Notts County Embraces Change: Stuart Maynard Steps into the Spotlight

Notts County has made an exciting decision by bringing Stuart Maynard on board as their new head coach.

At 43 years old, Maynard is joining us from Wealdstone, where he made a name for himself with his accomplishments and unique style of play in the National League. As a fellow fan, I couldn't be happier with this appointment, and here's why.

Firstly, Maynard has proven that he can do extraordinary things with limited resources. He took the reins at Wealdstone in March 2021 and guided them to their highest league position in 36 years, finishing 13th in the National League.

He managed to repeat this achievement in the subsequent season, despite losing some key players and navigating the challenges of the Covid pandemic. He kept Wealdstone competitive and entertaining, fostering a style of football that was both attractive and true to their identity.

In his own words, Maynard said, "I think they're a really humble group... they're just genuinely good guys that want to do the best for the football club." This humility and dedication are precisely what Notts County needs at this moment. The club is working with a tight budget in League Two, having been promoted from the National League last season. They're aiming for another promotion, but they're up against larger and wealthier clubs. They need a head coach who can maximise what he has, motivate and develop the players, and instil a winning culture.

Maynard is the perfect fit. He has a clear vision and philosophy, which he successfully implemented at Wealdstone. He prefers a 5-4-1 formation, with a high-pressing and high-intensity approach.

He likes his team to be solid and organised in defence, but also creative and dynamic in attack. He likes to utilise pace and width, exploiting the spaces behind the opposition defence. He enjoys scoring goals and entertaining the fans.

Maynard believes that his style of play at Wealdstone fits perfectly with Notts County. He said, "Yeah, I feel that the way that we played at Wealdstone fits kind of straight away into Notts... I think it's a perfect fit." This is a testament to his confidence and adaptability, which are crucial for a head coach.

These are all qualities that we, as Notts County fans, can appreciate. The club has a proud history and tradition, and it deserves a head coach who can restore its glory. Maynard has demonstrated that he respects and understands the club's ethos and values, and that he's ready to take on the challenge. His three-and-a-half-year deal shows his commitment and ambition.

Furthermore, Maynard has shown that he's willing to make sacrifices and take risks for his career. He left his job as a BT technician to focus full time on his new role at Notts County. He left a club where he was admired and respected, where he had built strong relationships with the players and fans, and where he had achieved remarkable results. He took a leap of faith and a step-up, knowing that he would face more pressure and scrutiny at Notts County.

This speaks volumes about his passion for the game and his confidence in his abilities. He's not here just to make up the numbers or to settle for mediocrity. He's here to make a difference, to take Notts County to the next level. He's here to fulfil his potential and to help the club fulfil theirs. He's here to make history and to make us proud.

I fully support Stuart Maynard and his coaching team. I believe he's the right man for the job, and I'm excited to see what he can do with our club. I think he will bring success and joy to Meadow Lane, and I can't wait to see him in action. I wish him all the best, and I hope he will make us all happy. As Maynard himself said, "Look, there's no guarantees in it... But look, it's always the aim. When you're a club like Notts, first and foremost, you want success... and that's what hopefully we can bring.

The way Maynard guided Wealdstone to their highest position in years proves he's a man who can inspire and achieve. With our history and his ethos, this feels like a new chapter for the Magpies. His long-term contract is a bold statement and, frankly, it’s refreshing to see the club backing a coach with such confidence. Here's to success under Stuart's command.

Stuart Maynard stepping in is a statement of intent from Notts County. Not many coaches would leave a secure job to jump into the unpredictable world of football, which speaks volumes of Stuart's dedication. I'm genuinely stoked to see how he shapes the team's future.

i absolutely agree with you @TheSkipper, its very early days and we cant read to much into the barrow game but defensively we did look better. it will take time but i think maynard is a good fit and if we can help him settle in quicker, i think the results will come. away from home will be his biggest test but i am happy with the appointment.

Every club needs a manager who believes in the cause and with Stuart Maynard, I think we've hit the jackpot. His approach to the game is progressive, and his past shows he'll give everything for success. We've needed someone who can energise the squad and inject some dynamism into our play. Feeling very optimistic about our prospects.

Given the resources Maynard had at Wealdstone, his achievements were nothing short of remarkable. It gives us a glimpse into a future where Notts County not only survives but thrives against bigger clubs. His ambitious leap to the Magpies is promising, and if his past is any indication, it's only upwards from here.

Looks like Maynard's all about fostering a team spirit and a fighting mentality. Reckon that's exactly what'll keep us pushing for promotion.

What impresses me the most about Maynard is his adaptability. Shifting from a secure job and succeeding at Wealdstone under difficult circumstances shows real guts and determination. That character is infectious, and I believe he has the potential to inspire our players to punch above their weight. It's been a while since we've had a manager who not only respects the club's values but also aligns perfectly with our current needs on and off the pitch.

Maynard's a fascinating choice for us. His work with Wealdstone really showed his ability to overcome adversity and manage a team through tough times. Plus, his style of play is not just effective, but it's also exciting to watch – something we've been missing.

Seeing him let go of a secure career and jump at the chance to coach Notts County demonstrates an admirable commitment and belief in his vision. If he can instill that same belief in our players, who knows how far we can go this season.

Solid in defence and creative in attack, Stuart's vision could be just what the Magpies need. Can't wait for the next match!

I completely support Stuart Maynard. I don’t understand why some fans can’t reserve their judgement and give a manager a fair chance with a series of games before criticising his lack of experience. Just like Luke Williams was still learning about management, it will be the same for Maynard. I think he did quite well in his first game against Barrow. We didn’t just play defensively, but made changes to enhance our attacking play. All we needed was that second goal. So far, the signs are promising.

Leaving a steady job to pursue his coaching dream? That's the kind of passion and commitment you want to see in a head coach.

He as been given 3 year contract with a big pay rise doing something he loves not that bigger gamble

I understand the concerns, but I believe we should allow him some time. I don't see his appointment as a bad thing; he appears to be the suitable successor to Luke Williams. I don't expect to notice significant changes until several games have been played, but I have faith that Stuart Maynard will lead us to the playoffs, at the very least.

We must remember that Stuart Maynard has all the resources he needs to succeed in his role, with the Reedtz ensuring he has everything necessary. The coaching team is superior to many at this level.

His tactics and coaching style should start to show as we play more games, but we’re still a few matches away from seeing the complete picture. I wish fans would support him and wait to see the outcome. I firmly believe that Maynard will prove his worth. His introduction at Meadow Lane was a nice touch. Let’s rally behind him.

That’s a good point. The security of a three-year contract and a pay rise certainly mitigates some of the risk. It’s great to see such dedication being rewarded.

The Reedtz brothers have chosen Stuart Maynard, and that’s good enough for me. I have faith in their choices and think that Maynard has a lot of potential. He might need some time to adjust to things at Meadow Lane, as it’s a big leap from Wealdstone, no disrespect to them. But he’s inheriting a good team and we might see a few more join. I reckon there’s still scope to look for a player like Matt Palmer and perhaps another to play in the striker’s support role.

Really good article by the @TheSkipper

I am excited about the future for Notts under Stuart Maynard, from the moment he was appointed from his first interview, to his first match, we have all witnessed the reason why the Reedtz  brothers appointed this Head Coach.

There is a real buzz around the club since the date of his appointment and his first match against Barrow demonstrated why that buzz is warranted.

The match may not have been spectacular, due to Barrow's negative tactics, and Notts didn't make a good start, but in the second half we saw some of Stuart's tweaks to the fore with an improved defensive performance.

We can see that Stuart is going to work to ensure that Notts are a really good all round side instead of a brilliant side going forward but poor in defending & that is giving me confidence for the remaining games.

I'm looking forward to playing Mansfield after more work has been done to in tweaking our shape and way of playing.

Early signs are promising, and our fan base needs to give Stuart Maynard a fair chance. We are performing well in League Two, and if he can make progress with our away performances, things might improve. It will take time, and unfortunately, I believe some players are not quite up to the task we need, but Maynard will identify this, and things should improve more quickly over time.

Some supporters will always have doubts about any manager, no matter their background, but Stuart Maynard seems to have a certain quality. He appears more promising than Luke Williams, whose track record was hardly noticeable before he arrived here, and yet he did amazing things. We need to reignite that spark in our play and secure some important victories. The Mansfield match is crucial for this reason. If we can succeed there, it will boost support for Maynard. Given the points Mansfield has been losing recently, I think we have a good chance of upsetting them.
