Jon Stead eager to show off Notts County progress to home fans

Joe Jones

Notts County striker Jon Stead is eager for his side to show the home fans how much progress they have made under new manager Jamie Fullarton by putting in a great display against Leyton Orient at Meadow Lane on Saturday.

All of the Magpies' three wins under Fullarton have come on the road, at Crawley Town, Luton Town and Hartlepool United, while their only other home game ended in a lacklustre 2-0 defeat against AFC Wimbledon.

Stead, the club’s top scorer with 11 goals, said: "We want to show what we've been doing. It's been getting us some success on our travels, but we need to show that here.

"It's a good opportunity to do that against a side that are slightly above us in the table, and one we feel we can claw back a bit and gain some ground on and catch. We've got to be looking to do that if we want to get anywhere near where we want to be at the end of the season."

Talking about the Hartlepool game in midweek, which finished 3-2, he added: "I think the way the game swung when it got to 2-2, I think the majority of people probably wrote us off as we were going to draw the game or lose it.

"I'm not going to sit here and say it couldn't have gone either way because it could have done. They had a great chance to make it 3-2, but we hung on and we got there and we got the result, which was massive and it keeps us with the opportunity of getting to where we want to be."

If we can get Jon in the zone and keep him up front, he can be a key player - don't get me wrong I like that he drifts and contributes to the defending but it's got to be at the right time. Often he's always too far back which he doesn't have the legs for.

Noticed some fans having cheeky bets on him to score first! Let's hope he does.
