Unsurprisingly, following Notts County’s 5-0 drubbing by Mansfield Town at Field Mill, Mark Cooper’s post match interviews displayed a man who was perplexed by what he had just seen. He wasn’t the only one. The only consolation for Notts at this moment in time is that results are not crucial, with league safety assured. But, as any die-hard football fan will tell you, a local derby is a different beast entirely, whether you have something to play for or like Notts, you’re simply filling yourAdded by Tom Walters

I was thrilled to hear that Jim O’Brien has extended his stay at the club. Since arriving in 2019, O’Brien has been an influential player both on and off the pitch. With his Scottish determination and uncanny toughness, he has made a significant impact on the club. O’Brien joined Notts County at a low point in the club’s history, but his arrival gave us fans hope that things would improve. And improve they did - under the guidance of Luke Williams and the ownership of the Reedtz brothers, tUpdated by Chris

The performances so far from Notts County during the 2017-18 season haven’t been the ‘most complete’, something which Kevin Nolan has admitted himself. However every fan should give credit to Nolan for where we are, sitting second in the league after 14 games with 9 of those being wins is very impressive. Especially after the turmoil of the last few seasons, there will always be a transitional period, and I do honestly feel bad performances are part and parcel of that. This said IUpdated by Joe Jones

During four years in the National League, we finished third, fifth and fifth again. Each time we made the playoffs before losing. Then this amazing season came along. However, there was always the concern that missing out on top spot would mean disaster. Even the Wrexham owners felt for us. No doubt still hurting from the previous season when they finished second only to suffer playoff disappointment. The script seemed to be written. Finish top and go up. Finish second and lose out in the pUpdated by Chris

Jodi Jones extending his contract with Notts County is a massive win, not only for the club but also for the fans. Jones has become such an integral part of the team, and his decision to commit to staying at Meadow Lane until 2027 sends a clear message. Both the player and the club are aiming high for the future. What strikes me most about Jones is his passion for Notts County. You don’t often see players who speak so openly about how much a club means to them. When Jones said he wasUpdated by Chris

Once again Notts stumble back to the drawing board, yet as a club, do we ever learn? It doesn’t seem that long ago that Jon Stead was League Two's Player of the Month, in fact it was only last September - but things seemed a lot more optimistic back then. With back-to-back defeats at the hands of Blackpool and more recently Newport County, it seems the Magpies are destined to pitifully play out the remainder of the games until the January transfer window opens up. When Notts County fell to a 3-0 hammering at Coventry City in the first matchday of the season, the Black and White Army could have been forgiven for thinking "and... here... we... go... again!" The Sky Blues were rampant, while the Magpies looked like rabbits in the headlights. Of course, this now feels like it could just as easily have been years ago, because it proved the shock to the system which galvanised the team, with all the players outraged they could allow themselves to fall to sUpdated by Joe Jones

We’re now 5 games into the season in all competitions and it is looking promising for Notts County. Having made a few additions in the summer with the window still yet to close, here is my opinion on the signings we have made so far and what they can bring to the squad this season. So far with the transfer window closing on August 31, Notts have made 13 signings. In depth 2 being goalkeepers, 4 defenders, 5 midfielders and 2 forwards. Within the 13 signings 2 of these are loan plaUpdated by Joe Jones

Notts have stumbled from season to season with no real plan and no real direction. The club has no identity. There has never been any real stability. Notts have had 28 permanent managers since 1992. With Alan Hardy soon to be selling the club, here’s a list of things that needs to change at Notts if we are to make our way back up the leagues. Board level decisions This step is a crucial part of football and is key to the club’s future and whether it progresses or not. DecisioUpdated by PON_News

As Notts County fans, anticipation for the new football season is always high, and this year is no exception. Fans eagerly await the release of the fixtures, planning their weekends and away trips to support their beloved team. The Magpies will kick off their campaign with an away game against Sutton United, followed by a local derby at home against Grimsby Town. The next three games will see Notts County face Morecambe, Doncaster Rovers, and Tranmere Rovers. Each game presents its own chaUpdated by Chris

So we're a third of the way through the League Two campaign and the table does not lie. Notts County are second in the standings, with 30 points from 15 games and the second-best goal difference out of the 24 teams at + 9 (and Luton are way ahead of everyone else this season with +22). Yes, if you had asked me back in July if I would have taken this position for the Magpies a third of the way through the season I would not only have said yes, but I probably would have laughed at you for sugAdded by Joe Jones

Pride of Nottingham's Liampie has spoken to fellow Notts County fans Melvyn Watson, "Magpie Moomin" and Joe Maskrey about their thoughts on the season just gone. Q1: Do you feel Neal Ardley should remain as Notts County manager? MW: “Stability is required at NCFC so I believe we should keep NA as manager, he is a wheeler dealer in the transfer market and has good contacts, he is passionate about NCFC. Not being able to show authority with senior players that he did not sign, his substiUpdated by CliftonMagpie

After the departure of 12 first team players, with 17 still under contract, we start to look at who should be given more time on our first ever ‘Vanarama tour’. Players underused, and retained this season include: Kion Etete, Pierce Bird, Tom Crawford, Krisitan Dennis, Will Patching, Sam Osborne, Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain, Remayne Campbell, Alex Howes and Andy Kellet. You could even include Ross Fitzsimons and Matt Tootle. Firstly, Kion Etete’s future is a hot topic now. The strikerUpdated by PON_News

The season is over and it's been arguably the worst one in Notts County's history as they tumbled out of the Football League but the pain must subside ahead of the rebuilding job, something which us fans must be mentally prepared for. Pride of Nottingham is taking submissions from fans with their take on the events that have taken place over the season and, most importantly, looking forward - here is a piece by Phil Buxton on how he feels the Magpies - and fellow fans - can do this, based oUpdated by PON_News

League Two matchday 1: Coventry City 3-0 Notts County Notts County's season began on the worst possible note, falling to a heavy 3-0 defeat at Coventry City in the opening game of the campaign. The Magpies had their moments but weaknesses at the back saw the Sky Blues take full advantage, with young prodigy Jodi Jones bagging himself a hat-trick. It’s certainly a fact that a toxic atmosphere within a ground has a negative effect on performances, we only have to remember back to the brief tenure of Jamie Fullarton. At that time, it felt as if a reasonable number of fans were turning up wanting us to lose. Now, I’m not suggesting that was the case this season. In fact, quite the opposite as I think our supporters – in the main – have been really supportive and patient, far more than the performances have deserved. It’s an expensiUpdated by liampie

My first tweet following the news of Ricardo Moniz’s sacking was along the lines of the managerial merry-go-round still turning at Notts. Sadly on this occasion, I do agree with the decision to make a change and I think the timing is perfect. I wasn’t in favour of Shaun Derry’s departure, partly because of the man himself but mainly because of the timing of his sacking. Despite the fact he had been at the helm while we dropped like a stone towards the relegationUpdated by Joe Jones

Notts fans will have to accept less attractive away days throughout the season (a friend of mine currently living in Birmingham has already suggested Solihull Moors). The grounds and facilities will generally be incomparable to that of Meadow Lane’s and Notts fans could bring a home atmosphere to some grounds with a good away following as clubs such as Boreham Wood failed to even average a thousand fans in attendance last season. This is purely a personal view and no doubt every reader will disagree with my choice and want to replace at least half of this list! There’s no logic to some of it, and there are no old scores to settle – I’ve chosen these on days I expect (hope?) to enjoy, which is why I’ve left some out on the basis that unless we’re 4-0 up in the first 10 minutes, I probably won’t enjoy them… Sutton United – the first game back. Last season was not a memorable one from a Notts County fan perspective. Relegation to the National League for the first time in our history, thus losing the title as the World's Oldest Football League Club. Hopefully we can bounce back at the first time of asking. But while we are playing in the National League, there's something for fans to look forward to, especially if you are a fan who loves to groundhop.
