Match Report: McGoldrick’s Last-Minute Heroics Secure Dramatic Draw for Notts in Derby Thriller

Tough match but some positive takeaways, I think. We played with great intensity, which is always encouraging to see. It’s clear that the team has a strong foundation, and while we didn’t manage to get the win, I feel we’re getting closer to where we need to be. Chesterfield was strong defensively, and a few calls didn’t go our way, which was frustrating. I loved the effort from players like Crowley and Abbott, you could see they were giving everything. The season’s still young, so I’m optimistic. If we keep playing like this, the wins will come.

Can’t fault the lads for effort, but sometimes we lack that clinical edge to put games to bed. Chesterfield was always going to be a tough match, but we actually looked the better side for much of it. We had the chances and probably deserved at least a draw, but football doesn’t always work that way. It’s games like these where we miss someone who can just break through and score with half a chance. The fans were brilliant, and I’m sure the players appreciated that. Let’s take this as a lesson and move on to the next one.

Officiating was questionable again, but we should have buried our chances. Onward to the next match!

I think that a draw is a fair result. Notts went at their absolute best, but they managed to get a draw out of it at the death, to preserve their unbeaten away record this season.

Notts are certainly creating chances, especially in that first half, getting plenty of crosses into the box, they just need to be more incisive in the top half of the field.

It's an interesting statistic that Jatta & McGoldrick have played 75 minutes together this season, & Notts have scored 5 goals & conceded 0.

Is there a case that they should be playing together from the start? Maynard didn't rule that out in the future. 

I think it would be a good move if they did play together. They would be a very potent strike partnership.

That was a hard game to watch, mostly because we had so many chances but just couldn’t finish them. Chesterfield’s defence deserves credit for holding us off, but I think we gave them far too much space at times. It’s tough when we dominate the ball but can’t seem to get it in the net. It was hard not to feel frustrated by the officiating. I know these things happen, but it feels like we’re on the wrong end of decisions too often.

That said, I’m still proud of the team. They’re putting in the effort, and you can see the potential for something special this season. The energy on the pitch was fantastic, and the fans’ support has been massive. If we keep this up and tighten up a few areas, I have no doubt the results will come.

I think we should see the point as a blessing, as the goals we conceded were quite disappointing. I'm pleased that we were able to salvage a point from the match.

It was a relief when David McGoldrick scored, although it wasn't without concern. I believe the official could have allowed play to continue when Jatta scored. The handball wasn't intentional and didn't affect the game, but giving the penalty did give them an opportunity. Their goalkeeper performed well, but thankfully we had some luck, and McGoldrick managed to score on the second attempt. We need to stay focused and keep working hard; I hope we can start a winning streak soon.

good game, a natural would have enjoyed it. i think we did okay, their first goal was just a fluke with how the ball bounced for paddy madden. thought we looked better out wide, but it was good to see crowley having goes from distant.

Definitely missing Macaulay Langstaff. Gillingham and Port Vale should have been 6 points to us, but we are lacking the killer instinct. Brown appears to be a waste of space from what I've seen of him so far. Hopefully if we are still pushing for promotion come January we may be able to get a good goalscorer on board. 

Frustrating match to watch. Missed chances and some tough calls, but the lads will learn and come back stronger.

Honestly, I think we showed some real grit despite the result. We dominated possession, created decent chances, and I loved the energy on the pitch, especially from Gordon and Abbott. It's just disappointing we couldn’t get past a team that, on paper, we probably should have. Sometimes, it just doesn’t fall our way, but the team is playing well, and I’m optimistic for the rest of the season. We’ve got the talent, we’ve got the passion, and with a bit more luck, I believe we’ll start turning these performances into wins. We move on, heads held high!

It was a good game with both sides battling hard to come out on top, a typical blood and thunder Derby in front of a good sized crowd. A draw was a fair result but Notts will be the happier especially as we snatched a draw late into the game.

onwards and upwards, we’ll be there or thereabouts at the end of the season I’m convinced of that.

It's good that David McGoldrick was fit enough to play. His partnership with Jatta is encouraging. The draw is what we could have expected going into the game. The first goal was unlucky and their second was due to extremely poor defending. Notts did enough to get something from the game. I'm just pleased Didzy managed to score at the second attempt.
