  1. @menzinho, brilliant read, mate! Not a bad introduction to writing a feature for PON. I look forward to reading more of what you have to say. As for this, I agree that defensively Notts look better, and it sounds like this was proven at Tranmere. With Darren Moore in League Two with Port Vale, they should be a force to be reckoned with. I also think Swindon should surprise people; they are a team that could easily flip their season.
  2. By all accounts, the draw is a good start. I think if a goal had gone in, it would have forced Tranmere to attack us more. I think a point is a good enough start. If we win on Saturday, we could be well on our way to starting a nice streak, which early on could be a massive thing.
  3. The start is a good number to begin with. I will have to dig deep to make up the ground, and I hope to achieve some reasonable results once I can join in with this.
  4. Good signing. He’s a very calm player, and when I heard we had signed him, I wondered how we managed to pull it off. I would have thought a League One team would have stumped up the cash to get him, but I do think MK Dons are guilty of signing players they want, not seeing things through, or giving them a fair chance before discarding them. It’s like throwing mud at the wall and seeing what sticks. I am pleased to welcome Conor Grant to Notts!
  5. Jeff Astle, although a player I have never seen play, I am aware of him and have enjoyed reading many “on this day” posts by PON over the years. The write-up is excellent and very good. JJ used to do an incredible job with this, and I think it’s rubbed off on you, @Chris. Astle is a great player when it comes to looking at footballers through history. I am pleased to have learned more about him from this.
  6. It makes me wish I could have made it. I’m pleased to see you taking your fan pictures, @Chris. Everyone looks very happy! So good to see!
  7. I am pleased for Stuart Maynard. He took a lot of criticism early on, and it was made worse with Luke Williams departing. It hurt to see Williams leave, but it hurt more to see Maynard take all the blame. I think he speaks sense. Some might appeal to his way of talking, but I think he shows a good level of understanding when processing the game in his mind. When you’re so quick to be interviewed, it might be difficult to recall everything, but he says mostly what we need to hear and he doesn’t mask it.
  8. Thank you, I am recovering. I won’t be playing football any time soon, but I should be able to attend the game on Sunday. I’m not sure about travelling to distant games yet; I’ll have to wait and see. I appreciate the kind messages!
  9. Let’s be realistic, the starting 11 played is unlikely to match Stuart Maynard’s selection for the season. Jacob Bedeau is probably the only defender who will make it to the team sheet. It’s doubtful that Adam Chicksen and Kellan Gordon would start over Jodi Jones or Aaron Nemane. Moreover, Nick Tsaroulla is expected to feature more than Chicksen. From a defensive standpoint, the selection seems weak. However, I’m not overly concerned. I do hope that Scott Robertson and Curtis Edwards demonstrated some synergy on the field. Relying on Sam Austin, Ryley Reynolds, and David McGoldrick to spearhead our attack does seem a bit harsh. While I’m pleased that Reynolds did, there’s a noticeable lack of quality around him. The changes made around the 60-minute mark seemed quite disjointed.
  10. It seems like the gossip factory is working overtime. Why wouldn’t Leeds have just bid for him from us? They’ve signed Kasper from us in the past, so it’s not as if anyone had to hurry the original deal. I’d imagine if the rumour were true, it would only irritate some of our fan base even more. I highly doubt it’s true.
  11. Assuming everyone is in agreement, I plan to post the next round on Wednesday, the 31st, at 6pm. It will be wonderful to bring this back!
  12. I’m certain it’s had a significant impact, so I’d urge supporters who are able to, to give it some thought. Additionally, promoting the purchase of items from the shop assists the gaffer and keeps the site running smoothly. The aspect of articles is a key factor in garnering support. I have no doubt that @Chris will be focusing on this.
  13. If you decide to change your display name [username], please take a moment to update this topic. It will help other members who might get confused about who’s who. Just mention your old name followed by > and then your new one. For example: User1 > User2 Changes: DeadlyMacca > NiftyNick BlackandWhitePie > BlackandWhiteArmy
  14. I’ve only seen photos, but both teletext and the old Notts scoreboard seem very outdated now. I’m not saying that’s a bad thing. It just shows how much progress has been made. It’s likely that the things we take for granted today, just like people did with those, will probably see significant advancements in the future.
  15. It’s frustrating how we gave Junior Morias such a small opportunity, especially considering we paid money and acted as if he would be the player to help us climb the table when we signed him. One thing I really dislike is that we paid a fee and then never gave him a chance, only to loan him out ahead of a season where we are short and he would likely get more playing time. This is very disappointing. It’s clear that he was signed for the hype but was never valued by the club’s personnel. I also don’t understand why we are loaning him out if we plan to bring in another player. Additionally, I sincerely hope we don’t put David McGoldrick up front. He’ll squander more opportunities than he will score by trying to do everything on his own.
  16. It’s nice to see photos of the old scoreboard still being remembered. It highlights how much progress has been made over time. I liken it to the nostalgia I feel when relatives tell me about teletext. It was handy for updates at a time when there were few ways to stay informed.
  17. York will be a good trip for fans. It’s a nice day out and the match should be more enjoyable. I’d like to see a stronger team playing for longer, but I think it will stay as two halves of 45 minutes each. I’m curious to know how the minor issues mentioned by Stuart Maynard are progressing. Ideally, the team will be nearing full readiness for selection. I’m aware that Matt Palmer still has some work ahead, but hopefully, he’ll be back for the Tranmere match.
  18. The Nest probably made a good profit during the Euros. It was always full, with demand exceeding its capacity of 1,000. The club would have understood the importance of the competition for success. So, it seems unlikely that we sold Macaulay Langstaff at a low price just to recover some money. Regarding the pitch, it wouldn’t be the first time Notts might have sold a player to fund or pay for changes to the ground. But surely, Notts would have wanted more for a player who had two successful seasons. I don’t think it’s worth worrying about now. What’s done is done and we can’t change it. The total fee might be more than what has been reported.
  19. I propose that the rules for guessing should allow for three guesses per day. However, after making the first guess, you should wait for three other members to make their guesses before you can proceed with your second and third guesses.
  20. It does annoy me when we see heritage and things you can be proud of about Great Britain stop in favour of cheaper options overseas. Certain things should be made with pride and under our own mint. I don’t like the news of this because it’s taken 1,000 years to stop something which we have always done to a high standard. Every day, I see a new novelty coin for sale in an advert encouraging people to get one for keepsake, proudly saying it’s made in Britain and by our royal mint. Now, our coins are likely not to be.
  21. Martin Allen, a manager known for his humour and charm, was someone I greatly admired. Yes, he used his charisma to distract from the results, but that only made us focus on more important aspects. Luke Williams is an excellent communicator. I enjoyed his press interviews and listening to his insights. He has a genuine, friendly approach that seems to bring out the best in players. These two are the only ones who have stood out as particularly good managers during my time so far. Please don’t bring up Kevin Nolan. He treated players poorly and had one good season thanks to two promising Forest youngsters. His loyalty to his drinking buddies caused us a lot of trouble. Also, listening to Ricardo Moniz was enjoyable - he spoke about football properly and came across well. However, our defence wasn’t great under him. I don’t care about seeing attacking football when the games are very tight, even when you score 3 goals! He’s a good coach, but not the best.
  22. As a club, I believe we’ve built him up a bit, but I have faith in our recruitment process. He’s had a few games in the Championship, a history of injuries, and spent a lot of time below the Football League. This is the kind of signing that you’re pleased to see become a valuable asset, that’s all I’m saying. I’m not particularly concerned about a player’s past, even though our club tends to hype up the fact that they’ve had a stint with bigger teams, as if the Championship label is supposed to signify something.
  23. Over-mining, or the overuse of any natural resource, is a problem. Sooner or later, these resources will deplete, and we’ll have to depend on something else. If the money earned from these resources is spent wisely, things can remain as they were. However, many places don’t manage their funds well. When crime escalates and the authorities become corrupt, it can ruin what is still a beautiful place.
  24. Whether it’s a pre-season friendly or not, @super_ram, your team has disappointed us. Could you help us make sense of this result? Did you field all young players? We need some explanation for this outcome. ????
  25. I’m considering reviving this, assuming there’s still interest and members are up for challenging the likes of Tone and Fozzy. I plan to conduct one round per week, unless no one can guess the answer, in which case it might extend beyond that. If that happens, I’ll quickly move on and post a new ‘guess who’. Here’s the updated table following Piethagoram’s round. Points Table: @Fan of Big Tone - 9 @Fozzy - 5 @Piethagoram - 2 @super_ram - 2 @KB1862 - 1 @liampie - 1 For those who are new, you’re welcome to join in when new rounds are posted. Existing members, please do participate. In each round, I’ll provide a description of someone previously associated with Notts. The clues will be vague, but you can ask questions for more information.
