Announcement: Apology, PON annual awards, and Site news - 2nd June

I am curious if members feel it's too late for us to host our annual awards? I make no excuses, I haven't been on the ball, and despite May being busy with several birthdays, my anniversary, and of course my family's week away at the east coast came at a time when I have been stretched for time. However, I should have taken some of my spare time to ensure this was done.

If members feel like there's still time, I will put every effort into ensuring it happens.

Yet, I do apologise as I love seeing how votes turn out and acknowledging the various parts of our season. Including members who contribute to the community. I understand that most, if not 98%, of those who read PON will, but I do deeply apologise because I set the highest standard, and again this season I have fallen short. So, I do apologise for this.

If the awards are too late, I thank Robbie for posting about the Man of the Match polls conducted by him for every league game. It highlights truly who deserves to be named the Pride of Nottingham's Play of the Season.

There's going to be some sudden changes to the site, but I will try to make this as smooth as possible. As I have been working on ensuring a major upgrade will go smoothly. I had thought of making PON offline for a few days, however, I don't want to discourage people from posting. So, my aim is to close off sections and disable others as I work to get the site to as it should be.

Ideally this wouldn't take so long, but with the changes at core level it does mean some resources and custom parts are unfortunately stuck in limbo.

The update will ensure a much better performance, along with a lot of modernisation, and I do believe after a period of time everyone will come to prefer it. The new editor, it's awesome. I love how flexible it is and it will make my editorial job a lot easier. Which means better focused content, and providing the best that PON can deliver.

I would like to thank everyone for their contributions during the 2024-25 season. My heartfelt thanks goes out to @DanΒ and Rich from Chud Photography. Thank you for being awesome, and supporting PON with your photos.

I'm pleased to say the site has been successfully updated.

However, it's not without some hiccups. I will be trying to get more parts functional, but with the changes being quite big, I need to fix custom parts, templates, and further general maintenance.

The home page and article system will remain down until later today, as will the store. These are two areas where I can't just patch things over from testing; I need to spend a significant amount of time fixing and sorting them out. In addition to this, the dashboard page is missing some widgets, and does have an issue with the left side bar not scrolling. I will be speaking to a third-party dev in regards to fixing that.

I have a fair amount of theme-related changes, however, I hope everyone likes the new design.

The light/dark version will return, as will the old theme everyone is used to.

Please bear with me as I fix things. I am working as hard as I can to make sure that the site is back to 100% functional, without any missing features or custom areas.

It’s looking really good @Chris im sure it’s been a lot of hard work but it’s definitely worth it well done. I’m sure you’re aware that the dashboard isn’t loading at all at the moment.

Keep up the good work, I love the new style.

I think it would have been the dev, Shahed, fixing it. It seems to work fine for me now.

Can you confirm?

Ah, that's because it's linked with the home and article system due to it being a page. Oops, that's a small oversight from me. I'll focus on the articles now, so we can fix that up.

There seems to be an issue where the custom CSS decides to go missing. I have taken a manual backup and have so far managed to get round the issue. I am not exactly sure what caused it, but please keep an eye out for things.

Lightweight theme added, please remember now the themes come with a toggle to quickly switch between light and dark mode.

The lightbulb = Light Mode, The Mood Crest = Dark Mode.

As for the third icon, that is just the system default.

As you will know, there are various resources that are custom to PON and some are third-party. I am pleased to say, our news ticker has returned. This is an early version with some known bugs, but the dev is working hard to release a future update to fix the issue.

Welcoming both new and returning visitors from Notts MAD. If you are unsure about something, please reach out.

There is no reason why you can't enjoy PON, and MAD (if it gets fixed) or any other parts of the Notts County community. We should all be working together to make our fan base the best that it can be, and I just want each of you to know that I hope you do stick with us.

There is still plenty to be done to finalise our recent upgrade, but I am very keen to complete our dashboard page from here.

Please do let me know your thoughts.

Thank you for getting in touch by email. I am really pleased with how the Pride of Nottingham is improving, and the revamp looks excellent. I am very impressed by the effort from everyone involved. It’s great to see features returning, and the news ticker is a helpful way to highlight important updates.

I like what I’ve seen so far from the upgrade. It’s much cleaner and easier on the eyes. The old PON looked great, but it had started to feel a bit dated. This new version looks modern. Some might not be keen on the lightweight theme, but it gives a nice simple look. Wondering how long it’ll take for the site to be fully back to 100%.

If you experienced PON going offline briefly a second ago, the issue is with Cloudflare and them reaching our server.

It only lasted for a few minutes, very intermittent, but a lot of people have been complaining lately about CF. This is the first time I have noticed it. It's nothing to worry about, it's partly due to infrastructure changes at their end.

I didn’t notice any downtime or issues, so I’m not sure if it affected me or not.

It’s not the end of the world if the site goes down, but it’s always good to know why and what’s happening. As @liampie said, at least you know what it is.

Some members might not have experienced it; it depends on their tunnelling and where each connection reaches their global network.

I just did a quick Google, and no end of people are complaining about much longer times, so we're lucky.

I've disabled every resource so that an issue can be identified. Things should return to normal by the time everyone is back in the morning; the only way to rule out what could be causing the issue is to eliminate conflicts. πŸ‘
