Ruben Rodrigues bids farewell to Meadow Lane as exits Notts County

PON_News

Ruben Rodrigues has announced his departure from Meadow Lane after a three-year stint.

The 26-year-old Portuguese player has been a crucial member of the team since joining from the Netherlands in 2020. During his time at the club, he made a significant impact on and off the pitch, earning the respect and admiration of both fans and teammates.

He played an instrumental role in last season’s promotion, scoring the goal that led to the play-off final being decided on penalties.

Despite being offered the chance to extend his contract, which was due to expire this summer, Rodrigues has chosen to seek new opportunities.

A statement from the club’s board of directors reads: "We would like to express our gratitude to Ruben for his outstanding contribution to the club since joining us in 2020.

"By choosing to join us, he made a courageous decision to leave his family and friends behind and pursue his career in a foreign country. He can certainly be proud of his achievements.

“Although we made a very attractive offer to keep him at the club, we respect his decision and wish him all the best for the future. He will be missed.”

Rodrigues’ departure marks the end of a successful chapter at Meadow Lane. His contributions on and off the pitch will be fondly remembered by fans and teammates alike. As he embarks on his next adventure, we wish him all the best and look forward to seeing what he achieves in the future.

It’s a shame to see such a good player go, but Notts can find a replacement. I think we have found one in David McGoldrick, although he may not be a long-term solution. I am happy, yet still sad to see Ruben leave. I would like to thank him for his contributions, laughter and amazing skills which brought delight to us Notts fans. I wish him well at Oxford United.

we knew this was going to happen but it was a case to who, i would have rather seen him join derby county. hes a good player but did have his inconsistent moments that all players do have. i am hoping sam austin will get the push to be the long term replacement, i dont think we need to go out and sign someone to fill this especially with david mcgoldrick signing.

I am disappointed that he has left for Oxford United. It’s not the biggest step up and I would have thought we could push for promotion. In the end, it should all work out. Ruben Rodrigues has been a vital player for Notts and that is something he will have left behind.

I think Ruben will always be in Notts fans hearts, he’s shown some incredibly classy skills whilst at Notts. Thank you Ruben and good luck in the future, I’ll be following your career with interest. If you ever play at Meadow Lane again with Oxford you’ll get a huge welcome.

I wish Ruben all the best. I think after his night out with the lads, it seemed like a final goodbye because he just went for it. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s still not hungover. 😆

He was a good player for Notts. His smart play and tricks will be missed, but I don’t think we will be lacking in quality. We have always seemed to improve with our new recruitment and, whilst he leaves a big gap and some hefty boots to fill, someone else will step up. Onwards to League One, the Notts go!

He sure knows how to have a good time and let his hair down. He drank some strong alcohol too. No wonder he was extremely drunk. Ha ha ha!!

Farewell Ruben. You have given us the best three years of your playing career and scored many wonderful goals. Without touching upon your other contributions, all the best with moving on.

I fully understand his decision to leave; I expected it at the end of the season and I think he deserves a chance to play at a higher level. I think his decision to choose Oxford is down to extending his game time; he’s no spring chicken.

Players come and go; provided they leave behind some form of legacy and memory, they will have contributed to the club. It’s a shame in one way that we didn’t get promoted sooner, as he may have stuck around, but who knows for sure? The moment we went up could have been the moment he left. I wonder if he would have still decided to leave had Notts not won the playoffs?

Since our time in the Non-League, Ruben has been the brightest light when it comes to his ambition and fight; he has shown pure determination and I wish him nothing but success. I hope the move to Oxford United works out for him.

Just reading all the comments, you can see what it means to the fans and how Ruben has touched us all. He leaves with my kindness. I will remember him getting the better of most teams quite fondly.

Naturally, he’s one of the players you want to see remain at the club for the longest time possible. Considering where we are now compared to when he arrived, I think those 3 years have been kind to us. We could have lost him the last time his contract was up, but he committed. Now’s the time to cut him loose and hope he does the right thing.

It’s always sad to see a good player leave, even worse when you look up to them or rate them highly. He’s made a decision to leave based on his own aspirations and it’s hard to allow the sadness to become bitter. Not for a player like Ruben. I have enjoyed watching him play when I have been able to watch games remotely.
