Kevin Nolan has stated that Notts County's 4-1 hammering by Derby County at Meadow Lane would have been a learning curve for his players.

The Rams put the Magpies to the sword as Luke Thomas, Mason Bennett and Tom Huddlestone all scored, while Kane Hemmings scored a penalty for the hosts.

β€œWhen you get beat 4-1 and you don’t have a lot of the ball then it’s difficult for the lads,” Nolan said at full time. β€œBut it gives them great exposure in terms of out of possession stuff.

β€œWe haven’t done a lot of that yet so that’s something we can really focus and start working on it to make sure we are ready for August 4.

β€œIt’s great having this type of opposition because it gives you something different to what we are going to be facing week in, week out in the league.

β€œFor me, we are hoping to be up there and one of the best and when you play these teams you do nothing but learn.”
