Notts County want to bring former Nottingham Forest defender and Magpies loanee Louis Laing back to Meadow Lane, according to reports.

The 23-year-old, currently at Motherwell, is now believed to be on John Sheridan's radar as the Notts gaffer looks to shore up his defence.

Laing was brought to Notts on loan by Shaun Derry in the 2014/15 season and performed admirably at the back for the Magpies while at the club.

He moved on a free transfer to Motherwell in the summer of last year after leaving Forest, having spent five months on loan at the Scottish Premier League club.

The Nottingham Post speculates that Laing could be in the Notts squad as early as tomorrow, when they host Plymouth Argyle in NG2.

Sheridan has also been linked with the likes of Kelvin Wilson and Lewin Nyatanga over the summer.

There's a rumour about a Forest defender coming, I really wonder if a certain place is playing on that and have decided to spin it to Laing? I can't see him coming.

It's a bit of a far step from the Scottish Premier League to League Two.

Even if this was a loan.
