Scouting Report: Notts County should take advantage of defensively lacklustre Macclesfield Town
Notts County can make it three wins on the spin, and claim their first three-point haul of the season, should they be victorious at Moss Rose on Saturday when Harry Kewell's boys face struggling new boys Macclesfield Town. Pride of Nottingham's Chris has analysed the opposition and written up this in-depth scouting report with views on how best not to get stuck in a web against the Silkmen. Run-down of their last six fixtures Saturday 1st September β Crewe Alexandra 3 Macclesfield 0 Saturday 8th September β Stevenage 1 Macclesfield Town 0 Saturday 15th September β Macclesfield 1 Lincoln City 2 Saturday 22nd September β Morecambe 2 Macclesfield Town 1 Saturday 29th September β Macclesfield Town 1 Forest Green Rovers 1 Tuesday 2nd October β Newport County 3 Macclesfield Town 3 The Players β Fact Sheet Highest Goal Scorers; Michael Rose 3, Danny Whitaker 2, Jamie Grimes 2 and Koby Arthur 2. Persistent Foulers; Michael Rose 1 red card, Peter Vincenti 2 yellow card, Tyrone Marsh 2 yellow cards and Scott Wilson 2 yellow cards. The Key Players In midfield Koby Arthur can get his side going, heβs a technical midfielder who likes to use the ball and to run at the opposition. His ability to pick out a pass but also lead the midfield line is a main focus for Macclesfield Town. Up-top Tyrone Marsh, Scott Wilson and Nathan Blissett all have the ability to naturally draw players onto marking them, they can rotate much like Enzio Boldewijn and Lewis Alessandra do β which can prove tricky. Neither of the three players should be allowed any sort of room in the box, as they can excel and create chances if this happens. On the left side of defence, David Fitzpatrick is a player who likes to get forward as much as possible. His ability to attack but also defend makes him a useful opposition player to aware of, he will most likely try to float crosses and balls into the forward front line. Style of Play, Strengths, and Weaknesses Macclesfield Town appear to invite pressure onto themselves by the way that Mark Yates has his team set up, they look a capable side but failure to mark tightly does allow for their opposition to thrive when going forward. Defensively, they seem to have no one taking responsibility for all the basic aspects of the game. Thereβs no one pressing, marking or trying to win the ball back from the highlights that I have seen β they seem to rely too much on their keeper to make the saves. Going forward they seem to be more focused, however many of their chances that they create seem to be down to luck or hope as opposed to having an actual creative outlet. The idea seems to be however best to get the ball in the box, where they do have players capable of punishing teams. They look particularly vulnerable from set pieces, which is something that Notts can make the most of. Macclesfield are more than capable of creating good efforts, itβs more a case of pressure and scrappy play on their part that lets them down. As a team they can score, so nobody should underestimate them but Harry Kewellβs defence should be more than capable of dealing with them. Provided they reduce the opportunity to run with the ball or strike from it from distance, it should be a fairly basic task on paper. Whereas Notts must look to get the down the flanks, using the aerial threat as a way to get chances a way and the players must be brave when it comes to showing what I would describe as Non-League defending. Itβs going to be a difficult game, much of the fortune and outcome will rely on retaining the hard-working attitude we have seen as of late. I feel the game may be scrappy more than entertaining, however adapting and being prepared would favour Notts I feel. Video Discussion: Under 23 Highlights: Newcastle 2-1 Notts County
That Notts goal was class! There's not much else I feel I can add but that play for 2-1 was a very good move.

Match Discussion: Game 12 - The Silkmen (A)
I'm not expecting or predicting a win, I think it's very likely that it will be a draw. 2-2 would be my guess with Hemmings and Hewitt scoring. I very much hope I'm wrong and that Notts can grab the third back-to-back win but it just seems a little too much. Harry Kewell has spoken about how winning breeds confidence and how the players enjoy playing, so there's every chance but I just feel realistically both teams should cancel each other out.

Hopefully the game will be well supported, I won't be there personally but it's nice that Notts will be the hosts.

Harry Kewell happy with Notts County trajectory but warns of "blood, sweat and tears" to maintain momentum
The club seems to be playing with confidence and a fighting spirit right now, I think things will naturally pick up but I am curious about any knock backs. I hope the players are able to respond positively if we hit a bit of a wobble, otherwise I just hope we can kick on now. Harry Kewell's made a huge difference already.

Match Discussion: Game 12 - The Silkmen (A)
I think the Macclesfield game may be more difficult with each time cancelling out the play, either that or it will be very scrappy. Notts seems to be playing with a cool head now, they seem to know what they have to do and getting hold of the game seems something they are more than capable at doing. I do feel Notts will play well, at least I hope and I am looking forward to going to the game. Whatever the outcome, I have faith that the clubs going in the right direction.

Faces of PON: Fans overjoyed as Notts County see off Crawley Town
Following the 2-1 win over Crewe Alexandra at the weekend, Notts County followed it up with an even more impressive 3-1 victory over Harry Kewell's former employers Crawley Town. Kane Hemmings and Jon Stead had the Magpies two up at half-time, even though the Red Devils arguably enjoyed quite a bit of good play and had their chances. Although Rob Milsom - incidentally on loan from the opposition - was sent off 66 minutes for a late lunge, substitute Nathan Thomas added a third goal to effectively seal all three points, much to the delight of the Black & White Army. Dominic Poleon nabbed a consolation in injury-time, but the evening would belong to Kewell and his boys, who now have eight points from their last four and two wins on the spin - quite a turnaround. Pride of Nottingham was at the San Sirrel for the occasion - see if you've made it into the midweek Faces of PON! Match Discussion: Game 11 - Red Devils (H)
@Piethagoram Crawley's 22 should have been sent off. Plus the referee and match officials missed a clear punch which is violent conduct, then again I noticed several elbows and fist punches into the back of Notts players. It was very frustrating but Notts played very well. The performance was superb and I felt we handled them very well. They didn't have much of a threat and their shooting was woeful, there was chances a better team would have finished but Notts deserved the win.

Match Discussion: Game 11 - Red Devils (H)
I want to see further signs of progress, things right now are paying off and if Notts go into the game thinking one or two steps ahead of Crawley Town - I think we'll take the game to them. The key is midfield! I am also nervous about Enzio playing, it wouldn't surprise me if they come hard hitting and attempt to disrupt the play as much as possible. The game has to be played on the deck, we are starting to grow from doing. Also, I would throw David Vaughan back into the squad. Save some space for the weekend and don't let the key players get tired, start a strong squad but give some others a chance.

Video Discussion: Highlights: Notts County 2-1 Crewe Alexandra
I didn't realise until now that our goal was similar to the Crewe goal, yes a fair bit different but similar all the same. The cross from Evina was perfect, he had done several in the game. It's quite impressive.

Video Discussion: Post-Crewe: Rob Milsom
Pretty standard stuff, nothing I can really point out or comment on. I think we all sensed that 3 points was in the pipeline but credit to Crewe for giving us a game.

Video Discussion: Post-Crewe: Harry Kewell
I still find it hard to listen to Harry Kewell, he spoken better this time but referring to Crewe's players as 'little' and I know he means young but it just seems a bit cringeworthy. He reads the games well though and he's starting to see how he can adjust when it needs to be done.

Match Discussion: Game 10 - The Alex (H)
I felt Notts started brilliantly and until Crewe scored, I felt the game would be fairly simple but the mistake (which no one can be blamed for) resulted the lead being taken away. It was awkward watching Notts after that, and despite Crewe looking quite comfortable with drawing - I couldn't help but feel someone needed to take the game and attempt to change it. I think in the first half we was somewhat lucky Crewe didn't take the lead. I warned that they had a good midfield that worked hard, they had two fairly capable strikers and moved the ball nicely. Second half Notts just dominated and the win was deserved. I'm very pleased they kept battling at it. It's a very good performance but it could have been much difference if the team had worked harder in the first half.

Video Discussion: Career Quiz: Jon Stead
Brilliant idea by the club, it's funny and entertaining. You seen this @NcfcT4?

Video Discussion: Kewell: Crewe (H)
He gotten a little defensive with how he said that the previous manager had his way of doing things, I don't mind listening to Harry. I just feel he sounds more American than Australian myself.

Match Discussion: Game 10 - The Alex (H)
I'm going for a 3-1 Notts. Stead, Dennis and Thomas to score. I think it will start off pretty even at 1-1, then the second half will see Notts progress and claim the win. It would be great to see them lead 2-0 but my nerves wouldn't take Crewe pegging us back by 1 goal.

PONcast Episode 43: Northampton Town, Crewe Alexandra and Elliot Hewitt form
Hello and welcome to episode 43 of the Pride of Nottingham PONcast, presented by Chris and Sam. In this week's episode we discuss Notts County's 0-0 draw at the Sixfields stadium against Northampton Town. We talk about the fighting spirit shown by the Magpies in claiming just their third point of the season, plus analysis of the overall performance along with the effect on confidence in the County camp. In addition we touch upon the club's injury list, how we foresee those players doing once returning to the squad selection and talk about the likes of Elliott Hewitt, who seems a shadow of the player he was last season. Finally, we look ahead to the weekend's fixture at Meadow Lane against Crewe Alexandra. All this and more only in episode 43 of the Pride of Nottingham PONcast! Match Discussion: Game 10 - The Alex (H)
It's going to be a lively encounter. I'm a little nervous that we might feel we can pass Crewe off the park and I honestly don't feel it's that simple. I think we will have to control the game and slow it down at times just to find the pass to create good chances. I fully expect Crewe to focus on playing the ball on the ground, with pressing down the flanks. They play tidy football and for me their weaknesses are found at the back. They don't have the strongest keeper, yet neither do we so far. This is going to be close unless we break them.

Match Reaction: Northampton Town 0-0 Notts County
Positive point and step in the right direction. Either team could have won, so it seems fair. Time to start clawing our way up the table! COYP

Match Discussion: Game 9 - The Cobblers (A)
I am more than happy with the direction of the club, it seems the defence and Ross Fitzsimons are making head way. I am happy that Ross did well yesterday, I'll give credit when it's due and I'm not afraid of that. It sounded like Notts may have been a little too defensive but this will come with time. The positives are there, the draw is a good one and I am pleased that the travelling fans (I wished I could have been there) had some sort of reward. It's time to look up and get behind the squad I think.

Match Discussion: Game 9 - The Cobblers (A)
That's the most promising sign about the game, I hope they come out more determined to get that needed goal and then we can shut up the shop.

Notts County: Our youth system
Notts does well then they take their feet of the gas. There's no real pathway and the competition isn't that good, most cases the experience isn't gained and the potential ends up getting lost. We can't rush youngsters, something that tends to happen and if they don't impress in their first year as a professional they end up being released. This is why a development squad is beneficial because you can retain them and give them the proper training required to learn the game. There's a huge difference between playing at Meadow Lane in from of thousands of fans, sometimes the mental side of the game takes much longer to shine and it comes with experience. Notts needs to learn to feed the right youngsters into the Non League so they can adapt. It would be nice to see them coming into the first team squad, yet there's a reason why we don't see it happening. Hopefully with Paul Hart back, this might improve because the club should try to get his experience throughout the club.

Match Discussion: Game 9 - The Cobblers (A)
I really hope Harry Kewell has a solid plan on how to attack Northampton and defend, the plan needs to be adaptable and he shouldn't wait until we concede to make these changes required. Go in positively and avoid conceding early, allow the players to grow in confidence. 3-1 is my score prediction for Notts. Stead, Hemmings and Ward to score.
