i believe he made the odd indie scene appearance still, so this is extra side. a real character and funny person to read on twitter. he could draw heat without even speaking. he will be missed. :(

R.I.P the Iron Sheik, I hope Sgt Slaughter is paying respect by having a flag at half-mast for you.

Fabulous wrestler, a 80s icon. Rest in Peace, Sheik.

I used to listen to him regularly on YouTube. He used to feature a lot in interviews - much like Dutch Montell.

Nothing in wrestling beats watching the golden era of wrestling which he was very much a part of. I'm actually a little taken back by the news. I grew up liking Hulk Hogan, but other years I have learned more to respect people like the Iron Sheik because he told things like it is. Rest in Peace, Iron Sheik.

@Chris you're right he told it how it is. He could certainly work in interviews. He's a wrestler you had to dislike, due to him being a heel, but as you say you begin to take a liking to wrestlers like Sheik and what they did.

Rest in Peace, the Iron Sheik. The camel clutch looked a real finisher when he hooked wrestlers back, unlike some of the modern submission movies.

A true wrestler from the territory days of wrestling, where they wrestled in different promotions and moved around which helped them improve. A true legend of wrestling!

Rest in Peace, Iron Sheik.

One of the very best heels ever in wrestling, people talk about Ric Flair but the Iron Sheik could set an arena on fire without so much as lifting his arm. He will be missed! Rest in Peace...

Very saddening news, has the cause been announced or mentioned? I assume it's natural causes? Rest in Peace the great sheik.

It's been awhile since I heard the wrestlers name, so sad to think that had gone. Rest in Peace.

I have never been a big of wrestling, but I remember the mid to late 80s and remember the Iron Sheik. May he rest in peace.
