Notts County's youth team arrived at Doncaster this morning with the knowledge that a win by two goals would send the young 'Pies to the top of the table on goal difference.

Notts fell a goal behind after fifteen minutes when their keeper completely missed a clearance from a back pass as the ball bobbled past him and into the net.

Doncaster held the lead for less than ten minutes when a run down the right wing by Luther Wilding followed by a quality cross was met by Colby Bishop who side-footed home just inside the near post.

Doncaster came on strong in the second half and a second error by the Notts keeper resulted in a goalmouth scramble from which the home team regained the lead.

On 65 minutes Notts went 1-3 down with a breakaway goal with the Doncaster forward chipping the advancing Notts keeper.

Notts lost 1-3 in a fairly even and well contested game.  A bit harsh perhaps but two goalkeeping errors were the difference between the two teams.

What a shame. Maybe next time they'll cut out the errors like you say. Bishop sounds like a real find and I'm eager to see him hit the squad next year.

Thanks for the report.

@shepshedpie thank you for that, agree shame about the errors leading to that result, but give em time, if we can unearth 3 or 4 real nuggets, then things will be grand

Youth team football is all about set backs.

If they didn't make errors, they wouldn't learn and when the coaches show them the videos of the game they'll get a better understanding than they would say they talked about it. From what I've read and been told, we have some decent prospects which is good. I am sure the young magpies will bounce back - we have a decent setup which is improving all the time.

Hopefully we can find another striker like Colby Bishop who can score many goals.

Thanks for the feedback shep.
