Next up tonight in the round of the last sixteen is:-

Portugal v Slovenia

Portugal are another one of the top teams that have flattered to deceive in Euro 24, winning two & losing to Georgia in the group matches. Portugal have to think of their future without Ronaldo, who has been quite tepid so far.

Slovenia won one match & lost two in their group games, & sneaked through to the knockout stages with a third place in their group.

I think Portugal will get through to face France in the quarters, but they will need to improve.

Portugal are a much better team without Ronaldo in their squad. Unfortunately, given his reputation and who he is he'll always remain a part of the squad for as long as he desires. Their last manager, if I'm right in thinking this, was sacked due to considering dropping Ronaldo.

Half Time

Portugal 0 Slovenia 0

Slovenia are allowing Portugal to have the ball, & try to catch Portugal on the break.

Portugal have hit the post in the last minute of the half, Ronaldo has had a free kick that just went over, but Portugal have been frustrated in the first half.

Sure Slovenia will continue with the same tactic in the 2nd half.

Extra time to be played. Slovenia have played superbly in defence.

Portugal have huffed and puffed, with the most possession, but haven't created very much because Slovenia have had a great game plan.

Austria v Turkey last night was quite possibly the best game of the tournament so far. Given how they have both played throughout the tournament I was expecting a lot from the match and it didn't disappoint. It was a highly energetic match that made for a great watch. Plenty of attacking football, both teams gave it their all and the referee helped the game by telling players to get on with it allowing for a flowing game.

Gutted to see Austria go out as they've been a breath of fresh air in this tournament and have been really great to watch with their well organised high pressing displays. Ralf Ragnick and Austria certainly gained a lot of respect in this tournament.

Tonight we have the first two matches of the Euro 24 quarter finals.

Spain vs Germany

(Stuttgart, 17:00)

Portugal vs France

(Hamburg, 20:00)

Spain & Germany have been the most impressive of all the quarter finalists and only one can go through.

Portugal & France have arrived at the quarter finals stages without being at their best. Can Ronaldo and Mbappe give us a show tonight?

Not a great half of football to be honest, stop start with two many fouls. Spain have had most of the possession as expected

Portugal have had a majority of the play. Defences are tight and no-one wants to give anything away.

Germany came back well after falling behind and to be honest I thought they deserved to go through. But they missed their chances and the sucker punch came at the end.

There's been a lot of talk about the alleged handball at 1-1. The German pundits have just dedicated the half time break of Portugal v France to talking about it and how hard done to they are. I can almost understand it when this comes from people who only watch major tournaments and don't understand the rules of the game, but from former professional footballers it's embarrassing.

Trouble is @DangerousSausage those sort of handballs have been given before so I can understand why the German team feel arrived.

One was given in Germany's last game @Robbie, and to be fair it is a grey area. But they can't rely on a dodgy penalty every match.

Agree, we just have to have consistency with the officials controlling VAR.
