Every game is important in this league. Each game is important because every team in this league is capable of beating any other team.

The challenge of Newport County on Saturday will be no different. They are a very dangerous side to anyone, who isn't 100% on their game.

Newport may have lost 8 games but they have won 6 including wins over Doncaster, Crewe, & Gillingham.

Newport only sit 7 points behind Notts in the table, so they cannot be underestimated.

Notts need to be at their very best. I'm hoping that we are going to see some of the injured players returning.

We know that Jatta will be back which will be a big boost. Didzy will be available, but we don't know the situation regarding Dan Crowley. Hopefully he'll be available soon.

Notts should revert back to their favourite 3-4-2-1 formation on Saturday. I think that formation suits Notts better than any other.

I'll post my squad for the game later on in the week, but I think that the defence & central midfield picks themselves. Unfortunately, Bedeau will be missing due to suspension.

The early kick-off is going to seem a bit weird, but I am sure the players won't give it a second thought. They will be wanting to put a strong performance in front of our fans, I do hope the attendance manages to retain above the 10k mark.

Though, I do feel that it might be impacted slightly due to the early kick-off and the cold weather we are having.

Newport County still hasn't really found their consistency, but is a good team. I would say defensively, this is the area where they struggle the most on the pitch and I do feel if we create enough chances on goal - their keeper will have a lot to do in order to stay in the game. If our performance is a bit sluggish, at least in spells, I would welcome us to focus on passing the ball around - with a minimum focus on passing it back.

We do need to come together after our recent defeat to show that we aren't losing ground on the automatic spaces; a good result would put us back in the mix quite nicely as the League Two table is quite wide open. If the result does go our way, we could be firmly in the top five especially if the other games results go our way. I do hope none of the upper end games are postponed, as Walsall have 2 games in hand. as does AFC Wimbledon and I know we currently sit 6th. So, one place might not be seen as important to others, but currently we are 6th, looking likely to fall to 8th or 9th. That's the wrong direction, so a win and moving up a place - with all the other fixtures keeps us with climbing distance without too much work to do to maintain our hopes for promotion.

This weekend's match is a must-win for us. If we don't secure a victory, we risk falling further behind at this crucial point in the season. A win would be a much-needed boost to our morale.

We need key players like David McGoldrick to be in top form. I would also like to see more from Kellan Gordon and Nick Tsaroulla, who are crucial in the wide areas of the pitch.

Newport might try to slow the game down and play their usual dirty tactics.

@TheSkipper Agree.

Teams always seem to play the same tactics against us at meadow lane. They always instigate a high press against us to try to steal the ball off us through sloppy passing due to their pressure.

We've cut that out quite aot but it still happens. Then they sit back & challenge us to break them down.

When we have Jatta in the side, we seem to be able to counter such tactics. Not so much though when Jatta is missing.

Hope Jatta is back and available for selection. Let's get back to ways of winning. COYP

Newport County might be beneath us, but so far this season, they are the type of team we have struggled to play against, especially those at the top half. I think they won't want us to play our pretty football, so it might be a bit of a slog to create momentum. It would be great if we manage to combat their defensive mindset and how they slow the game down. If we handle that, there's every chance, but I feel a draw is the most likely result for Notts.

As long as we put in the effort or secure a win, that's all that matters in the end. Newport County are a team we should be able to beat, despite their tendency to make matches challenging. Notts needs to focus on playing the ball forward and testing their defence and goalkeeper.

I agree, a good result would give us a boost going into this crucial and tough stage of the season. It’s important to build momentum with positive outcomes, especially at this point in the campaign.

it would be good if we could score a few goals and just take the pressure of ourselves as early into the game as possible, the players could then just focus on seeing it our and i think it would help us further progress with the performances.

the likeliness of the game being harder is a lot more likely, but i think if things click we could.

Jatta and McGoldrick both go straight in for me and Crowley too if he’s fit. It does slowly start to feel like we are becoming very reliant on those 3 players and that’s not a good thing.

I feel like Brown is at a bit of a crossroads now, I thought after Alfreton he’d kick on, but he’s still yet to score or assist in the league. Sam Austin also has the same issue. And I still feel like I’m yet to see the best of Gordon, and whilst Tsaroulla looks promising he’s still only provided one assist...

Defensively I feel we are a lot more solid, but is that now coming at a cost to our attacking play? We are really struggling in an attacking sense (outside of Jatta, McGoldrick and Crowley) our other attacking midfielders and wingbacks, whilst having had more game time recently, have struggled to have much of an impact for me. That first half against Crewe, in an attacking sense, was probably the worst I’ve seen all season. We need to step it up a bit now.

A game against Newport should suit us though, they are one of the poorer teams defensively in the league and one of the worst pressing sides (in terms of effectiveness). And we tend to very well against the lower mid-table sides too. Aaron Wildig has just been ruled out for the season for them and was probably one of their best players. We’ll likely see the tallest man in the world again as Kyle Hudlin (formerly of Solihull Moors) is now at Newport and he’ll provide a threat upfront.

Yesterday I was standing in snow, today I'm watching monsoon rain and the wind is howling. Winter in Ireland........

Anyway back on topic. Notts should win. Notts will win I reckon. Newport are no mugs though. They will press high, but I expect Notts will get through their press, create space and take the chances that creates.

Didzy has had a header from a corner & a shot from outside the penalty area, both just missed.

Plenty of possession for Notts. The usual problem of breaking a team down who are employing the same tactics as any other team that visits ML.

Notts 0 Newport 0. 24 mins.

Half Time.

We are missing Crowley & Jones who can open up defences with either an incisive passing or a pin point cross.

Stallard: "The pitch has played well... I wouldn't say either team has.Too many misplaced passes.Newport will be the happier of the two to go in at half-time at 0-0"
