Richard Dryden has played down reports of Alan Smith leaving Notts County, insisting that he is still in the squad for now.

Plymouth Argyle have reportedly offered Smith a deal until the end of next season, with the 35-year-old keen to extend his playing career before moving into coaching.

A photo emerged on Wednesday of what appeared to be Smith walking alongside Pilgrims manager Derek Adams in the Devon city.

Dryden, however, told reporters on Thursday: "Alan is in the squad.

"Alan is Alan. He comes in and works hard, people look up to him as a leader.

"He's going to be involved with us from now until the end of the season hopefully. I take it he is still going to be here."

I'm not really bothered, I just hope if he remains we will see him more as a coach type role and someone to help the youngsters apply themselves - as he could be great for that. If he still hopes to play, it's either best he does join Plymouth or he accepts whatever the manager can get out of him.

Richard may be wishful thinking here though.

i think nobody really cares if he stays or goes, just provided he gives notts 100% whilst hes here.

his legs have gone more than his desire tho.

I cannot say I am all that bothered, his best years are behind him and this was the case last time he had worn a black & white shirt.

He has contributed but little, good attitude and a proper footballer.

Yet we do not need any uncertainly, so for that reason if he wants to leave, Notts should make it known that he can because he can focus on who can be apart of this seasons squad.
