Rotherham United had no game this weekend due to internationals (don't laugh) so I was looking forward to visiting the magnificent Meadow Lane stadium and two in form clubs, namely Notts County and Grimsby Town. Unfortunately due to my internet being down during the day and me making a snap decision to go, I couldn't meet up with Joe, my site buddy (not ignoring you, honest). With more Millers connections than a lego set (Adam Collin, Scott Loach, Rob Milsom, Michael O'Connor and Jonathan FUpdated by Joe Jones

It's clear that Notts need signings. Even before we played our first two friendlies, against Rolls-Royce and Basford, it was very clear. In terms of transfer activity, our three signings so far puts us 20th in League Two in terms of how many players we've brought in. At the current moment in time we can only just about fill a matchday squad. Improvements and a bit of squad depth is definitely needed. Every position, apart from left-back, needs either a new signing who is going to come intoUpdated by Joe Jones

Northampton continue their seemingly inevitable march to League One but who will join them and what about the teams fighting to hold on to their Football League status? Once again the fixture list for Saturday and Tuesday has thrown up some interesting games, the results of which will help clarify how the final League Two table will look. This week I've highlighted five games from another busy week and probably for the last time this seasoAdded by super_ram

Tonight sees Notts County face city rivals - and cross-river neighbours - Nottingham Forest for a pre-season friendly. Non-competitive encounters between the two are a relatively regular occurrence, but league or cup clashes have been few and far between in recent years. So what happened the last five times the two sides met in competitive action? Pride of Nottingham takes a look. 11 January 1992: Nottingham Forest 1-1 Notts County (Division One) The last top-flight league enUpdated by Joe Jones

There’s much to be said about being a Notts County supporter, the togetherness I have witnessed and been a part of has really resonated with me. From the first time I witnessed a fan actually using the Pride of Nottingham site, to the friends I have made from within the community, it’s something I am very proud of. Truth be said, this club is much better than most probably realise and the years of struggling has only brought people together. Supporting a local club like NoAdded by Chris

Notts County has made an exciting decision by bringing Stuart Maynard on board as their new head coach. At 43 years old, Maynard is joining us from Wealdstone, where he made a name for himself with his accomplishments and unique style of play in the National League. As a fellow fan, I couldn't be happier with this appointment, and here's why. Firstly, Maynard has proven that he can do extraordinary things with limited resources. He took the reins at Wealdstone in March 2021 and guidedAdded by TheSkipper

How amazing would it be to see Notts make yet another round in the FA Cup? I think it would be incredible, and tomorrow night Kevin Nolan’s side will head into a game against Swansea City whereby we could progress to the 5th round. This season has been very surreal, it’s almost at the complete end of last year’s spectrum and I believe the hard work on the field is paying off dividends. It’s a tough ask from our squad playing in the fourth tier of English football to go to a PremieUpdated by Joe Jones

Being a Notts County fan is never an easy role. We’ve had more ups and downs at Meadow Lane than a rollercoaster for the majority of our history. But it’s safe to say that, like many fellow supporters, I’ve reached the end of my tether here. Just this week, a Facebook “memory” from four years ago appeared in my feed where I’m proudly declaring that the Magpies had “played four, won four, scored five goals, conceded zero, and will take on Charlton Athletic (top ofUpdated by Joe Jones

Over the forty years I've been following the Magpies, the club have had some good, some bad and some indifferent loan players, and to be honest I wasn't bothered about it at first. However, over the years there have been some loan players who have pulled on a Notts Shirt and have stood out for me, namely, Jack Grealish, Callum McGregor from 2013 and Jorge Grant and Ryan Yates from 2017. I remember Grealish's home League debut, I believe it was against Tranmere Rovers (I stand to be correcteAdded by Wheelbarrow repair man

Nothing much changes. Northampton win again, making it thirteen games unbeaten and Notts lose again making it six games since a win. It was different at Dagenham & Redbridge as their 1–0 win over York gave the Daggers their first home win since last April. Here are the League Two results for the weekend: Saturday 5th March 2016 Wimbledon 0–0 Accrington Barnet 1–3 Hartlepool Cambridge 0–1 Exeter Carlisle 1–4 Northampton Crawley 1–1 Morecambe Dagenham & Redbridge 1–0 YorkAdded by super_ram

As Kevin Keegan would say, 'I will love it if we beat them.' This phrase applies so much to Notts fans for this game. It's not just about pride, passion or bragging rights. It's about revenge. Revenge for the defeats, the pain we have suffered whilst the six fingered *insert swear word here* have celebrated and had their deluded heads up in the sky. This derby is massive for Notts, not just to keep our unbeaten run and momentum going in the league, but we need to beat MaUpdated by Joe Jones

So we've had a quite interesting transfer saga at Notts County this summer. No, not that one. The one of Jorge Grant. After an impressive loan spell at Meadow Lane that year, would he join Notts permanently? Would he pen a new contract at Nottingham Forest? Or would he join another club (permanently or on loan) altogether? As it turned out, it was the second best option on the plate - a new contract at the City Ground, but a one-year loan at the Lane. As we look forward to aAdded by Joe Jones

Heading into the Nottinghamshire derby yesterday, I had a sense of uncertainty about the game. I always knew it would be a tight match, one which may be physical and difficult for us to get hold of. The starting line-up on paper actually seemed very good, minus the odd changes which I would have personally made myself - mentioned already within the Pride of Nottingham scouting report and more recently the tactical talk piece I write. Yet it was clear even from the kick off that we seemUpdated by Joe Jones

So it's been six months since Alan Hardy took over Notts County, and even the most cynical Notts fan out there (I'm up there so I know what I'm talking about) cannot deny that the club is now in a pretty healthy state of affairs. The four-year period between early 2013 and early 2017, when the club deteriorated to the point it was looking like a possibility that we would be following the Magpies in the conference, or in the ninth tier as a phoenix club, is now pretty much a memory which canUpdated by Joe Jones

When heading to an away game on a Saturday morning prior to an afternoon kickoff, it’s difficult to not notice the number of different social groups which are associated with Notts County. I would like everyone reading this article to imagine the ‘typical football fan’ in the following scenario: 8am: Meeting point is Lloyds, Hockley for ‘brekkie and a pint’. 9am: Next it’s a stop in the shop in the train station for numerous purchases of Beer and Cider. 9.30am: Board the train witUpdated by Joe Jones

Sam, Tom, George, William - some familiar names now as then, the boys that made up Southwell City Football Club in 1911. The team photo below was to mark their win in the final of the Newark and District League Challenge Cup. None of them could have foreseen the events to follow, four years of what became to be known as the Great War that would leave 16 million dead across the globe. Aileen Trew very kindly took some time out to visit the Pride of Nottingham forum and answer questions put to her by our community. Here is some of the discussion: Q) Are you and Ray hoping the clubs sale is sorted before the end of the season? What is the current stage at? A) Yes, he's hoping to get it sorted ASAP. A lot has been said about the policing and stewarding of Notts supporters at Mansfield on Saturday. Now I'm not for one second going to claim that our fans are all angels, although find me a club that doesn't have it's fair share of idiots, but year in year out when we go to Mansfield we get treated like absolute dirt, and it's becoming a joke. When we go to Mansfield, we're banned from the town centre and pubs. When they come to us they get free roam of the city. There was a pub near the sUpdated by Joe Jones

Juventus's summer transfer business ended with a reinforcement in midfield, Blaise Matuidi, who came from Paris Saint-Germain and chose number 14, and a defender, Benedikt Howedes, who came from Schalke 04 and chose shirt number 21. Following the closure of the transfer market, our competitive fixtures started: in the Italian Supercoppa final, Juve lost 3-2 to Lazio, with a Paulo Dybala brace not enough to win. Was Saturday the day when the wheel finally fell off the wheelbarrow? Notts County have suffered from wobbly form for a number of weeks now, and despite last week's impressive 4-1 win against Crewe Alexandra - a side which many of their own fans think is in major disarray and worry about its prospects of staying up - there have been far too many indifferent performances and bad results in the league in recent weeks. Two months into the season and Notts County are flying high. Top of League Two, joint-second highest goals scored on 21, joint-third lowest goals conceded on 11 (and just over half of those came in our two "blip" games). What makes it all the more impressive is that there have been some really tough games in August and September - very much make or break. And credit to Kevin Nolan and the players (and Alan Hardy) it's been a case of "make". August gave us two teams relegated from LeaguAdded by Joe Jones
