AFC Wimbledon came with a game plan, and I think Stuart Maynard expected them to play like that. He made some good tactical changes that helped us deal with them, but the game seemed like it was going to end in a draw. If anything, I felt relieved we didn’t concede. Defensively, we were solid, and Matty Platt was outstanding. Alex Bass played really well too.

Matty Platt was outstanding throughout the game. His height makes him a real threat to the opposition during set pieces. I was really pleased for him, as it was a brilliant moment for such a hardworking player who doesn’t always get the praise he deserves. He works so well with Jacob Bedeau, who tends to get more of the attention.

A manager’s words have never been so true. I think it shows how well he reads the game, and while it’s clear we need to be more clinical, Stuart Maynard’s awareness of what AFC Wimbledon would bring was spot on. We won’t always be the better side, but in tight or tough games, one chance can change everything. Yesterday showed how important it is to be patient at times.

Alex Bass played well and kept us in the game, no doubt he helped us get the win, but I thought Matt Platt was outstanding in defence.

Everyone needs a break sometimes, and mental health is important. I noticed he looked unhappy at the final whistle against Port Vale, but that might have been because of the result. I hope he’s not too hard on himself about his performances. It’s good that he’s opened up and has been given time to get more support.

This was a big boost going into the game. David McGoldrick, while not always at his best, can be saved for big games like Chesterfield. This would yield better results in the long run instead of constantly relying on him and tiring him out, which leads to injuries and inconsistent performances. Allow him to be the threat and player we know he is by selecting carefully when he plays.

Matt Palmer has a lot of good qualities. Some fans criticise him for not being able to score, but this has never been his game. We shouldn't pressure players with this because it leads to them trying, and if they aren't good at it, it will lead to further criticism. Allow him to do what he has been doing well since being at Notts. I also disagree that he hasn't been the same since his injury. He's just returning to football. That's all.

It's good that David McGoldrick was fit enough to play. His partnership with Jatta is encouraging. The draw is what we could have expected going into the game. The first goal was unlucky and their second was due to extremely poor defending. Notts did enough to get something from the game. I'm just pleased Didzy managed to score at the second attempt.

I don't really mind who we draw. I hope it will be a team that we don't have to worry much about. I know teams lift themselves for the cup, but if we draw a team where fielding some of our youngsters can give them experience and also help us make the next round, it seems like a win-win to me.

George Abbott was the standout player for me. I thought Dan Crowley and Kellan Gordon did some good work, but Abbott is the glue to the squad. His presence reminds me a lot of Ryan Yates, just a very solid midfielder.

I can’t remember who said it, but this game is more than just 3 points. Notts has to approach the game in a way that shows the hard work from previous matches and get a result that makes the fans happy. I wouldn’t mind a draw, as long as the performance is good. I don’t think the game will be easy, but avoiding defeat is very important.

Lucas Ness has a nasty scar just above his left ankle. He walked past me after the game against Port Vale. It looked like it had been stapled at one point. Very nasty-looking scar. I hope nothing serious is wrong with Cedwyn Scott.

I have finished for the day and have no work either, so it’s nice to have some free time. Is anyone up to much at the weekend? I don’t have a ticket for the Chesterfield vs. Notts match, so I’m considering my options for where to watch the game.

I voted for Ryley Reynolds. I thought he looked sharp and decent.

I don’t have anything of mine hiding in the loft. My things are scattered all around my bedroom, probably under the bed or in the cupboard. ???? That’s a nice retro-looking scarf!
