King's Lynn Pitch

I was checking on Torquay's forum to see their thoughts on dropping points to Kings Lynn and found an interesting thread:

https://torquayfans.com/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=13008&start=30

"Any top team that plays on a pitch that has a resemblance to a ploughed field will affect the quality, skills and technique of the players. Maybe that is why Kings Lynn are charging astronomical prices for match viewing so as to try and divert a little more funding towards laying a proper playing surface."

Ouch. Looks like our game there on boxing day won't exactly be a spectacle and more of a struggle on a rubbish pitch. Non-league, innit.

Highlights from Torquay here:

You can hear the mud squelching as the players run, even with fans in the stadium.

People forget what the conditions of grounds were like in the 70s, 80s and even early 90s.

Its often used as an excuse to blame the pitch for poor conditions, I haven't seen King Lynn's pitch but aside that has won 2 back-to-back promotions I am not really sure what people expect. It was interesting to hear first hand from their chairman thanks to appearing on @TheMagpieCircle - he spoke about the streaming setup and, hopes to have a state-of-art pitch. Whilst poor pitches do effect play, I think we had this issue against Solihull Moors last season [fact-checker required] - you don't know until the games played.

I suspect Neal Ardley will try to amend our tactics a little if the conditions do have some impact.

That said, you can still play football on any type of pitch and, still play with excitement.

I don't think we need to worry, if a gritty 1-0 win comes our way - who will care?
