When I first started work in the lace trade as a gopher(go for this,go for that) one of the tasks I had to do was take a large locked case  containing mail  to the Post Office on Huntingdon Street and return with any mail waiting collection.A guy behind the counter would unlock the case and swap the mail over.So it's quite possible I may have met @tonyhateley's or @PTID 1862's fathers.

Its getting warmer down here, quite pleasant today actually. I will be making my way to Stevenage on saturday, which no doubt it will be raining! It always rains when I go to their ground.

I not sure whether we have had this conversation before @super_ram but you know I have got the memory of a gold fish so bear with me.

Where did you work in the Lace Trade? When I first met Mrs. H. she worked in the Lace Market at J. B. Walker's as a receptionist (you know sitting at a desk with phone and doing her nails all day :) ). Do you know of Walkers did you ever have to go there as a gopher? It's possible you met her if you did.

I worked for a firm called Simon,May on Weekday Cross-I think it's a restaurant now. This was September 1963 to March 1964, when I went into the lace export department and worked with a chap called Albert 'Bram' Bramley who was a massive Notts fan-lovely bloke..I worked for S,M until 1997 and did occasionally visit other firms, among them being J B Walker's.So although '63/4 was probably too early for Mrs.H it is possible I met her later.I like your description of receptionists. In my experience they appeared to be either old and crotchety, old and maternal or young and a bit dizzy  or young and very helpful.I'm sure Mr H. was in the last category. My favourite errand was to The Chamber of Commerce.I often had to sit and wait for a Certificate of Origin and would pass my time waiting by enjoying watching all the girls in their mini skirts.

Mrs H says she was the young helpful one.

She worked there from 72 to 78, she remembers visiting Simon May when her photocopier broke and they let her use theirs. So if you saw her she was 18 very slim bordering on thin with long auburn hair, wore a mini skirt just below her bum and kinky black boots up to her knees.
