The Magpies get their pre-season campaign under way with a game against the non-league side as the build-up to the big kick-off gets under way

The only one to make it, now at Northampton

It looks like we made the right decision by not signing any of them, two of the players I looked at either had a trial whilst at a club or are unknown as to where they are. I'm happy with how the squad has turned out, I don't mind giving players a chance as who knows? I just think some of these, if not all might have just become squad fillers.

Notts has done best to avoid this.

I wonder if Notts do the same rigourous checks with trialists that they do with players they want to sign.

I always thought the player asked for a trial at his own expense. If this is true then it's a no loss situation for Notts.

Better to reject a trialist than get landed with a player they've signed but it doesn't work out. But they are stuck with that player or have to send him out on loan.

what happened to the centre back alex something, from arsenal. i think he was on loan at bromley. got it, alex kirk!

without a club supposedly, maybe he held out for a league club to long? he was the only trialist we did not sign that i thought looked decent.

Alex Kirk looked half decent. I thought he stood out, but the rest seemed rather average, to be honest. I wasn’t all that impressed with the lad from Derby. I don’t remember his name, but he’s not mentioned in the list.

I think the trialists are sometimes just the club trying to see if they can bring in someone who might do well but plays for lower league teams. I also think we might do it to throw other clubs off the scent about who else we’re after.
