England v Republic of Ireland tonight then in an International "friendly". To be honest, I always struggle to muster up any enthusiasm for England international matches these days, especially friendlies. They're always so dull and lethargic, and generally pointless.

 

Still, I'll watch tonight. Nothing else on, who else is watching?

 

I hope the game passes without incident. Let's hope tommorow's headlines are about the football match and not chants from the crowd

I prefer England internationals to European club matches, I will watch it (wife permitting), I hope it's a good match and as you say Weymouth makes headlines for the right reasons.

I agree with both above (same here Tony regarding wife) There's a bit of added interest for me with 3 Rams players in the RoI squad.

I think I might turn the sound down though.

Well what a borefest that was. Very little creativity from England, we had absolutely no idea how to break down a half decent defence, we gave the ball away far too cheaply and there was no real energy about the performance. Same old England really, we're so predictable it's becomming  a bit of a joke now.

Until we have an actual system we won't get anywhere. Who could work out our game plan tonight? It seemed to be a case of just put it in that area and hope for the best. Granted, ROI's keeper made a couple of good stops but did we really deserve to win? Not really I don't think.

 

I know everybody bangs on about the Germans but their example is there to be followed. They  pretty much ripped up the rule-book and started from scratch, we need to do the same. Stop choosing players on merit and start choosing them on form for a start, I mean what did Wayne Rooney do in that game? If he's Englands main 'superstar' then god help us.

It all starts at the club and national academies. Start creating players with supreme talent rather than big bullys. I read something the other day which blew me away. I cant remember the exact numbers but it was that Germany currently has around 50,000 UEFA A licence qualified coaches whereas England has less than 1500. So really I suppose it starts with the quality of the coaching.

 

In a competetive game, anybody would rip us apart because we're simply too predictable, teams can guess how we're gonna play.

 

Sorry, I know this has turned into another rant from me. I have very little interest in the England national team but watching that game I got quiye p****d off simply because it turned out exacly how I thought it would do.

I lasted until 20 minutes from the end then decided to switch off and read my kindle instead.

The Ireland goal was worth seeing it reminded me of the real Tony Hateley.

It was a good goal, Tony and yes just like the real Tony but there used to be a few forwards capable of scoring with powerful headers.Where are they now? I can only think of Andy Carroll.

Welcome back Joe, missed your posts, hope the kids have been behaving this half term and that the physio went well.

They've been good, enjoyed the time and break with them. Physio is starting to become bearable now, I enjoy it but it takes it out of you. I'm just unfit LOL

We've had our two grandsons to look after during half term, normally George the eldest goes to nursery but it was closed, they are so full of beans, they come bouncing in at 7.30 am so excited and they are on the go all day, it's exhausting be we love 'em to bits and wouldn't have it any other way.

 

They are coming on holiday with us with their Mum and Dad so it will be a bit of a busman's holiday for us.

 

Don't see too much of the other two grandchildren since their Dad died but it's great when we do, they really throw themselves at us when they visit and we get lots of hugs and cuddles.

I.m now recovering after having Jake, Ellie and Ava for most of the day.The weather has been lovely so they've been in the garden most of the time. Apart from a couple of little squabbles they've been really good and the older two have been really good with Ava. I even managed to mow the lawns and they kept out of my way.They never shut up though, questions, questions, questions. It's great though, to have the garden filled with laughter (and no idiot neighbours)

Brilliant, I love it when the kids ask questions, its the way they learn George our 4 year old's favourite word is "why". Why have I got to wash my hands before dinner? Why do I have to take my shoes off before I come in the house? I always try to answer in a way that he will learn something.

 

I used to help my wife who was a childminder a while back and used to take kids to school, we used to have some great conversations with them, funny ones and embarrassing ones too, like the time when a 5 year old piped up in a loud voice "Look at that lady, she's really fat!". I didn't know where to put my face, I just said "Oh, that's a bit rude you shouldn't say that", the lady in question just smiled but it was so embarrassing.
