  1. If we can make some more solid signings, I see no reason why we couldn't compete for an automatic spot but if the squad remains like this - I think playoffs would be more likely. We have the quality that could potentially do better, I just think without that extra depth we may struggle at times like we did last season. This is the season where we need to go further and try to secure a playoff place or higher. Should we fall short, I wouldn't be that disappointed provided we gave our all and that we finish higher than we did last season. Progress can only be made by challenging ourselves to go that extra bit further.
  2. Marc Guehi deserves to be named; he played far better than Kyle Walker. Walker had a good tournament, but there were elements of his game where he wasn't at his best - at 34, you expect this. Marcel Sabitzer and Georges Mikautadze would have made my team of the tournament; both players did well for their respective countries. Spain had a very good campaign, but some of their players are only being named because they made the final and won. Some did well but don't deserve to be selected ahead of others.
  3. I haven't really done anything outside since Sunday, but I feel good, which is a nice thing. I have been working on PON, going through my list of things to do and generally trying to keep things well maintained. Tomorrow, I will be allowed out for some time and I will be on my best behaviour. Cheeky needs to look for a few things and so it means I get to accompany her. It's nothing special, but I do like getting out when its possible. I keep trying to talk Jake into having walks, but he's unwell himself at the moment.
  4. I have seen the footage numerous times. When I was younger, I felt amazed when I first watched the game in colour. As all the footage before was shown in black and white. Here's a great read about what happened to the shirts after the final whistle had blown - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-63703479 @super_ram likes to tell me, that England lost to Scotland in the very next game after the World Cup final.
  5. I agree, it's a step too far to charge parents of a mass shooter with manslaughter. It's a worrying aspect, as a lot of people own guns, and they're a common place in America. I understand that parents would want to teach their child to safely use a gun, but it should be difficult for them to get hold of It's easier said than done, because it could have been a machete or knife. My friend, who is a teacher in Kansas City, posted on Facebook about how encouraging teachers to have a gun themselves for safety - in case of these incidents occurring - would only lead to further issues. America doesn't focus on the actual problem; they overthink it and come up with stupid ideas. Mass shootings are awful, and I know Steven King has felt responsible for his book 'Rage'. The way things are going, he was right to allow it to fall out of print because he could end up with silly charges brought against himself. This said, the parents should be held responsible as mentioned by @Robbie.
  6. Such a cool 'old school' styled stand. The arched middle part, at least, inspired the rebuild of Meadow Lane. That's such an iconic part of the Meadow Lane stadium that it wouldn't look right if it hadn't been. I also find it fascinating that it was delivered by floating it over the River Trent in 1910. I just couldn't imagine a stadium being dismantled and transported like that.
  7. Great video! Very funny that neither animal detected they were being watched/filmed. It caught something that you might not get to see otherwise. There's a squarrel that lives near my home, which is very funny. It does lapse of my front fence as part of its exercise, almost as if it was like the TV 'Wipeout' but without the water. One time it was doing it, I was sat in the living room looking out at the front garden and noticed there was a black cat stalking it. The Squarrel didn't bother, it just continued doing a circuit of the fence. The cat thought it was being clever by climbing the fence which is to the street, it was acting like it was just minding its own business. The Squarrel continued to run round the fences and along the front of my house, as it approached the cat, the cat jumped into the front garden again acting as if it was doing its own thing. The moment the squarrel reached the point where the cat had been, the cat jumped up and squarrel had reacted ahead, pushing itself up right and performing a martial art kick which would have been befitting to a scene from 'The Last Dragon'. It stunned the cat, and it flew off the fence. The Squarrel remained in an alert position but soon went off. The cat eventually jumped back onto the fence and acted like its pride had been hurt.
  8. Personally, I think Gareth Southgate did the right thing by stepping down. He's done well in his role, but the division between England fans and this past tournament performance despite making the final just hasn't been to standard. I would have been happy had he decided to remain in the position, but I think he knows that not all of his ideas on what makes England click are right. I also wouldn't be surprised if some of the attitude he has had made him feel he needed to step down on a high. It's sad, because some of the nonsense directed towards him isn't needed. Using sporting events as a reason to give another human abuse is just outright wrong. Unfortunately, it leaves me feeling disinterested and of the belief that the FA will struggle to find a suitable appointment that will please the majority of England fans. It's going to be a tough task, Lee Carsley wouldn't be a bad call, but I don't know much about his style of management.
  9. 1999-2004/5 I was very England focused, more so than Notts. It was difficult after my grandfather died to get to Notts games, still at school. I mostly checked on scores for Notts, but I wasn't as focused on them. I would watch Match of the Day religiously, and it was something we did as a family. Admittedly, I was still very much into Arsenal at this stage. So, England was an easy way to watch football, and we had big names that gave me the hope that we could do well in a major tournament. Not that the golden generation ever delivered this, but it was great seeing the likes of David Beckham, Steven Gerrard, Alan Shearer etc. I used to also always wear my England coat, and/or shirts. Now I am more focused on Notts, as I have aged I realise that football is more enjoyable to have that belief but to find more enjoyment from league football. So, I would choose Notts easily over England, but I care about them both.
  10. We just ignore them; it's very annoying. It's also horrible to do, as I briefly worked for a windows' company that used to send groups of 5–10 people out into areas trying to sell windows and doors. My parents had new windows themselves and the person handling the sale, ask @GrannyPie if my brother and I had jobs. It's by far the worst thing, but if you have the knack of talking and confidence, then it can pay very well. I don't waste my time with cold callers, or those people approaching you in the streets trying to sell stuff.
  11. Good luck to them with the upcoming season, I'll be keeping tabs on them and hopefully helping to spread awarness as suggested.
  12. I liked Darren Caskey, fans more knowledgable of his time at Notts always make me laugh when they tell me about him. Though, I thought he was a good footballer. I can't say I have seen him play for us many times though. Also, I remember this but never really dived into it.
  13. I think it was Russell Howard who joked about this awhile ago, when it was being reported. It's a silly thing to do, which issuing a ban is the right thing. Officials aren't there to be part of the celebrations or to even be in any sort of spotlight. There have been referees and assistants who have asked players for selfies, this is also something which shouldn't happen during officiating games. Fans need to be able to trust that there's no unbiasedness and act professional.
  14. Amazing location and design of the stadium, but I do echo the comments about traditional grounds like Goodison Park being missed. Imagine watching a night game in the Premier League. It looks amazing!
  15. Wordle 1,124 5/6
  16. Gareth Southgate has spoken twice about stepping down, although going into the Euros - it seemed likely that he would be standing by his word. I find it quite saddening because whilst he's not been perfect, he got the squad resembling a team we could be proud of. This tournament wasn't the best, perhaps the players knew? I can't suggest all the poor performances could have been down to nerves, wanting to end Southgate's reign as well as possible, but I would be mindful of it. I don't think who takes over next has much to do, but at the same time I don't have much enthusiasm that we'll be able to see who could come in. Most likely it will be a lacklustre appointment, I mean the candidates link already leaves me feeling like this.
  17. It's great to see Alassana Jatta back in the team and putting us 2-0 up so early. Also, I like that we are playing a squad that wouldn't be far from our starting XI. I assume, we'll still be making changes as each player does need to get some match fitness, but it's good to see that it's started off strongly. Jatta could be earning the number 9 shirt, although I would still give it to Cedwyn Scott. And both players are featuring together.
  18. There's nothing you can do when players are out of contract; you are once again competing for their signature. Crawley has made some good signings, Rushian Hepburn-Murphy is a quality player that at 25-years-old should only flourish. Gevan Holohan is also a very experienced player, that should do well. Likewise with Scott Malone, a decent defender and has a wealth of experience to help keep them in League One. Josh Flint is very much a signing we would make, along the lines of Ed Francis and Will Patching. Unproven, but has plenty of potential and was once held with high regard at Portsmouth - although I don't believe he made an appearance for them. It's disappointing to see a club newly promoted lose players, but it's not like they went out on purpose to rip it apart. Our first season back in League One, it was a mistake for us to gut the 09/10 squad. Crawley, and teams like them would always attract interest in their free agents and key players. Reinvesting and purchasing quality replacements is their own way of combating it. It's sad to see, but not much they can do.
  19. It had me loading the official site up. Good signing for them, it seems he'll be Paddy Madden's long term replacement.
  20. I remember seeing it in programmes, I swear there was a picture in one where Brain Stubbs was holding a County Cola. Don't click the attached link, if you can - read the comments. The link throws an error due to it being archived and old now.
  21. It's worth keeping in mind that Kellan Gordon played for Mansfield, until Crawley Town paid an undisclosed fee for him. I remember him doing quite well for the Stags, but no doubt he did more during his time with Crawley Town. At 26-years-old he has plenty of League Two experience, and I don't think he arrives as a squad member but someone who could play regularly if he puts in the performances. There are times when Aaron Nemane is inconsistent, when he plays a lot I do believe his form suffers and this can be the same for Jodi Jones. Although, I doubt Jones would want to miss a game. He'll push himself, whereas Nemane really does need a break to get him back to his best. It's a very good signing, when I noticed I was about to sit and eat - but I had to get the post out on PON's socials even though it was almost an hour later. I think the reactions by most fans shows this is a potential good move, he should do more than Will Randall and I think he'll connect with fans too.
  22. I know my dad was worried and thought something was off about his bid, it could have become a Munto like experience for them. Certainly managed to avoid a bad decision, which wouldn't have been a good thing for Derby. Thankfully, he wasn't able to prove he had the funds I believe. @super_ram will clarify.
  23. After my Grandather Ray died in 2000 I wasn't that much in the loop with watching games. I had started playing Championship Manager, which would later go on to become the Football Manager series. Tony Hackworth wasn't that bad on it. However, since doing PON I have had many comments about bad players expressed to me and Tony Hackworth tends to be one. I actually liked Tony Agana @Piethagoram, but I was a young kid watching him. I think the idea about signing someone like Hackworth was ambitious, but ultimately the wrong choice. The money could have been spent on two players that could have yielded better results.
  24. A future production for Aardman Animations or DreamWorks, A Tale of Vegetables on the Move.
  25. It really shouldn't be like this; if Spanish fans celebrate these incredible young talents then they shouldn't harbour any discrimination. I am sure they celebrated the achievements; there's just no need for racism.
