Rod McDonald Eager to Reunite with Former Teammates at Notts County

Rod McDonald is confident that a solid foundation is being laid for a successful season at Meadow Lane.

The defender has been clear about his goal to add a third League Two promotion to his résumé after joining Notts County from Harrogate Town.

He remarked: “When you look at the players who are already here, and add the players the club has brought in this summer, the potential to achieve promotion is there.

“I really believe in the plans the gaffer has outlined for the season ahead and hopefully we’ll be able to implement them on the pitch.

“For me, it’s massive to be part of such an exciting project at a club of this size.”

McDonald is eager to reunite with two former teammates after making the move to Meadow Lane.

He commented: “I played with Jodi Jones at Coventry, so I know what he’s about. When you have someone like him to give the ball to, you’ve always got a chance of creating something.

“I also played with Cedwyn Scott at Carlisle. He’s an instinctive striker who can score from half a chance. It’s exciting to be playing alongside them both again.

“Neal Ardley was my old Wimbledon manager, so I’ve always kept an eye on Notts.

“I scored my first EFL goal here, for Northampton, and I remember looking around at the stadium and asking myself how this club was in League Two.

“It was obviously sad to then see the club go on to get relegated – but now I don’t think there’s another club at this level with a more exciting future.”

McDonald views himself as a defender proficient in both aspects of the game and is eager to compete for his spot in the team.

He stated: “If you want to get promoted, you need competition all over the pitch. It keeps everyone on their toes.

“I’ve been involved in teams who play out from the back at various clubs, so I’m excited to be a part of that here – but first and foremost my mind is on keeping the ball out of the net.

“I’m buzzing to be here and will be carrying that into pre-season.”

McDonald's acquisition by Notts County is quite exciting! His experience from Harrogate Town, coupled with his familiarity with Jodi Jones and Cedwyn Scott, should make for some cohesive team play. It’s also heartening to hear him speak so highly of the club's plans. Clearly, he’s committed to making an impact, and his competitive nature is just what the team needs. His dual focus on defence and attacking play is refreshing and will bring stability to the squad. Notts fans have a lot to look forward to this season, and McDonald’s enthusiasm is definitely contagious.

I think this signing is a masterstroke by Notts County. Rod McDonald brings a wealth of experience and a winning mentality, which are pivotal for a successful campaign. Reuniting with players he has previously played with, like Jodi Jones and Cedwyn Scott, could create some exciting on-field dynamics. It's fantastic that he sees the potential in the squad and believes in the gaffer’s vision. What stands out most for me is his balanced approach to the game, focusing on both playing out from the back and strong defence. Here’s to hoping this translates into a memorable season for the fans and the club!

Glad he knows the players here. It should be helpful, but he's a good player and would adapt quickly anyway. I'm pleased he's with us now!

The club did a good interview. I'm impressed with Rod McDonald and how he came across. With a good pre-season to get our fitness levels up and help the new players settle in, we can make progress.

He talks well doesn’t he it sounds like he has the right attitude and hopefully will fit in well especially as he knows a few players from his previous clubs.

I’m looking forward to see him play.

Another excellent signing for Notts. Rod is an experienced league 2 player with leadership skills too, which will benefit Notts especially in our defensive unit.

It was a fantastic interview with Rod McDonald and I loved his attitude

He knows the Notts players and is eager for the new season to begin with his new teammates

I am sure that Rod is going to settle into his new surroundings very well and he will become an important and influential player in our team.

I'm not saying this to be negative, as I think it's a superb signing. It might not be the most glamorous, but don't doubt for a second what he brings. He's a quality player and speaks very well. Once he puts on our shirt and gets a few games, those doubters should love him.
