One of the best players that every played for Notts.

He was a leader, he was influential, he was a role model he bossed our midfield, he scored goals. Every Notts side was built around him.

He was loyal. He left for pastures new, but he came back.

He played in all four divisions for Notts. He's an Icon, & a Notts County great.

I remember my eldest son when he was a little fella the Wife me and him had come down to the Lane for an open day, and my Son had his photo taken with the Don. He's still got that photo and I remember him telling his Grandad and uncle ( both Massive Magpie Fans) how his Mum had took a photo of him and Don Masson, even though he'd never seen Don play (he'd been retired a long time) he told them he was a Great Player and a very Nice Man.

Don Masson was one of my grandfather Ray's favourite players, even @GrannyPie admired him and I can remember how pleased she was to have him as a friend of Facebook. He's a very nice person, I have spoken to him numerous times but obviously his playing days are well before my time of watching Notts. It doesn't take away the brilliance of his magic, as many fans tell me stories which is awesome.

I have to admit, I made a mistake sharing this way too earlier than I intended. I don't know what happened, but at least it's done well. 😂

Don was known as “the king” and for good reasons he controlled the game for Notts, he was captain and took all the set pieces, a real leader of men, it’s a great privilege for me to say I watched him play, he was a real maestro.

Don Masson has no doubt been one of the club’s best purchases. His arrival at Meadow Lane began a very good era despite the start of his time. Without Masson, Notts simply didn’t click as much, and with him, we became a very capable side that could cause any top-flight team trouble on the day. He was vital throughout his time at Notts County. The Don is a legend of the game.

@liampie

Don nearly helped win the league title for QPR in 1975/76 season, just being pipped by Liverpool by 1 point

I would say in today's money a midfielder of his stature would be worth £50 million plus in today's inflated prices

this is based solely on inflation, still sounds like a bargain.

@liampie

That's massive difference. Just shows how much the value of money has deflated over time
