Game 16 - The Railwaymen (A)

Team: Crewe Alexandra

Date: 16/11/2024

Where: Gresty Road

What line-up should Stuart Maynard opt for? What will be the key areas for the Magpies to get a victory? What do you think the final score will be?

Another tough game coming up on Saturday. It's great news that Cedwyn has returned & scored his first goal of the season.

This will give Stuart more options for the match against Crewe. I hope that Dan Crowley & Scott Robertson are got to return too.

We didn't see Rob Cundy in the squad against Leicester. I wonder if he has a knock that stopped him being considered.

A big positive for Stuart was the way the Notts defence & defensive midfield played against Leicester, so again, it gives Stuart plenty of options.

This is another tough game, I’m hoping we have some players back and in contention especially with Jatta being away. Hopefully Didzy will be fit and Scott will be able to play some more minutes, the defence is looking strong, I think it’ll be a tight game with maybe one goal deciding the winner, hopefully we’ll score it.

Listened to Stuart's pre match presser today & learned that Dan Crowley brook a further knock & may be a doubt for the Crewe game.

Cedwyn Scott played against Leicester in midweek and may make the bench on Saturday.

There is a possibility that Jevani Brown might lead the line on Saturday so depending on fitness this would be my squad against Crewe.

Bass

Macari, Platt Bedeau

Tsaroulla, Palmer, Hinchy, Gordon

Martin, Abbott, Brown.

Subs,

Scott, Slocombe, McDonald, McGoldrick, Cisse, Austin, Reynolds

The squad all depends on the injuries. Stuart may be keeping things close to his chest.

For all we know Didzy may start the game just behind Brown, or Scott may lead the line with Brown supporting. We will have to see.

The key areas will be to stay strong in defence & midfield, & take any opportunities that present themselves up front.

I'll be happy with another draw against a very good side. A clean sheet would be marvellous.

Agree with @Robbie. Clean sheet needed. Take a point

Crewe are unbeaten in the league since September 28th. They drew 1-1 away to Walsall last week which is an impressive result. They play Port Vale after us so 3 really tough games. Notts are made of sterner stuff this season so it's 2 dogged sides going head to head. A point would be more than acceptable.

This is going to be a tough test. We've drawn three of our last five and so have Crewe, so I could imagine the honours being shared again today.

This is the Notts team to face Crewe.????

A little defensive minded if you ask me. Macari looks to be playing as a wingback. Scott or Brown leading the line with Austin supporting.

Glad to see Didzy on the bench.

Update.

Jacob Bedeau gets a yellow card for a bad foul so he will now be suspended for a game.

He should have let him past rather than playing 87 minutes on a yellow. Feels like an accident waiting to happen.

It's a loss for Notts today. Their first loss away this season.

Injuries have caught up with Notts at last. And Jatta missing too, he gives Notts such an outlet.

Notts down to six place, but just one point behind Crewe who are in 2nd place.

A disappointing day. I don't think we played badly, but we rarely looked like scoring. The injury list really hurt us today.

It's annoying to concede from our own corner. The penalty wasn't one - Bogle couldn't decide whether he was going to have a shot or try to dink it around Platt and ended up tripping himself up. Platt just stood his ground. It was quite clear it wasn't a foul even watching it first time, and the referee was in the perfect position. It gave us a real uphill struggle in a phase in which we were struggling to create chances anyway.

Crewe certainly weren't anything special, but they were hard working and well organised off the ball and took their chances when they came. Sometimes that's all you need.

When the cards are stacked against you, it’s always going to be an uphill struggle. Penalty was a joke decision whilst their first goal just proved the lack of pace in our side.
Missing Jones, Crowley, Didzy and  Jatta from the starting XI is just too much for any side to cope with, all four would probably walk into most teams in this division.

It’s all about picking up as many points as possible at the moment and hopefully stay in contention until we get everyone back.
