Must-See Films in 2025

Does anyone still visit their local cinema to watch films? Are there any recommendations for movies to look out for in 2025?

I haven’t been for a few years now. With so many streaming services, there comes a point when you start to wonder if heading out to watch something would be a better choice.

I haven't been to a cinema for several years when we visited the Showcase Cinema off Clifton Boulevard. I'm not even sure how much it would cost nowadays, prices are going up so fast.

There's a good collection of films on Amazon Prime, ITV X & U Tube. I did subscribe to Paramount for a while. There are lots of alternative ways to watch films on the TV, but I don't think a TV can replicate the Cinema screen.

As mentioned, I haven't been to a cinema for years. It's been a long time, that's for sure.

I never really liked the one in the city centre. Losing the old Odeon and cinemas on the outskirts left me feeling uninterested. People are much rowdier these days. While it can be fun to watch a film in a room full of strangers, it can also ruin the experience.

Good luck finding suggestions.

It depends on what kind of content you enjoy. I’m looking forward to 28 Years Later, but there’s also Jurassic World: Rebirth on the way.

If you don’t want to see a classic ruined, avoid the reboot of The Naked Gun. However, if you don’t mind someone taking on Leslie Nielsen’s role, it could be worth watching.

Happy Gilmore 2 and Shrek 5 are also films I’m keeping an eye on.

I do like action movies & there are two films, one has just been released, "Mission Impossible The Final Reckoning" & soon to be released "Jurassic World Rebirth", the seventh film in the Jurassic Park franchise. Both would be great viewing at the Cinema.

I haven't been to the cinema in at least a decade, or at least I don't remember going before that. There's something nostalgic about watching films on TV now, so I’m happy to wait for them to be shown there. I usually check an online TV guide and pick out films to watch at home. I can't be bothered with all that streaming. I had Netflix back in the day when it was the main service, but they're all overpriced now.

I go whenever Disney or DreamWorks bring out something my children want to see. They've asked me to take them to watch "How to Train Your Dragon," which they enjoy as an animation. This one is a live-action film, similar to how Disney has turned its classics into real-life versions.

I don’t go to the cinema otherwise. I prefer to wait until films are released and watch them on Netflix.

With a few exceptions, most new films don’t feel entertaining or interesting. A lot of them are generic, almost copies of past movies.

One exception is Novocaine. It’s a little predictable, but it’s fun and easy to follow. There are some genuinely funny moments that don’t feel forced and will make people laugh.

These kinds of films are rare now. It’s almost as bad as what TV puts out.

There are many wonderous films out at the moment, the new Mission Impossible the final reckoning with the evergreen Tom Cruise. The new Jurassic Park one if you like dinosaurs. How to train your dragon if you have one? Salt Path, a true story of how a life can be lost and recovered. If you are into horror/Thriller 28 years later is for you.

That's all from film 24/7 the MDPie franchise. 😎

I haven’t been to the cinema for a while, but I do watch films on streaming services when they’re released. I prefer watching them at home. The only time a cinema is worth it is when a great horror film comes out, though these are rare these days.

For @cheeky~k8's birthday, last Decemeber we went to watch Moana 2. We used to go quite often, what with having three children, but the pricing and the fact they are all teens means that it's a lot harder. Even when we could, getting all three to agree and be motivated is a real task. I asked Jake if he wanted to go watch "28 Years Later", but he just text back "I don't really know". 🀣 Yes, I text him from time to time as otherwise he acts like I am trying to wind him up. 🫣

The girls are on about going to watch "How to train your dragon" soon, I wouldn't mind going but I am also mindul that when I am at football with Jake, they just stay at home and never really do anything special.

I think it's important for them to bond.

Looking at what is currently showing, I am not all that bothered about anything else.
