Progress on linkage of both parts of Great Central Railway at Loughborough

Featured Replies

We took our grandchildren on a steam train from Pickering to Whitby it cost over £100 and they sat looking at their phones for the whole journey, ☹️ at least I enjoyed it.

Oh wow, I would have loved that! The only time I would have caught using my phone, would be to snap pictures of the scenery and memories @Fan of Big Tone! It's typical teens these days, they're too glued to technology.

I think it was Toton where @cheeky~k8Β planned for us to go have a family day, there was an old steam train in service their that did a short track, but it was closed by time we found it. Around 2pm, but I recall seeing many old abandoned trains and information. I have never been on a steam train to my recollection, my grandfather Ray loved them and one of my favourite films isΒ The Railway Children.

Back on subject, It's nice to see Loughborough preserving this type of thing and trying to keep it going.

Indeed, it was something I was really looking forward to having lived in the steam era, I tried to engage them by telling them my memories of steam trains but they were bored. In fact the whole day was a disaster because Whitby was absolutely packed with holiday makers so it wasn’t much fun.

i would love this too! i find the idea really relaxing. i have read about the afternoon tea steam trains which are costly but would be a once in a life time experience.

its a shame that they are not appreciated by some youngsters, but i suppose it can be hard competing against technology.
