I miss my late mother's home made mince pies. The mince pies in the supermarkets don't come anywhere close to them.

If any of you have any tips, I'm all ears! I usually buy them at Morrison's for convenience.

I usually bring a pack home with me, but last year I made my own for the first time. My work colleague provided the filling, but I made the pastry myself and it was incredible, absolutely perfect. A complete fluke as I had no idea what I was doing. As if to tempt fate, I'll try again this year. So any tips as to good ready-made mince pie filling would be appreciated too!

Can I have yours?

Far too early to talk about mince pies, it’s still November for goodness sake!

Mrs. T makes ours along with sausage rolls the week before Christmas, she freezes some uncooked ones and cooks them as and when needed so they are fresh.

Always prefer the sloe gin flavoured ones nowadays, although last year I bought some from Fortnums, and although they were nice flavoured and a deep filled pie, I was a little disappointed as expected more.

Will try the M&S ones this year for Christmas, although I have already had some of the Tesco’s Finest ones and they were quite nice.
