Macaulay Langstaff Heads to Millwall in Landmark Transfer

PON_News

In a pivotal move for both clubs, prolific Notts County striker Macaulay Langstaff is set to join Championship side Millwall.

The 27-year-old has been on the radar of the Lions throughout the summer, and the deal looks imminent, securing last season’s League Two Golden Boot winner for their squad.

Langstaff, who extended his stay with Notts County until 2027 in August and was installed as club captain on June 10, now appears poised to make his debut at Championship level.

Millwall’s current roster of strikers includes Tom Bradshaw and Kevin Nisbet, with the addition of Langstaff promising to bolster their attacking options.

In addition, Japhet Tanganga is reportedly set to undergo a medical with Millwall in preparation for a permanent move.

A staggering tally of 71 goals in 97 appearances for Notts County stands testament to Langstaff’s prowess since his arrival from Gateshead. His signing for Millwall comes with a reported fee of £750,000.

Langstaff's journey began by netting 42 goals in the National League, propelling Notts to promotion. He then continued his impressive form by scoring 28 goals in League Two.

While Notts County currently hold joint fifth favourites status for the title, Langstaff’s exit might impact those odds.

The decision to part ways with Langstaff was undoubtedly difficult for Notts County. Their board of directors expressed immense pride in Langstaff’s achievements, noting his professionalism and significant contributions to the club's recent successes.

“We’re incredibly proud of what Macaulay has achieved in his time at Meadow Lane and wish him every success as he commences this exciting new chapter in his career. While we knew we were signing an excellent player, we could never have envisaged his achievements reaching the heights they have done over the last two years,” the directors stated.

Stuart Maynard, head coach of Notts County who named Langstaff captain earlier this summer, reiterated the sentiment: “I would like to join the board in congratulating Macaulay on such a fantastic move. While we would have all loved to have kept him, his goals return was always going to make that incredibly difficult, and it wouldn’t have been right for anyone to stand in his way.”

As Langstaff looks to thrive in the Championship, Notts County prepare to build a competitive squad ready to take on the challenges of the upcoming season. The departure of their star striker marks the end of a significant chapter, but also the beginning of new opportunities for both Langstaff and Notts County.

It's a bittersweet moment for Notts fans. While we’re incredibly proud of what Macaulay Langstaff has achieved, it's tough to see him leave. His 42 goals in the National League and 28 in League Two showcased he was on another level. He truly made his mark, becoming a fan favourite and an inspirational leader when he took on the club captaincy. The memories he leaves behind, including those historic goals during our promotion season, are priceless.

I think Millwall have struck gold with this transfer. They’ve not only acquired a talented goal scorer but a player with immense dedication and professionalism. Langstaff’s presence will surely lift the squad, and I’m eager to follow his journey in the Championship. All the best to him, and here’s hoping Notts County can find a worthy successor to carry on his legacy.

Gutted that Macca has left us but I am absolutely thrilled for him to have got the chance to play in the second tier.

Macca will always be regarded as an icon at Notts, and he will be remembered with fondness by every Notts fan.

He is a great footballer and a great guy too. Not only is he a great striker, but his work rate around the pitch is second to none. That's what makes him special.

I will be watching him with interest next season and hope he can score 20 goals or more for his new club and help them get promoted to the PL.

That would be something, non league to PL in less than four years

Thank you Macca and good luck.

Don't get me wrong, I anticipated this would occur eventually and I believe it’s a positive step for Macaulay Langstaff. Although it’s unfortunate that he’s moving to a club like Millwall, I’m confident he will excel there. That being said, I don’t think Notts should have hurried to make him the captain. In retrospect, they should have been patient. This has resulted in a wave of negativity, which is a clear sign of poor management.

The club certainly knows how to let us down. I don’t think we’ve received a fair deal, but we won’t know the specifics. If it’s £700,000, we’ve been short-changed. I don’t want to dwell on the negatives, I just wish Macaulay Langstaff all the best. He’s provided us with some wonderful memories, and after seeing us demoted to the National League, he definitely helped propel us back to League Two. Thank you, Macca.

It’s unlikely we’ll see another player quite like Macaulay Langstaff, but his contributions and memories will continue to live on. It’s heartbreaking to see such a gifted player leave, but he’s earned this opportunity. He’s worked incredibly hard for both Notts and Gateshead. It’s hard to deny him this chance, and I can only hope that one day he’ll look back on his time with us as the highlight of his career.

While it’s disappointing to see Langstaff leave Notts, it’s a move he truly deserves. His stats speak for themselves, 71 goals in 97 appearances is nothing short of amazing. Playing in the Championship will be a great opportunity for him to showcase his talent on a bigger stage. Millwall have gained a fantastic player who is not only a goal scorer but a leader and professional through and through.

The transfer was bound to happen at some point. In my view, it’s better than losing him in the middle of the season, which could have been devastating and more difficult to recover from. On the other hand, we now have the pre-season and time to bolster the squad. I’m pleased that the club is now attracting fees, rather than losing key players for free. I just wish we could have had him for one more season.

Millwall must be over the moon with this signing. Langstaff’s record at Notts County was stellar. You don’t come across a striker who scores 42 goals in a season very often. Although it’s a big loss for us, it’s a well-deserved step up for Langstaff. His dedication and fantastic relationship with everyone at the club speak volumes about his character. Championship football will be a new challenge for him, but I’m confident he will rise to it.

Let’s set our emotions aside and simply wish Macaulay Langstaff the best. It’s dreadful news that we’ve lost him, but every time we sign a talented player, another team will experience the same feelings we’re having now. Football careers are short, so Macca must seize the opportunity. Good luck to him!

£750,000. You're having a Laugh. Who ever Negotiated that Deal want's FIRING. That's all it took to Sell a Goal Machine like Macca? It was rumoured last season he was worth at least £1.5 million. So much for It will take a exceptional offer to coax Macca away from the Lane,  So Much for We don't need to Sell Players Eh? Richard Montague. Why is everything Hush Hush? Why Not tell the Fans the Details of Macca's Transfer? It will come out eventually anyway, so why Not Tell Us Now? So we Fans can understand why he's been Sold at a Lowly Price. Honestly we Fans are treated as if we're Stupid. Am I Pi**ed Off You Betcha

Regarding Macca himself a Footballer's Career is a Short one and can easily be stopped  by an injury. Going on to Better things I Don't think it could have happened to a Nicer Guy. Macca I Sincerely Hope you go on to Break even more Records and hopefully you find yourself playing in the Premier League One Day. You were a Star At The Lane, You'll Always Have A Place in Every Notts Fans Heart. You Sir Are A Legend, and May all Good Things Come Your Way.

MACCA LONGSTAFF - HE'S ONE OF OUR OWN.

@Wheelbarrow repair man supposedly they are paying more than £700,000, i have read that its likely that they will be paying instalments and other addon bonuses. true or not i dont know, but if its true a bid was rejected. maybe this one is worth more than that? we can only hope its more as its a done deal.
