Weekly Chat - Monday 14th to Sunday 20th July
Inauspicious start @Fan of Big Tone, but things could only get better from there and it seems they certainly have. Enjoy a precious few days taking in the views and all that fresh air.

Paterson post Stuttgart
Yeah, our needs seemed to be recognised by all. A GK and attacking, creative midfielder are top of the list. And another striker, I guess. The timings not ideal though, is it? Most of the free agent action has been done already. Gagliardi and co. will be dealing with ever-changing lists and a factor will be time - the longer we leave it the greater the negative impact on our promotion chances. We can be sure they will be bringing these players in ,when they bite the bullet and commit to a direction, and it's going to be fascinating which players are introduced to us in the coming days/weeks.

Weekly Chat - Monday 14th to Sunday 20th July
Hope you have a great break in Derbyshire @Fan of Big Tone, I wonder where you are in the county (I live there) Pissing down here further up north as well. Had to delay the return from our trip, taking my daughter to hospital in the early hours (she'll be fine) but it was sad to see the state of our NHS, everything seems tired. Still, service still good in that she was put on the right track at the time it was really needed. John Shuttleworth is what happened to Jilted John (remember him?) of "Gordon is a moron' fame. One thing I love about the radio series (all on Youtube) is all the references to Derbyshire - he's forever buggering off to Baslow, Hathersage, Snake Pass, Castleton etc and the Lady Bay reservoir of course. It's gentle humour anyone can enjoy, well worth a try.

Match Discussion: Stuttgarter Kickers v Notts County
To play away to these strong teams in Germany drawing one, lose by the odd goal in another, is fine. We should 'take it' and build on it. But this is the main bit I'm praying that the club share this assessment, otherwise it could be a long season

Welcome to you, @MrWillowTiger. Not on here long myself, hope you enjoy it as much as I have so far.

Weekly Chat - Monday 14th to Sunday 20th July
With the first line of this thread being about the reservoir level and the last line in it, a patio; I can't resist asking any longer... Anyone on here a fan of John Shuttleworth (the level of Lady Bay Reservoir and his patio featured on quite a few of his shows)? If not, and if anyone wants to check it out try Youtube - The Shuttleworths One Foot in the Gravy S1E5

Adjustable desks for standing and sitting are a godsend. The key in RSI is R for Repetitive, and positions are as bad as actions for that - our bodies are designed for movement. Hope you can sort out your issue Chris, and get back to normal.

After 6,496 bets, Bowman must've thought he'd get away with the 6,497th! I know it doesn't work like that, but how can you possibly bet so much before the FA do anything about it?

Weekly Chat - Monday 14th to Sunday 20th July
Yes Big Tone, more of a holiday from work. Scotland, including the Highlands, returning tomorrow. The day we came up shows what a crazy country this can be. It was 34 degrees in London right up to the East Midlands, but averaged 14 degrees in Edinburgh that day. A 6 hour car journey took you to another world. After that we had the bad weather in the Highlands and the heat in Edinburgh when we really needed that to be the other way around. Grrrrrr

Let's hope so @liampie, on both counts. The rules are probably quite strict. The closer the matches get to ones your'e playing in the worse the consequences I think. I follow the NBA, and this kind of thing spells curtains for a player. Jontay Porter got a lifetime playing ban. The FBI is involved with charges against Malik Beasley. The difference there is betting on individual stats which are easy to fix. Rule breaches in football don't approach criminality in the same way. Ivan Toney finally got a 8-match ban but was also cleared of any 'match fixing'. Let's hope Lewis's case turns out to be as innocent as possible. Aljofree, Ness and McDonald can look after things if necessary. We're well covered.

Hearts v Dunfermline
Yeah, looking at his record though it's a bit like Adam Chicksen's in that most of his scoring is crammed into 2 seasons. Also he's coming up to 31! it's easy to imagine him as the young looking 24 year-old he was with us. I'm just looking for consolations, cos now he's signed for Salford til he's 33, we won't be seeing him back at Notts again.

Weekly Chat - Monday 14th to Sunday 20th July
On holiday, so one of those days nursing a hangover, which when you're older you really can't be doing with ☹️ It took only 4 pints! What a lightweight. The muggy weather, and difficult sleeping make it worse. Still got a thick head and it's late into the afternoon. But I had a thick head yesterday, and will still have one tomorrow, next week, next year, so I shouldn't blame the drink.

Unfortunate situation for the club with Lewis Macari. All relate to before he joined the club. The club are supporting him. How long does it usually take for the process to conclude? What are the precedents and the consequences if the charges are upheld? BBC SportLewis Macari: Notts County defender charged with breachin...Notts County defender Lewis Macari is charged by the FA with breaching its betting rules over the course of almost three years.

Welcome TheAnticlough
Cheers Clifton, Yeah it does seem really friendly, and it'll be great to carry on in that vein. Had a branch of my family at Clifton, Farnborough Road and remember visiting so definitely good to be reminded of that! Let's enjoy the season, got a feeling it's going to have a better climax than the last one 😉

Hearts v Dunfermline
My first time there @liampie, and I learned on the morning of the match that he had left them this summer. I think Jorge Grant is highly rated by Notts fans and rightly so. Most would be happy if he'd come back to us to replace Crowley. He's certainly got a nose for goal. Not to be, so the wait goes on

Should Notts consider having a new Club Captain?
Agree. And choice of captain is a Head Coach thing, surely...part of team selection? Although they're bound to go over it collectively as well Platty has been up front recently on the kit and the MC podcast, is first team regular and looks like a top choice to me. Also, relieving the responsibility from Matty Palmer might allow him to focus on his game and rediscover a bit more adventure. And if some passes don't come off at least he won't have put the ball at risk as captain. So making the change might help out in many different ways.

Hearts v Dunfermline
Last season's average of 10,400 was a real positive for the club, not too long after all those years of it being stuck at around 5000. It's important to keep this going and have the number right up there, not only for revenue but to attract players and keep the feelgood vibe for the fanbase It fell by about 500 from the previous season, so if that trend continues we'll be below 10K again. That'd still be good. Let's see.

Hearts v Dunfermline
Just got out of Hearts v Dunfermline in the Scottish League Cup. First time at Tynecastle - I wasn't expecting such a big crowd and a whopping away following, looked far more than the declared 1,500, much bigger than what we usually see at Meadow Lane. The stadium seemed bigger, but the official capacity is just a dozen more than Meadow Lane. I was stunned to find out the attendance was only 12,940, when we regularly declare 10K+. Either they're undercounting, we're overcounting or it's some kind of optical illusion!

Weekly Chat - Monday 7th to Sunday 13th July
I'd usually steer clear of Gerard Butler films, but last month I took the family to see How to Train Your Dragon at the cinema. For me it's usually just about stuffing my face with nachos, but the film was really excellent. I'd recommend it to anyone, if it's still on.

Martin Paterson mic'd up.
Yes, he's an international and ex-prem / championship player, played and coached in USA, even had the gumption to go play in the Indian Super league. He's not Burchnall or Maynard. I'm not saying they were, but it won't be intimated by our squad of players and doesn't haven't to ingratiate himself. He's the boss. Everyone should be right behind him, his success will be our success. I'm already finding his passion and edge a breath of fresh air - it's bound to brush off on the players.

Whew! It's not MK !
Him going back to L1 does cushion the blow of the departure It makes you think he rejoined Notts confident that he'd be involved in a promotion to L1, we were tipped heavily after all. It became a slog for him at Notts, over-reliance on him by the end and still coming out on the losing side too often. The whole SM season, the Saunders situation, Alves covering must have had him scratching his head at times and wanting to taste something more professional before he hangs up his boots. Oh, and the extra money of course :)

Welcome TheAnticlough
I have a vivid Derby related memory from 45+ years ago...all the blood on the top of Alan Biley's fluorescent yellow head after Brian Kilcline head-butted him from behind. Were you there and can you remember that?

Welcome TheAnticlough
Cheers. Seems like a great community of Notts fans. Me? I started off in the early to mid-1970s. My family thought I was at friends, but I'd taken 2 buses and was stood on the kop :) (in the era before fans segregation). Started going away in 1978, so right in time for the Jimmy-WilKo era in the top flight. It's a family thing for me. We were all Notts fans, especially my grandfather, who used to watch even before he served in WW1. They took their eye of the ball though, as I started a Derby fan, but a quick intervention when I was a nipper put me back on the right track.😄
