  1. I have always been fascinated by the history and culture of Notts County, the oldest professional football club in the world. Founded in 1862, the club has witnessed and shaped the evolution of the beautiful game for over a century and a half. Notts County has a distinctive and rich history that makes me proud to be a fan. One of the aspects that makes Notts County unique is its involvement in some of the most memorable matches in football history. I will never forget the thrill of watching Notts County host Manchester City at Meadow Lane in the FA Cup fourth round in 2011. The match finished 1-1, with Notts County taking the lead through a stunning goal by Neal Bishop. The atmosphere was electric, and the fans were ecstatic to see their team hold their own against one of the richest clubs in the world. The replay at Etihad Stadium was also a memorable occasion, with Notts losing 5-0, they put up a brave fight. Another highlight of Notts County's history was the invitation to open up Juventus' new stadium in 2011. Juventus, one of the most successful clubs in Europe, chose Notts County as their opponents because of their historical connection. Juventus adopted their black and white striped shirts in 1903 after receiving a set from Notts County as a gift. The friendly match was a celebration of this bond, and Notts County did not disappoint. They drew 1-1 with Juventus, with Lee Hughes scoring a late equalizer that sent the travelling fans into raptures. It was an incredible honour to see Notts County play in such a prestigious venue and witness the mutual respect and friendship between the two clubs. Of course, Notts County's history is not all glory and glamour. The club has also faced many challenges and hardships over the years, such as relegations, financial troubles, and managerial changes. However, these downs have only made me more determined to support Notts County and to hope for better days ahead. I believe that Notts County has a resilient spirit and a loyal fan base that will help it overcome any obstacle. I believe that Notts County has a promising future with a dedicated new owner investing in the club to revive its history and reputation as one of the oldest and most prestigious clubs globally. Notts County is more than just a football club to me. It is a part of my identity, my heritage, and my passion. I am proud to be a part of its distinctive and rich history, and I look forward to being a part of its future.
  2. Well, it's time to address the trickier point - the final two games. With Notts having secured second place, I don't think the pressure is really on us. However, we have Luke Williams, who seems to have much higher standards when it comes to games that we could be using as practice for the playoffs. I don't know much about Maidstone United, but I believe we have struggled against them previously when Notts first played in the National League. As for the players, Aden Baldwin, Sam Austin, Macaulay Langstaff, and Jodi Jones are all players I feel deserve to start, and I hope Williams gives them time on the pitch. Baldwin needs to get more match minutes so that he's at his best for the final promotion run.
  3. I have a tremendous amount of respect for the PON boss Chris; I would call him a friend. Liam is also a great person who only wants the best for his friends and is by far one of the nicest people I have met. Clifton Magpie is a pal for sure; those two lads are brilliant! We formed a friendship on Pride of Nottingham. It's something I have tried to put more effort into as I don't really know anyone else, but I miss Granny Pie, who on occasions asked me about my life and how I was doing at university. I would say both GP and Super are people who express friendship without really knowing me as they should. I am trying to make amends for that now with Super. As I say, I am trying to be more community-focused and will at times send a message to a member's profile just to say hello.
  4. Mapperley, Edwalton, West Bridgford, Leeds and now Manchester. At least 1.4 miles, 4 miles, up to a maximum of 74 miles.
  5. This article provides an interesting insight into the 2022/2023 season for Notts. I found it informative. The author did well to highlight how the team has moved on from signing big-name players to signing unproven players, which some fans may not have been convinced by. However, the team's first run out showed some promising performances, and subsequent wins gave us hope for the season ahead. I can relate to the team's previous issues, such as failing to win against "bogey" clubs and struggling to win on away games. However, this season seems to be different, with the team winning against those clubs and performing well on away days. Despite a few setbacks, the team's success has exceeded pre-season expectations and given us a chance to win the league.
  6. Nemane’s goal was almost comical. It has to be the worst bicycle kick goal that I have ever seen go in. That being said, Notts usually scores good goals and this one was still beautifully created.
  7. He didn’t seem his usual cheerful self. I enjoy his interviews because he leaves everything open. While I understand the opinions expressed above mine, I don’t think there’s any need to be overly critical. Williams has always spoken like a fan and, while he may not worry about fixtures being changed, kick-off times or talk of promotion, he clearly cares about the club.
  8. I'm not sure if I have too much free time on my hands, but I recently relocated from a Sheffield-based publishing company to work for a content creation company in Manchester. My move will make it easier for me to attend games, as I previously had an apartment in Leeds when I was studying at university. During yesterday's game, I couldn't help but notice that there weren't enough chants for the players. I found myself reflecting on the discussion I initiated about reducing the pressure going into the playoffs. I've come up with three chants, but I'm not sure if they're great ideas or if they'll catch on. Nevertheless, I'm interested to see if they'll be sung, and I hope no one will steal credit for them. Ha ha. To the tune of "When the Saints Go Marching In": Oh Cadwyn Scott, he wears the black and white, Number 19, with pace and might, Scored some goals, he's quite a sight, Oh Cadwyn Scott, he's dynamite! From left to right, he'll run all night, Defenders shake with fright, He'll score a goal with all his might, Oh Cadwyn Scott, what a sight! Notts County's number 19, He's in his prime, a goal-scoring machine, With his skill and football mind, Oh Cadwyn Scott, you're one of a kind! To the tune of "La Bamba": Roberto Chicksen, he's our left-back star, Runs down the wing, he's faster than a car, With his left foot, he hits it hard, Roberto Chicksen, our superstar! He's got the skills, he's got the pace, He's always first to win the race, When he takes a free-kick, watch it soar, Roberto Chicksen, we want more! In the black and white, he's a sight to see, Defenders quake, when he's running free, He's got the moves, he's got the flair, Roberto Chicksen, we'll always be there! So come on County, give us a show, With Roberto Chicksen, we'll never say no, From the back to the front, he'll take us far, Roberto Chicksen, our superstar! To the tune of "Guantanamera": Luke Williams, he's the man in charge, Leading Notts County, oh so large, With his tactics, he'll take us far, Luke Williams, our shining star! He knows the game, he knows it well, With his team, he'll always excel, We'll sing his name, with pride we tell, Luke Williams, he'll lead us well! From the dugout, he'll guide our play, To victory, he'll show the way, With his passion, he'll light the flame, Luke Williams, he's why we came! So let's cheer on, with all our might, For Notts County, we'll fight and fight, With Luke Williams, we'll reach new heights, Notts County, we're black and white!
  9. I strongly believe that safety at sporting events should always be a top priority. The Hillsborough disaster is a tragic example of what can happen when safety measures are not taken seriously. The inquiry into the disaster found that overcrowding, poor stadium design, and inadequate policing were the main factors that led to the loss of so many lives. It is heartening to know that the Taylor Report was published in the aftermath of the disaster. The report made significant recommendations to improve stadium safety regulations. These included the removal of terraced stands, the introduction of all-seater stadiums, and the implementation of strict crowd management and safety protocols. I believe that these recommendations have played a crucial role in preventing similar tragedies from occurring in the future. While some fans may miss the standing areas, the introduction of all-seater stadiums has undoubtedly made sporting events much safer for everyone involved.
  10. The suspect of the leak has been arrested in the US. Jack Teixeira, a 21-year-old US Air National Guardsman, has been apprehended. He appears to have leaked the full documents after failing to generate attention in his Discord group, where he was supposed to release snippets of the information to a small group. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2023/apr/13/pentagon-leaked-documents-suspect-arrested
  11. Points aren't needed, we are strong enough to win games allowing key players to rest. Provided Luke Williams doesn't drop Macaulay Langstaff, I think anyone else, including Ruben Rodrigues is fair game.
  12. I liked Calvin Miller, I thought he did great at left back but he wasn't the same player elsewhere. When he didn't sign and ended up at Chesterfield, I thought he would be a big signing for them but he ended up being nothing more than average. It didn't look the same player when he played against us afterwards, I think he made the wrong call then but the decision doesn't seem to have caused any issues for him as this was a good move for him back earlier in the year.
  13. I understand where George Claydon is coming from. Everyone will have an opinion on football, and that is what makes it so captivating. Sometimes, two strikingly similar comments can both be right in their own way. However, I have to agree more with what has been outlined by the PON gaffer, @Chris. He's hit the nail on the head as far as I'm concerned. In my opinion, Notts used a high defence as a means to combat Wrexham's playing style. However, they had changed their own style going into the game, and those overhead balls towards Mullin looked dangerous early on. While Mullin is not the slowest striker, imagine if a quicker one was up top. It would have been lethal and much harder for the defence to cope. I have seen some fans question Jim O'Brien's presence in the starting line-up, yet I felt his experience gave Notts a calm head in midfield. He was one of the few players trying to instruct the team to calm down and pick out the right pass. Wrexham pressed in such a manner that even Matt Palmer struggled to be himself. I thought his passing was subpar, the worst I have ever seen from him. John Bostock did well to win balls back, but he often made the wrong decision about whom to pass to next. He also under-hit passes on a number of occasions, leading to breaks by Wrexham. The biggest issue is the three-man defence. The lack of support from the wing-backs was noticeable, and I don't recall seeing the defenders communicate in a way that suggested they were working together. While I do not believe Kyle Cameron fouled Paul Mullin enough for the penalty, he was in cloud-cuckoo-land at times. I feel he should have been the person to say that the defence needed to work more together. They were so narrow that loads of space were often seen behind, in front, and to the sides. How do you defend that without losing your head?
  14. It has been interesting to read the views expressed. I do not believe any action should be taken at this point, nor do I think it would benefit the game if the National League were to fine or suspend Ben Foster. The officials are at fault for not following the rules. I don't like speculating, but Ben Foster recently shared a video podcast discussing his penalty save technique. It seemed like a response to negative comments about him being off the line, which I hadn't heard anyone else mention. Quite ironic with how special the podcast is being worded by Fosters team. It is reassuring to hear them openly defend Cadywn Scott, as it was a good penalty. However, they did touch upon something, @DangerousSausage mentioned. While saying, it was outright predictable may not be entirely accurate, I do understand what was meant. You may wish to check out the podcast.
  15. I couldn't agree more with the sentiment that there should be more promotion and relegation places between the National League and League Two. The recent match that was described as 'the most important match in the history of non-league football' has really brought this issue to the forefront. Football is not just a sport, it's also a business, and having more promotion and relegation places would mean more interest and excitement for fans. It would also give more clubs the chance to climb the ladder and compete at a higher level, which is what the sport is all about. It's interesting to note that automatic promotion and relegation between the EFL and non-league football has only been around since the 1986/87 season, and there was only one promotion and relegation place until 2003. Before that, the Football League was effectively a closed shop, with only a complicated 're-election' system in place for clubs to gain entry. This system led to decades of stagnation and lack of transparency, with existing league clubs perceived to be excluding those from outside. It's clear that changes were needed, and the introduction of more promotion and relegation places has been a step in the right direction. I believe that more promotion and relegation places would be beneficial for the sport and its fans. It would give more clubs the chance to compete at a higher level and make the sport more exciting and interesting. It's time to move forward and embrace change, rather than sticking with outdated systems just because 'that's the way it's always been'.
  16. I appreciate Luke Williams' update on the absence of Aden Baldwin and Richard Brindley during the recent match against Wrexham. It was disappointing not to have them in the team, especially since they had played well in the previous match against Wealdstone. It's good to hear that the reason for their absence was not due to any serious injury and that they are likely to be back for the upcoming game against Woking. I always want to see the strongest possible team on the field, and it's encouraging to know that the defensive pairing will be available for selection again soon. It's clear that injuries can be a setback for any team, but the fact that the players are recovering and getting back to full fitness is reassuring. I'm looking forward to seeing how they perform in the upcoming fixture, and I'm hopeful that they will be able to contribute to a positive result for the team.
  17. I am absolutely thrilled to hear that Luke Williams and Macaulay Langstaff have scooped the Vanarama National League monthly awards for March. Williams has been a fantastic manager for Notts County, leading the team to victory time and time again. His tactical brilliance and ability to motivate the players have been key to our success. Langstaff, on the other hand, has been an absolute powerhouse on the pitch. His incredible skill and ability to score goals have made him a fan favourite. It’s no surprise that he has won awards for his performances; he truly deserves it. I am so proud of both Williams and Langstaff for their achievements. They have worked hard, and it’s great to see them being recognised for their efforts. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for Notts County with these two at the helm. What do you think about Williams and Langstaff winning these awards? Do you think they deserved it? How do you think this will impact Notts County’s performance in the upcoming game this weekend against Woking? https://www.nottscountyfc.co.uk/news/2023/april/williams-langstaff-monthly-awards-110423/
  18. You heard it here first, straight from The Skipper’s mouth: Notts County will win 5-0 against Woking! To be frank, I do think Notts will respond in a positive fashion. The times we were defeated this season, it's been away games where it took a little time to bounce back to winning ways. Every other time at home, it's been pretty straightforward. I think Woking are doing very well to sit third in the National League; I don't think anyone would have predicted that. And whilst the game is going to be a challenge, this time the pressure will be solely on the away team. There's zero need for points at this stage. Wrexham won't slip up; that's my personal belief. We gave them a good scare; we went toe to toe, but now it's about preparation for the playoffs and ensuring that chance of promotion this season isn't missed. Woking will want to secure third place; I don't want that position to be fulfilled by Chesterfield.
  19. The metaverse theory and time travel are two fascinating concepts that have captured the imagination of many. The metaverse theory proposes a virtual reality where users can interact with computer-generated environments and other users, while time travel explores moving through different points in time. Both concepts have been popularised in science fiction and have sparked many debates and discussions. It would be interesting to see how these two ideas could intersect and what implications that could have for our understanding of reality.
  20. Hello @Dry Nelson Ray, I’m not sure if any other Wrexham fans have ever joined us here. What made you decide to come on? It’s welcoming to see when fans of other clubs come on and offer a different insight. Don’t be put off from joining in; we’re a very friendly group of Notts fans.
  21. The concept of the multiverse has been a topic of discussion in scientific circles for several decades now. It is an idea that suggests the existence of multiple universes beyond our own, each with its unique physical laws and properties. While this theory has not yet been conclusively proven, it has gained traction in recent years as scientists continue to explore the mysteries of the cosmos. So, what is the multiverse theory, and why is it such a big deal? For many, the idea of a multiverse offers a compelling answer to some of life's biggest questions. Is there life beyond our planet? Is time travel possible? What happens after we die? The multiverse theory suggests that these questions may have answers in other universes, where the laws of physics may be vastly different from our own. However, there are also many who are sceptical of the multiverse theory. They argue that it is a highly speculative idea, with little evidence to support it. Others have suggested that the concept of a multiverse is unfalsifiable, meaning that it cannot be tested or proven through scientific inquiry. So, where do you stand on the multiverse theory? Do you believe that it could be the ultimate answer to life's biggest questions, or do you think that it is a flawed concept that should be approached with caution? What implications might the existence of multiple universes have for our understanding of the universe and our place within it? Let's discuss! https://www.livescience.com/multiverse
  22. Introduction: Welcome to our forum discussion on the recent leak of classified US documents. As reported by BBC News, dozens of documents, some marked "top secret," have been leaked and are circulating on the internet. These documents offer a detailed picture of the war in Ukraine, as well as information on China and allies. The leak has raised questions about the security of classified information and the implications of such leaks on global affairs. What are your thoughts on this leak? Do you believe it is a cause for concern? How do you think the leak will impact international relations? 23. Hello @DangerousSausage,

I just wanted to take a moment to commend you on your input on the PON site. Next season, I will strive to do the Prediction League. Yet, I wanted to take a moment to say that I enjoy reading your posts and feel that you're one of the standout members of this community. Keep sharing your sense of humour because it's great to see!

  24. Hi @super_ram, just checking in as I saw you were still up browsing the PON site. How are you keeping?

The Wrexham result was a bit disappointing; however, I do feel confident about the playoffs. Speaking of that, I hope Derby manages to claw their way back into League One playoff space. It must be a challenging season for the Rams and another frustrating one for the suffering supporters.

    1. super_ram

      super_ram

Thanks for asking  @TheSkipper.I'm bearing up well ,getting on with my life and getting used to being on my own ,except I'm not on my own thanks to so many PoN  wellwisher  adding to the support by my family and friends. Life goes on.

I also think Notts will be ok in, as it seems, the playoffs.

I have mixed feelings regards The Rams. If we do manage to get back in the playoffs and miraculously gain promotion it would mean another massive rebuild with transfer and other post administration restrictions still in place. Remaining in League One will also require another rebuild with restrictions, but at least we will have more than the three weeks we had last season.

All the best to you @TheSkipper ,as I said life goes on(one way or another}:super::sheep:

      TheSkipper

It’s the least I can do to ask and show that I am here. Seeing you on so late just made me want to reach out a little more. The Wrexham result was a flash in the pan; not many teams have managed to force those types of mistakes this season. I hope Derby secures a playoff spot. I read that you had a meeting about the sanctions that were placed on you. Has that happened yet? Do you feel the restrictions will be lifted? I’m sorry; I don’t remember how long those were imposed on you.

    3. super_ram

      super_ram

On another day Notts would have won v Wrexham and probably won the league quite comfortably. On another day Richard Keogh would clear,, Zamora wouldn't score and Derby could get promoted.Fine margins !!!

Rams are apparently having discussions with the EFL but nothing definite as yet.Another year of restrictions but hoping for some relaxation of terms

  25. Notts County's recent match against Wrexham was a nail-biting affair, with both teams fighting tooth and nail for the coveted National League title. However, many fans have been left wondering whether Notts' performance was impacted by nerves, as they failed to score the victory after leading 1-0 and ultimately lost the match. With promotion to the English Football League at stake, it's natural for players to feel the weight of expectations and pressure to perform on such a big occasion. But what can fans do to help keep their team calm and composed, and what strategies should the head coach, Luke Williams, employ to ensure his players remain focused on their ultimate goal? In this discussion, we'll explore the impact of nerves on Notts' recent performance against Wrexham, and what fans and the coaching staff can do to help alleviate this pressure. We'll also consider the wider implications of such nerves on the team's promotion hopes and strategies that can be employed to keep the players focused on the task at hand. Join us in sharing your thoughts and insights on this crucial topic as we analyse the role of mental preparation in Notts County's push for promotion. Also, check out the gaffer's discussion about leading into the playoffs and how you believe they should be approached, such as whether certain key players need resting.
