Why the Hell couldn't  Notts find  Jim a position at the Club? His Experience would have been a tremendous help to the Magpie Academy plus on Top of That he also had Huge Respect from his Fellow Players.  And who knows 2-3 years down the Line he may even been ready to sit in the Big Chair at Meadow Lane. Now we Fans might Never Know. All the Very Best to you Jim, a True Leader of Men.

Totally agree, the club should have moved heaven and earth to find something that Jim would’ve been happy to do, he’s given his all for Notts it’s a shame to lose all that experience when he could be passing it on to future generations of Notts players.

Am in agreement with you both @Wheelbarrow repair man @Fan of Big Tone.

Jim knows the club inside and out including the Junior side.

His experience & knowledge of the club & players would have been invaluable.

Looks like all the coaching positions were filled & restrictions on squad size probably prevented him from keeping his footballing registration & a possibility of him still being picked for the team if absolutely necessary.

It does seem we've had some strange decisions from Notts during the last several weeks.

However, it's a great move for Jim and I wish him well. I'm sure we'll see more of Jim as a Club Head Coach in the future.

I’m almost certain Jim lives in Sheffield with his young son and he was coaching at United's youth academy in the evenings last season. Even if we had offered something he’d probably already had some talks about becoming a full-time coach there. It’s perfect for him and I’m sure he’ll do a great job!

I am pleased for Jim O’Brien. I always felt he would make a great coach, and now he’s working with Sheffield United’s youth setup as their head coach. It’s a big opportunity for him.

i am pleased for jim o brien, it must be hard after retiring and at least being a coach will see him help the next generations of potential football stars. the role was clearly something he would be good at, so i wish him well and hope one day our paths do cross again.

Great ovation for Jim by the County fans when he visited his old club on Saturday.

It leaves room for Notts to establish a friendship with Sheffield United, whereby we might be able to pick up some of their talent. I am not saying this would happen, but it's something that could be worthwhile. It was good to see Jim back at Meadow Lane!

It was great to see Jim and his son back at Meadow Lane. He'll always be welcomed here, and he gave us so much more than some fans realise. I felt pleased to see him being acknowledged more respectfully, as earlier last season there were a lot of disrespectful comments about him being past it. He proved himself with good performance over time, especially when the team struggled.

He's a real modern day legend! Someone who should be held with higher regards than Michael Doyle.

It was great to see Jim O'Brien back at Meadow Lane. I'm happy he's coaching young players at Sheffield United, but I hope he can come back here as a coach one day.

It was great to see Jim O’Brien back. Though I miss him as a player, he is starting to look more like a manager now. I know, it’s normal.

I hope we see him back in the future with his job at Sheffield United. It would be good to see our youngsters take on his team. They are probably leaps above our level, but it would be good to see.

Pleased to see Jim and his boy back. He got a good reception, and it was a nice surprise. I didn’t know anything about it. I don’t know if Notts had announced it before.
