Right my fellow PON Members I'm going to have to ask for some help on this one. There's been a New Cup tournament Invented brought about or such, that being the National League Cup, to be played between National League sides and Premier u21 sides. Much to the Chagrin of a few of the National League sides. This got me thinking, what about all those Trophies that used to be around but are No longer played for? Some that I name may still be played for but under another name, so with your help lets see how Many Missing Trophies we can come up with.

The Anglo/Italian Cup. Had to be number 1, as this Trophy sits in the Trophy Cabinet at Meadow Lane.

The Anglo/Scottish Cup. I'm not sure this was a Competition, it's just I seem to remember Derby being involved in it in the 1970's.

The Watney Cup. Another Trophy Competition I remember Derby being apart of in fact I believe they were the First ever Winners.

The Fairs Cup. This Trophy may have a different name now, but if memory serves this was the first European Trophy won by Don Revie Leeds side.

The Intertoto Cup. This European Trophy also may now have a Different name.

The Home Internationals Championship. Played for by the Home Countries of England Scotland Wales and Northern Ireland.

The County Cup. A trophy which always seemed to involve the Magpies and the Red Dogs across the Trent. This Trophy was played for long before I became a Notts Fan. I don't know if any other teams were involved or Not.

The Brian Clough Memorial Trophy. I know after Cloughie's Death Derby and Forest used to play for this Cup. I Don't Know if it Still Is?

Well there you have my fellow PON Members. Apologies if I've got any wrong or you know that the Trophies are still played for but under a New Name. I'd be Interested to know of any other Trophies that used to have place on the Footballing Calendar but are No Longer contested.

I can give you three Cup competitions in one that have become no more. The Full Members' Cup was a cup competition held in English football from 1985/92. It was also known under its sponsored names of the Simod Cup from 1987/89 and the Zenith Data Systems Cup from 1989/92. The advent of the PL basically killed it.

PS. Don't forget Mansfield was included in the County Cup.

I also remember the Football League Centenary Tournament in 1988 to celebrate the centenary of the football league.

The tournament was won by Brian Clough's Forest.

Over the years hasn't the League Cup, been called lots of different names due to the Fact that it's had Different Sponsors?

I think one was the Rumbelow's Cup ? Then the Littlewoods Trophy ? Plus others. No other names come to mind at the moment.

I'm not sure what trophies no longer exist, but I am aware that during the early 00s it's believed some were melted down and sold.

I have no idea why anyone would be so foolish to destroy parts of the club's history, even if we needed the money badly. I can't imagine they would have funded much. Not in terms of the costs involved with a football club.

AH made claims that more had gone missing when he came in, I don't know if that's true or not. I am aware of some shady things, but it's not for me to repeat them, and I wouldn't want the hassle involved.

@Chris why would someone do such a thing as that? Just imagine if an official in Brazil had melted down the Jules Rimet trophy that Brazil won outright for winning 3 World cups at the time.

I couldn't think of any more defunct Cup Competitions so I did some research and found,

The Football League War Cup.

Not to be compared to the Football League Cup.

Can you believe that they held a cup competition during the War? I knew that some football matches were played during that time.

I didn't realise that finals during the War were played at Wembley with 42000  in attendance in June 1940 & 60,000 at the end of May 1941.

This is remarkable. "In the nine months leading up to the final in 1941, 127 large-scale night-raids had taken place, with London, the home of the final, being a regular target. This threat did not stop 60,000 people turning up to watch the game". despite the threat of an air raid.

Yes, I have heard the stories about some of the cups and trophies being melted down for scrap. There was talk that some had been taken during the sale to the supporters’ group. I doubt we’ll ever know the truth, but it’s a sad part of the club’s history.

Unfortunately, during times of desperation people can do crazy things. I think it's likely to be true that some were melted down. This is something I have been told over the years, by fans who are quite involved with the club. It's a shocking thing to do, but I would imagine if they still existed it would be quite easy to locate them.

It should be a crime, and that the trophies belong to the club.

i dont see how they would go missing, unless something dodgy had been done to them. i wonder how many teams are missing trophies and how common it is for clubs that have struggled.

its not right at all. :(

It’s awful to think that some of our history has been discarded and used for scrap. Players worked hard to achieve those, and we might see them again.

Notts were beaten by Chesterfield in the final, how can you not remember that?😉

In terms of when Notts were in administration, there was a legal duty on the Administrator to sell ANY asset the club has. That includes historical memorabilia.

@Piethagoram

In answer to your questions. Regarding remembering Derby taking part in the Anglo/ Scottish Cup, I remember the Rams playing a Scottish and Derby Keeper Colin Boulton was fouled rather badly by a Scottish Forward ( don't remember his name or team). Colin got up and laid him out with one Punch. My Mum was so shocked, she just said OOH he's just Hit Him. And if memory serves the only thing which happened to Boulton was he got a Talking too by the Ref, Not Even A Yellow Card.

As to your second Question, Back in the 1970's I was a Young Innocent Lad who hadn't met his future Notts Supporting Wife and at the time I hadn't been seduced into following the Magpies😉
