  1. Yeah really strange signing, in terms of being completely unexpected. After a season hampered by injuries, I'd have thought the coming season would have been the one where he'd have a right go at getting into Aberdeen's first team. That's why he moved there in the first place surely! Maybe he hadn't settled there, even so I can't see why he'd drop back to where he started after getting released by Newcastle. It just feels like he's taking a big step back, he was a top National League player, that's the lowest level he should be at.
  2. Luke Williams trying to fit Austin, Scott, McGoldrick, Jones and now Crowley into the same team at the same time... Exciting signing that's for sure. He had a very good season for Birmingham (in the championship) and then got shafted by a new manager who didn’t want him by all accounts. He’s played a lot of first division football in Netherlands too and look how impressive Ruben was and he’d only played second tier! I think we’ve got a good’un here.
  3. Yep, agree with pretty much everyone else, delighted he accepted the contract renewal. You’ve made the right choice Kyle, here’s to another successful season of captaining us!
  4. He only played for 90 minutes 9 times last season and didn’t feature in Kidderminster’s run in or play-off campaign. So hardly a key player for a NLN side, I’ve not watched him play but that suggests to me he's too far off the level we’d want. If we signed him we’d have to send him out on loan. Don’t know if financially that makes much sense. So right now the £150k looks like a good deal! That’s not to say he’s not capable of fulfilling his potential, took Colby Bishop a few seasons in non-league to get going but he was just one from hundreds we’ve released that have got back into the EFL. Who knows what will happen but right now I’d say taking him back would be a bit of risk.
  5. I thought that too but the media have been reporting something similar between Mason Mount and Man Utd and no-one seems to care so obviously not! I don’t like when players try and force moves, don’t sign a contract with the club in the first place if you don’t want to be there. He also signed for Brentford when they were in the Championship, so he’s got a lot of thanks to give them. I get players wanting to move on but I totally agree all this talk just be kept private, let the clubs negotiate a deal and if it can’t be done get your head down and show them why they should’ve paid that bit extra for you. Seems easier to throw a strop though, but this just makes me think less of these players.
  6. I can’t really begrudge him of moving on, as much as I would have loved him to stay, he completely deserves it. I wouldn’t have predicted Oxford either, I actually thought he might have had a good offer and go somewhere overseas in Europe... Anyway fantastic player and I’m so pleased he finished his time with us on a promotion. Been a joy to watch him play and I’m sure he’ll be a great at Oxford. ???? ????
  7. I get why people were cautious about signing McGoldrick. Signings like David Vaughan probably linger in the memory, but he wasn’t offered a contract having just had one of his best seasons to date. Goals, assists and just general quality play, he cleaned up at Derby's end of season awards too. The reaction from pretty much all of Derby’s fans tells a story too, they’re gutted and only have good things to say about him. Honestly, I’m really looking forward to seeing McGoldrick in a Notts shirt next season.
  8. Rodrigues, O’Brien, Cameron and Nemane were offered their deals a few weeks ago and it’s all gone quiet. I suspect we’ll hear something in the coming week but what are your gut feelings about who is staying and who is going? I’m going to say 2 go and 2 stay. Ruben and Nemane moving on (and up). Cameron and O’Brien staying. What do you think?
  9. It’s an interesting read but I’m not too worried, surely that is just a consequence of how we play? Our game is about being aggressive and dominant. We push all our players up and defend high which means the opposition have space to attack, usually on the counter when they are likely to be 3 on 3 (or even have an advantage if we’ve given the ball away). So when teams get opportunities they’re usually going to be quite good. Provided you are able to restrict the opposition’s time on the ball it works, like we’ve seen this season, how many times have we said the opposition didn’t get a sniff at goal, plenty. It’s also just one part of the story, so Boreham Wood have the best defence, both number wise and statistically but they only scored 52 goals from 46 games. Would you then no argue that their great defence is actually impacting their ability to score goals? I can’t imagine they score very high on the attacking side stats, but I'm sure we’ll be near the top of that one!
  10. It’s interesting how split everyone seems to be about the potential signing of McGoldrick, especially when Derby fans are desperate for him to stay after scoring 20+ goals and winning their player of the season! It seems mad that some fans aren’t so keen, but it just goes to show how much they have taken to the Reedtz Brothers philosophy and approach to running the club. Looking at the bigger picture, they see no long-term benefit or have doubts he fits our system/style of play. I get it but personally, I’d take him. He’s technically excellent, if you can compete (and score) at the top end of L1 he should be excellent in league 2. We’ve also got Macca, Scott and Morias which means we don’t need to rely on him or play him game after game. And if Warne’s Derby team is anything like his Rotherham one, they like to play on the front foot and be aggressive too, just they don’t really play out from the back and are more direct @super_ram will know this better than me. But I think in terms of being able to cope with our style of play he should be fine.
  11. Lot’s of good things about him online, the only concern is that he may be a little bit injury prone but hopefully that’s something we can monitor and manage over the season to minimalise the risk. I don’t really remember him playing against us when he was at Sutton, maybe our defenders just go the better of him. Interesting that along with Jodi Jones that’s two inverted wingers we’ve signed, I’m sure Williams already has plans as to where he’ll play.
  12. Very pleased and well deserved. He's a top professional, can imagine he's one of those keeping high standards for the younger players and next batch of new players. I'm with @CliftonMagpie I don't think Rawlinson is a slow as people make out. It doesn't help when you play either side of Baldwin and Nemane who are both pretty rapid too.
  13. I was chatting about this today funnily enough, I'm not too worried. I won't be surprised if one or two go but it's been mentioned before the recruitment team have plans in place if it does happen. I think our players getting linked with teams higher up the divisions is just something we’re going to have to get used to now. It’s inevitable when you have a recruitment system that signs great players! And as sad is it is to lose players like Wootton and Roberts (and hear about current players potentially going) it’s a better place to be in than how we used to operate, release 10 players at the end of a season only to sign another 10 players who would suffer the same fate a few years later…
  14. Got a soft spot for Spain me. Was lucky enough to usually holiday there when I was young. And I was your classic case of a football mad kid on holiday annoying his dad to buy him a knock off Spain shirt with "Raul 7" on the back! Probably only cost him €10, but you would've thought I was wiping out the holiday budget with the resistance he put up. My parents probably had to peel that shirt of my body for it's first wash, I remember wearing it for days... Always like going back now, when I can. Weather, food and people are always great. Agree with @liampie too, I'll be tuning into England v Malta next month to cheer on our Jodi!
  15. Well someone on Derby's forum says it's 90% done deal, which probably means in reality there's a 10% chance of it happening! Also someone on there wasn't too keen and called him "a stone overweight" ???? Don't go Ruben, they'll be no body shaming from any of us!
  16. A proper damning indictment of our recruitment over previous years was missing out on him. I always thought he’d do well and I remember being really miffed when went to Morecambe after being released from Wolves. At the time they were in the same league as us and no doubt had a much smaller budget so we absolutely could’ve and should've got him! He was raw, a bit hit and miss at times but you could see his technical abilities, particularly his dribbling, when he was on it. Another type of player who just looks so natural when on the ball. Fair play to him though cos he’s probably going to play in the Championship next season.
  17. I liked him and got why we signed him on loan, yes at times he got a bit bullied but he was only 18/19. 10 goals from 27 games was decent for his first proper spell in men’s football, especially when you consider he came off the bench a lot of the time. I think had he been “one of our own” a lot of fans would’ve been less harsh on him.
  18. I’ve kept and eye on Kyle Wootton this season, I was reading the Stockport forum about him early on in the season and they weren’t very complimentary, so I stopped! Just watched the EFL highlights and saw him pop up with goals instead. He’s just won Player of the Year and Player’s Player of the Year as well as finishing top scorer for them. So a very good season for him, sad that he’s missing the play-offs with an injury but he could be playing in League 1 next season if Stockport beat Carlisle this weekend.
  19. It's now the end of the week and so far only Jodi Jones has re-signed. He was obviously very keen! Everyone else still mulling it over I guess, although I am surprised we've not had a couple more players re-sign. Anyone worried we might be losing a few players?
  20. You mean like this @Fan of Big Tone ? ???? I thought it did it automatically. I guess not, anyway I pressed the enter button after posting the link and that converted it into the embedded tweet. As for the actual fixtures, I'm never really too bothered by pre-season. But what's with us playing TBC 3 times, couldn't we have found someone else? PSV? QPR?
  21. It's tough to predict right now because I've no idea who stays and who potentially comes in. That said, given our recent recruitment I'm sure we'll sign at least 3 or 4 top quality players. I'm looking at the likes of Barrow, Grimsby, Sutton and Stockport who have all finished well after their first season. Play-offs would be an amazing achievement, but I'd take a safe mid-table finish (with maybe a little FA Cup run) for our first season back!
  22. I’d love him to stay, and I’ll be ecstatic. But I feel like he’s been such a good servant to the club I’d be happy for him if he moves on (and upwards) because he deserves it. Football’s such a short career and he’s too good to be playing lower league football. I look at players like Mason-Clarke (formerly of Barnet) doing well in league 1 and Ruben is as good as him (if not better). And with our current recruitment I feel a lot more confident we’ll sign a good replacement so we shouldn’t miss him, but if he does go the initial news will hurt.
  23. Very pleased, he’s a versatile player and I think he’ll be used less in the wingback role next season. We’ve basically been able to play him as a winger in the wingback role because of how high up we play and how much we dominate. He rarely had to do any defending, but I can’t see it being that easy next season. I think he’ll play in the role behind the striker. Scott, Austin and Ruben (potentially) for those 2 positions behind the striker, that is some strength in depth there! He’ll have a full preseason with us too, I’d imagine after the time out he’s had next season should see him back to his best. Exciting times for us!
  24. I agree that we don’t need another striker. Langstaff is obviously going to play there and he seems pretty resistant to the wear and tear injuries that other players suffer. We only play one striker too, I think a 4th would get very little game time. Morias struggled to get a look in and he's 1 of just 3 strikers! That said some people seem to think David McGouldrick wants to end his career with us, he is a fan after all so it’s not completely bonkers. Even though he’s 35 he scored 22 goals in League 1 last season, so he’s clearly still quality. What do we do if sign him though? Seems mad to bench 1 of him or Langstaff so then you’d have to change the system from last season, that was so effective, to accommodate two up top. There's a few players in NL that I think could step up, and be a part of our squad but I'm sure 50% of signings will be players I barely know like last season!
  25. In a weird way I’ve enjoyed our spell in the 5th tier, watched some new teams, we won most weeks and like you say finished top 5 every season. Hardly a disastrous way to spend 4 years in my opinion but it’s certainly a great feeling to back in the EFL! I won’t miss the general shenanigans and incompetence of the NL Board, but we can look back and laugh now. Some highlights (lowlights) for me… Getting played off the park by Barrow(celona) and genuinely thinking we’ll be down here forever! James Rowe the Chesterfield manager telling an opposition player he’ll bite his f’ing nose off. Jim Parmenter telling us that their pitch at Dover was fine yet he had to record a video inside because it was raining so much… Gary Johnson dancing around when Torquay beat us in the “you stole our players” derby. (Funny how the last two are in NL South now, enjoy it lads, you could be there a while)
