Oxford United adds goal-scoring playmaker Rúben Rodrigues to squad

It’s not the biggest step up, but fair play to him. He wanted a change and I don’t blame him. He helped massively to get Notts up into League Two and for that, I respect his decision to move. Despite it being sad to see him leave!

Oxford United isn’t the most exciting team for him to join. Will he make a big impact there? I think so, but they don’t have the quality to mount a serious Championship push in my eyes and I think he will need time to adapt to seeing better players playing against him.

They have signed a cracking player who can give them an edge in League One. I think Oxford will be in the running for the playoffs, maybe upper mid-table, but Ruben now has the chance to push on with his career. I just hope they don’t end up selling him for a silly fee, as we have clearly lost out.

Good luck to him against Oxford. I think the step up might end up disappointing Ruben. I hope for his sake he’s made the right decision to join them. I thought he might have left for Derby or gone back to the Dutch leagues.

Ruben will be just fine at Oxford United. They have been a good League One team and he will have weighed things up.

It does look to be a good signing for Oxford United but potentially a mistake on Ruben’s part. I hope they can get the best out of him and he can make his dream move at the peak of his career, but I don’t see it being so merry. I can see him dragging out his contract wishing he had signed elsewhere.

Oxford United fans will be hanging on our every word, so we should be mindful not to praise Ruben too much. Leave them guessing! He’s a good player; they’ve done well to snap him up and get him to commit. I did think he would go to a bigger club - no disrespect to Oxford, but League One is about right for them.

From Oxford United’s point of view, they have a player who can score and assist. He should do well with them. I am saddened to see him leave, but I reserve my feelings for the forum discussion.

some great points mentioned, if i was an oxford united fan i would be delighted to get ruben on a free. people might think its a big step up from national league but he did that convincingly, he should get more time on the ball and turn he should be able to use it more wisely. I am disappointed to see him go, not with him but because notts needs to make sure players are leaving on fees rather frees.

we had plenty of time to talk him into signing a new deal, even if it was just another season. good luck to him though.

Oxford has stolen many Notts fans’ hearts, but Ruben was always going to leave sooner rather than later. He has given the peak of his career to us, so he deserves to spend the remainder of his prime chasing his dreams.

Oxford United should be a good fit for Ruben Rodrigues. It’s interesting that Jodi Jones has come this way and Ruben their way. I think with Jodi’s age, we have the better deal, but I would have liked to see him a bit longer.

Good signing for Oxford; I do wonder if the club knew or reacted to them breaking the news as it was all very quick. It looks like Ruben was in Portugal, as I saw a video of him wishing us all the best. I repeat that and wish him the same!

Reading what Ruben has to say takes much of the “why Oxford United” from my mind. I don’t know what type of football they play in League One. Yet to get the best out of Ruben, they need to avoid hoofing it. He improved as our passing play did; the quicker we knocked it around on the ground, the more he stood out.

Oxford United fans should be happy because Ruben is outstanding. A very good player, one who should excel in League One. Good luck to him.
