This is the Up To Dated Version. The the Proper Teleprinter looked like an Old Type Writer which would print out Results as they came in, and the Presenter (usually David Coleman) Would stand next to with a Massive Microphone in his hand and Read out the Scores.

That brings back memories! When everyone was in their rightful place in accordance with the Natural Order of Things(TM).

Wow @Robbie, you must be old! :D

I miss the live results being announced on TV. These days, I check them on my phone, but I would prefer to watch them just for nostalgic reasons.

Also,  always loved how his voice rose and fell depending on who won. You could tell who had won and lost before he even got to the number. I used to imitate it as a kid.

Here's the original Grandstand theme music to go with the old teleprinter.

Notice the guy putting up the results manually

I can imagine it was quite exciting to see the results slowly reveal themselves one by one after the final whistle.

But honestly, I wouldn’t want to be the person typing in the scores. I can imagine that back then, it was quite a nightmare to update everything, especially in a live environment.

Imagine typing the wrong result and disappointing  all those fans who thought they’d won 9-1 only to find it was a mistake and they actually lost 0-1. :joker:

If I remember right they sometimes did give the wrong score and would type a correction.
