Notts County have announced the signing of experienced centre-back Elliott Ward on a free transfer.

The Magpies were believed to be in the market for a defender following a dreadful start to the League Two campaign.

On Monday afternoon, Ward was confirmed to have arrived at Meadow Lane, though the contract length has not been disclosed.

The 33-year-old has played professional football for nearly 14 years, with a tally of more than 300 appearances at every level of the English professional football pyramid, thus providing experience and stability in the Notts back line.

Previous clubs include West Ham, Coventry City, Norwich City, Bournemouth and Blackburn Rovers, plus numerous loan spells including at Huddersfield Town and the old rivals Nottingham Forest.
