Notts County launch month-by-month shirt sponsorship package

Joe Jones

Notts County have launched a sponsorship package which allows firms to sponsor the team shirt on a month-by-month basis.

The club's association with Ladbrokes has now ended, and Magpies owner Alan Hardy is eager for the companies sponsoring the top to have a presence in Nottingham.

According to the Nottingham Post, law firm Eversheds and accountancy firm Baldwins have already signed up, while Hardy's Paragon will sponsor the shirts for the cup matches.

"It would have been easy for us to tout ourselves with a big national firm, but our ethos as a football club has always been about the community," Hardy said.

"We want them to have a presence in the city so people can relate to them and as a club we feel it's vitally important for us to engage with the local business sector.

"The response we have had so far has been fantastic because I think businesses realise the mass brand exposure they can generate from being associated with us.

"There are obvious other benefits too because those that do take up the opportunity will also enjoy unrivalled access to the football club."

A very interesting experiment, although I'm not sure it'll pay off financially.

A sponsor that appears on the replica shirts will receive far more exposure, and will be more closely associated with the club in the public's eye, than one that doesn't. It'll be seen as our "default" sponsor. A sponsor that appears on the shirts during, say, January but doesn't appear on any replica shirts will get a lot less exposure and will probably pay accordingly. From an aesthetic point of view I can't say the idea of alternating shirt sponsors fills me with joy, but with a couple of exceptions I can't say I'm that bothered what logo appears on the shirts.

It will be a gamble financially but at least the focus is on local businesses, lets face it we missed out a good thing with Ladbrookes and really this provide us a way to move forward - there won't be many companies willing to spend a large some to sponsor a shirt no matter what team it is.

This is a good idea to combat that.

Right sponsorship move as it's key to money coming in to the club to bring players and coaches and help the club develop and make be around for years to come. I love the local feel being given priority great move fantastic news well done to all concerned.
