple of articles every now and again, so yes I’d be more than happy to contribute.
  24. He's pretty useful in terms of covering a number of positions, he can play anywhere across the front line and he's even played LWB for Newport too! Jodi's "supposedly" a target for some clubs too, he could be his replacement and Macca's as well. 2 for the price of 1, or is it 1 for the price of 2 in this case? ???? The sky and plants in bloom suggests it’s a current pic, even if he had visited at some point why would he just randomly post it now? There’s no way he’s travelled all the way from Newport to play padel for an hour, it’s a 7 hour journey there and back, that would be insane! He was probably told to delete the pic, I think there’s only one reason he’s here to be honest… And if he did sign, we'd be stacked with quality attackers.
  25. I can't quite believe how England are now on the side of the draw that doesn't include Spain, France, Germany and Portugal. It's an amazing chance to get to the final but sadly given our group performances I'm not confident!
