No FA Cup Replays

I watched the Tamworth v Spurs match at lunchtime today.

It was a great match, & Tamworth played so well defensively & could easily have won it in injury time after 90 minutes.

The match ended 0-0 after 90 minutes. In the past Tamworth would have earned a well earned replay at the new Spurs stadium.

The new FA Cup format is no replays. Extra time is played instead if a match ends all square after 90 minutes.

I personally think it is wrong that FA Cup replays have been abolished. Extra time only suits the PL club, as we saw today when Spurs ran out 0:3 winners after extra time.

The talk on social media is that Tamworth were denied a much needed pay day, by not having a replay as they would have done in the past, & I agree with this notion.

What do PON members think about not having FA Cup replays? I just think that the FA Cup is not the competition it used to be. It's been devalued.

Totally agree @RobbieΒ what a fantastic performance Tamworth put up against Spurs they thoroughly deserved their draw at 90 minutes and could have won it in the dying seconds. Imagine the pay day they have had if they’d got a replay.

I also watched the Tamworth/Spurs game and found it hard to believe the commentator afterΒ  he mentioned the 96 place league standing difference between the two teams.I bet the Spurs playersΒ  weren't expecting Tamworth to be so good.I agree wholeheartedly with @RobbieΒ and @Fan of Big ToneΒ .There would be a lot of resistence to @Piethagoram's correct comment, from the moneygrabbing 'Elite' in the Premier League. We can't have a fixture pile up affecting the various Euro games due to FA Cup replays, can we?

Yes, it's a bit of a double whammy isn't it - the smaller club loses out on a replay, while the big club has much more strength in depth to swing extra time their way.
