Notts County boss Harry Kewell has claimed that Kristian Dennis is "100 percent capable" of reaching double figures and most likely just needs to up his match fitness.

The Magpies forward has been drafted into the starting XI following injuries to Jon Stead and Kane Hemmings, but has found the going tough against Port Vale and Oldham Athletic.

β€œI do have sympathy with him,” Kewell told the Nottingham Post. β€œBut he is a fantastic player and he knows the role.

β€œHe’s come up against three centre-backs or two, but he knows what he’s got to do.

β€œHe’s probably just missing that little bit of match fitness. If he can get that, then fantastic. We’ve just got to keep going, keep giving him confidence and keep giving him chances.

β€œHe’s a great player and a great lad. He wants to score goals so let’s see if we can deliver that to him.

β€œHe is 100 percent capable of [reaching double figures], but I suppose we are all shy of a little bit of confidence.”

HK doesn't know how to play with him. Humping long balls up to a 5ft 10 striker is never going to work. Both Hemmings and Dennis need each other to play with each other. 4-2-3-1 is not the formation for either of these strikers.Β
